Chapter 625: Chapter 625: No Merit Left

With Peter Brown’s current cultivation status, moving at sword speed is very fast, so he doesn’t have to worry about it affecting his work in the township.

As for his marriage, his family would take care of things. Peter didn’t have to worry about something like this. Besides, he was already living together after a family meal. There was no need to complicate things.

Living their own lives, not caring about what others have to say - this was the mindset of his parents and of the women in his life.

Peter decided that they will all live inside the Heavenly Cave from here onwards. Outsiders wouldn’t know how they went about their daily lives.

Peter placed the large amount of cultivation resources he had obtained during this time inside a protected area in the Heavenly Cave. After refining a multitude of Elixirs for everyone, Peter flew on his sword, and soon arrived at the township.

When Peter got to the entrance of the Village Government building, he encountered Deputy Town Chief Matthew Carter, who was just coming out.

Upon seeing Peter, Matthew’s face changed and he forced a smile, shaking Peter’s hand and asking, "You’re back?"

The question was rather cold. His enthusiasm seemed clearly forced.

Peter knew this chap was not happy with him taking a higher position after his arrival. Therefore, Peter didn’t show much enthusiasm; he just smiled faintly and replied, "Yes, I’m back."

After that, Matthew strode off.

Watching Matthew walk away, Peter discerned a smug look on Matthew’s face.

Not giving it much thought, Peter headed into the Village Manor.

Today, the sun was high in the sky and the weather was hot. Following the example of others, Peter wore a straw hat.

Just as he sat down after opening the door and was about to go inside the village to have a look, Lucy from the Party and government affairs office walked in.

"It’s Lucy!"

Peter had positive feelings towards Lucy. She was solid in her work.

"Mayor Brown, you’re back?"

"Yes, I just arrived. I was about to go sit in the office and see if there was anything that needed to be done."

Lucy took a glance at the door and whispered, "Mayor Brown, while you were gone, some things happened. The water diversion achievement of Tilted Sunset Village was reported to The Higher-Ups, and all credit was given to Matthew Carter. There is also a document from the village stating that Matthew will be the Resident Village Leader of Tilted Sunset Village and neighbouring mountain villages. You are no longer in charge over there."

Peter was indeed a little surprised, "When did this happen?"

"It was decided in a meeting yesterday, didn’t you know?"

Peter, who didn’t want to be the center of attention, wasn’t too bothered by this. He simply smiled and said, "It doesn’t matter who’s in charge, as long as the work is done well."

Lucy sighed, "I’ve heard rumors about this. Apparently, the report originally mentioned your achievement. But a leader in the city said something, and now Matthew is credited as the initiator of the siphon water diversion project."

As Peter listened to this, his face started to darken. He had heard of people stealing credit before, but he didn’t expect his accomplishment to be snatched away too.

Although Peter wasn’t bothered about the credit, the blatant stealing of his achievement did upset him.

"Mayor Brown, I heard that someone’s backing Matthew."

After saying this, Lucy just shook her head.

Peter sat there deep in thought, feeling that someone was indeed trying to steal his credit.
