Chapter 518: Chapter 517: Picking Up a Bargain
Upon entering the marketplace, Peter Brown heard a few people sighing.
"Alas, I thought doing business here would make me rich. I didn’t expect that after finally pulling strings to get into this market, the Earthfire would be stolen. Who will come here in the future?"
"That’s right, without the Earthfire, there’s no meaning to being here. The place will never be lively again. Just look at the situation today- business is hard to do!"
"I just brought in so much inventory, what am I going to do now!"
...
Listening to everyone’s discussion, Peter then realized the impact of Earthfire’s disappearance had caused a huge stir in the market.
Peter made his way into a store that specialized in selling Alchemy Furnaces.
As soon as he entered, he was greeted by the sight of bulky rows of furnaces.
"Dear customer, what kind of Alchemy Furnace are you looking for?" an attendant asked.
Peter glanced at the young attendant and said, "I’ll have a look first."
Being an accomplished alchemist, Peter knew how to select a decent furnace. He channelled his True Qi and slapped a furnace, listening attentively for the emitted sound.
With the increase in aspiring alchemists, there was an increase in subpar furnaces as well. A careless buyer might end up spending a lot of money on a mediocre furnace.
After testing a few, Peter got up and walked out of the store.
"Customer, are you not satisfied?"
"It’s not that it’s bad, it just doesn’t meet my standards."
Peter knew that the furnaces sold here were only suitable for ordinary alchemists. Using True Qi for alchemy wasn’t too bad. However, he was looking for a furnace that could use True Fire for refining.
After wandering in the market without finding a satisfactory furnace, Peter decided to leave and approach the collapsed area to see what had happened.
After walking for a while, he noticed a crowd huddled around a particular area. The crowd had gathered around items that had been dug out from the collapsed area.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, these are our items. They were originally set up near the Earthfire. Now it’s collapsed and these items serve no purpose. If anyone is interested, please feel free to purchase. They are dirt cheap."
After making some inquiries, Peter finally understood the situation. It turns out that the Earthfire was not only used by the City Lord’s mansion but also sourced to some families, who had set up alchemy and artifact-refining facilities. Now everything had collapsed and been buried. To recoup some of the losses, knowing that they would lose the Earthfire, people dug out and disposed of the useless rubble cheaply.
Hearing this, Peter’s interest was piqued, and he walked over.
Upon inspection, Peter saw some useful items, especially some furnaces that turned out to be suitable for Earthfire use.
Seeing this, he picked up an old-looking furnace and gave it a tap. Immediately, a joy spread through his heart. This furnace should be the one he needed.
"Sir, would you like to buy this furnace?" A middle-aged man turned to Peter.
"How much for this old furnace?"
"We paid a hefty sum for this furnace. If it were new, it would cost One Hundred Thousand Sea Currency. But since it’s old now, you can take it for 80,000 dollars."
Peter instantly put it down without another word, pretending to be unhappy, "You’re really asking for 80,000 for such an old thing, you better keep it."
Seeing Peter’s attitude, the middle-aged man panicked, realizing that he had quoted too high. The City Lord had not instructed them to sell for a high price, but as long as they sold, it would help.
Realizing this, the middle-aged man hurriedly said, "How much are you willing to pay?"
"One thousand Sea Coins." Peter quoted a price.
"Come on, your price definitely won’t do. If you really want it, give a fair price."
Just then, a middle-aged man from a nearby stall called out to Peter, "Sir, my alchemy furnaces are cheaper. You can come and have a look."
Peter walked over to his stall.
Upon inspection, Peter saw the stall was filled with all kinds of items, which definitely caught his attention.
The middle-aged man whispered, "Whatever you like, I will sell it cheaply to you. Don’t worry, all are non-living matters."
Peter immediately understood. Here, they must have unearthed bones from the dead that contained items, considering waste as a resource to dispose of the items.
Upon realizing this, Peter started rummaging through the heap of items.
Suddenly, Peter spotted an ancient-looking alchemy furnace amongst the pile. However, this furnace was only about the size of a fist and didn’t look like an alchemy furnace at all.
Picking it up, Peter felt his Golden Light fluctuate, seemingly ready to enter the alchemy furnace.
Controlling the entry of the Golden Light, Peter realized this must be a valuable item and holding onto the alchemy furnace he asked, "What is this toy?"
The middle-aged man took a glance and laughed, "Who knows? It must be something someone made for fun. If you like it, you can take it for a hundred Sea Coins."
"Fine, I’ll take it to play too."
Hastily, Peter took out a hundred Sea Coins and handed it over.
As soon as the middle-aged man received the Sea Coins, he smiled and said, "Whatever you want, feel free to look around."
After a while, Peter’s eyes lit up when he found a black plaque similar to one he had previously acquired, except this one had the character "Four" engraved on it.
What could it be?
Seeing this, Peter became curious.
When he picked up the plaque, the middle-aged man caught sight of it and said, "This item is also a hundred Sea Coins."
Peter handed him another hundred Sea Coins.
After a while, Peter bought some more materials from him. After spending One Hundred Thousand Sea Currency, Peter was in a pretty good mood. He believed that he had stumbled upon a large windfall today. Both the plaque and the alchemy furnace were very valuable items.
Peter didn’t know who these items had belonged to after their death. He had a feeling that after purchasing these items today, they might bring him some trouble in the next step.
Of course, Peter was not afraid of trouble. When the time comes, he could always walk away.
After these purchases, Peter went back to the original stall and bought some more materials before leaving the place.
Walking down the street, Peter was a little excited at the thought of checking out what kind of alchemy furnace he had bought. He had a feeling that the furnace was not just a toy.
