Chapter 744: Chapter 744: Purchasing Materials
The shopkeeper brought out various magic treasures one by one.
"Lord Wang, these are suitable for the Foundation Establishment stage. Take a look."
Peter Brown carefully examined each one. After a while, he showed a look of disappointment. "Is that all?"
"These are all magic treasures that can be used at the first layer of the Foundation Establishment stage, and they generally sell well at our store."
With his inherited refining technology, the more Peter Brown looked, the more he felt these were not suitable for him. Sighing silently, he knew that even though these treasures could be used at the first layer of Foundation Establishment, what he needed were treasures that could enable him, while at the same level, to fight against Golden Core level practitioners. Therefore, from any perspective, these treasures were inappropriate.
It wasn’t appropriate for Peter Brown to say outright that he couldn’t find any use for these treasures, so he just gave a bitter smile, "My cultivation has only reached the Eleventh Layer of Qi Refining. I can’t use these yet. Shopkeeper, let’s forget about it. I’ll purchase some materials instead."
Although a bit disappointed, the shopkeeper quickly replied, "Lord Wang, we have plenty of materials here. What kind of materials would you like to purchase?"
"I’ve taken a liking to refining artifacts recently and I want to try to see if I can learn it. So, today, I’ll use all the cultivator coins from selling my elixirs to purchase materials. But remember to give me a discount."
"Over ten million!"
The shopkeeper secretly rejoiced. Hurriedly he said, "I’ll give you a 20% discount. This is the best discount we can offer."
Peter Brown handed the shopkeeper a jade slip on which he had inscribed the list of materials he needed.
The shopkeeper received it, looked over it for a while, then nodded slightly, "We have all these materials here, but the price for two of them might be a bit high."
"Just use all my coins, according to this shopping list."
The shopkeeper took the list and went to arrange the order. As Peter Brown sat there, sipping tea and thinking about the materials he had bought, he realized he’d purchased a lot. This included all the necessary materials for defense, attack, escape, flight, and formation. Each had at least two complete sets to account for potential problems during the refining process.
"Lord Wang, these are the materials you need. They’ve all been stored in this ring, which is a complimentary gift from our store."
Peter Brown gave a faint smile, "Thank you very much."
Upon leaving the shop, Peter didn’t disguise himself, but directly headed towards the Academy.
Meanwhile, in a mansion in the county town, Zariah Nelson was listening to his subordinate report about Peter Brown’s activities.
"Did you say he plans to learn how to refine artifacts and is using all of his cultivator coins from selling elixirs to purchase materials?"
"Yes, I bought off an attendant in the shop. He confirmed that all of Peter’s coins were used to purchase materials."
As Zariah listened, his expression became even more morose. He had not expected Peter to resolve the Spirit Grain crisis in this manner.
Zariah had indeed caused the destruction of Peter’s Spirit Field. Moreover, he had organized a strategy to prevent large quantities of Spirit Grain from being sold in the next two days, specifically to stop Peter from purchasing any.
What Zariah hadn’t expected was that Peter was also an alchemist who had publicly performed alchemy.
As soon as news spread that Peter, an alchemist, was being forced to perform alchemy on the street to pay his Spirit Grain dues, pressure mounted on the Academy. Zariah also felt the strain.
It was well-known that an alchemist was not a role that could be casually dismissed. Many places sought to recruit such alchemists. But their Academy had pushed an alchemist to such a state that if this news got out, no one could predict the outcome.
The greatest cause of Zariah’s distress was that he was the one who had pressured Peter. So, when the Shire authorities eventually interrogated him about the incident, he was uncertain about how he would manage.
At this moment, Kit Nelson walked in. As soon as he entered, he shouted, "Dad, that bastard was selling elixirs on the street! He’s mocking you! We have to deal with him."
Kit’s argument with Peter had escalated to such a level that he would become angry at the mere mention of Peter.
Scoffing, Zariah said, "This is a mess you created!"
"Dad, he’s just some country bumpkin! What could possibly happen to you if you deal with him? He’s selling elixirs on the streets, isn’t he? Well then, we can use this as a reason to strip him of his student status and demote him to the rank of Chore Disciple. Once he is a Chore Disciple, I will deal with him."
"Stupid!"
Zariah was at a loss for words. With no way to handle his son’s low intelligence, he said tersely, "Have you learned nothing? Do you think an alchemist can be easily handled? By performing alchemy in the street, he has declared to everyone that he is an alchemist. How many alchemists are there in the Academy?"
"How many alchemists?"
Kit looked taken aback. As far as he knew, there were no alchemists in the Academy, only apprentices in Alchemy.
"Our Academy originally had two alchemists, but the Shire authorities transferred both of them. Now we only have apprentices. Tell me, what reaction would the Academy have if an alchemist appeared?"
"Would they make him a core student?"
Zariah shook his head. "Now it is not about being a core student, it’s about becoming a professor!"
"What? He would become a professor at the Academy and teach students?"
Kit couldn’t maintain his composure.
"He has the ability to refine elixirs and even refines elixirs beneath the Golden Core level. Can you tell me which influential figure in the county would not flock to him? The county has long been in dire straits due to a shortage of elixirs. The county made multiple requests for the transfer of an alchemist from the Shire, but all were declined. Now they have their own alchemist. What do you think they would do?"
"Damn it, isn’t this ridiculous? He just entered the Academy, hasn’t attended a single class, but is becoming a professor? Where is the sense in this?"
Zariah looked at his son, feeling a twinge of frustration. From the looks of it, his son had incited a very troublesome situation. He never imagined Peter would advance so quickly.
However, Zariah really had no solution at this point.
An alchemist was very attractive to the elders in the county. If initially, they had agreed to help him deal with a new student, their attitude towards Peter would definitely change drastically now.
Where on earth did this boy learn his Alchemy Technique?
The more Zariah thought about it, the more his headache intensified. When he thought about Peter purchasing materials to learn artifact refining, his headache got worse. Was this kid some kind of freak? Could he do everything?
The situation had spiraled completely out of Zariah’s control.
