Chapter 298: Chapter 297: Waiting for Thousands of Years
Stones were moving rapidly, causing Olivia Turner’s face to be consumed by fear; she had never seen such a phenomenon before.
When Peter Brown saw this, he correctly deduced that their family was oblivious to the situation.
Originally, Peter suspected that the Smith Clan may have been involved in this setup, but now it seemed obvious that they were completely ignorant of it.
"Don’t be scared, there’s nothing to worry about."
At this point, Peter’s gaze fell on a spot emitting a dark energy and he commanded, "Come out!"
Upon Peter’s command, a soft sigh was heard followed by the appearance of a figure shrouded in dark energy.
If figures could be considered human, then this was merely a soul. Nonetheless, this soul was quite large, and its features could still be distinctly made out.
This wasn’t an ordinary soul. This soul must have been immensely powerful when it had a body.
Already, Peter was taking this soul quite seriously.
"Peter!"
Olivia moved closer to Peter.
After all, she was just a small town girl who had never left the village. Despite being at the Qi Refining First Layer, many things were still unknown to her. The sudden movement of the stones left her struck with fear, making her feel that the only safe option was to stick with her man.
As far as Olivia was concerned, Peter trusted her. It was clear that she had no connection to these strange happenings. He pulled her to his side, reassuring her, "There’s nothing to worry about. Just stay close to me."
Of course, Peter was also audacious. Even if Olivia wanted to harm him in some way, he wouldn’t fear her. After all, his cultivation was at a significant level, and he had the protective talisman.
Upon glancing at Olivia, Peter promptly conjured a protective talisman safeguarding her from any harm.
"Hehe, after so many years, a male cultivator finally arrives!"
The figure inside the black energy was still introspecting.
"Who are you?" Peter demanded.
"It’s been so long since I’ve been able to talk. On this fine day, I am feeling very patient. My spirits are high, so I shall converse with you."
Already, Peter deduced that the opponent did not possess a real body but was only a soul. Even while talking, an energy fluctuation could be felt from the soul.
It was still unclear what transpired during his lifetime that caused him to lose his body and get trapped here.
"Seems like you are planning a possession," Peter noted.
"Ah, you know that, hehe, well done. I fight with others, lost my body and was trapped in this damn place {}. Thought possession would be easy but didn’t think people here could barely reach Qi Refining Third Level. Setting up the formation to attract people was very difficult. The Smith Clan is too stupid. It took me so much effort, and they couldn’t get a cultivator above Qi Refining Third Level for thousands of years."
Speaking of this, the self-proclaimed patriarch couldn’t help but sigh heavily.
"So now that you’ve finally got me, are you pleased?"
"Hehe, of course. Now you’re trapped inside my formation. After I possess you, I’ll return to my original form. Hehe, and this pretty girl who’s been here multiple times. I have long been itching for her, and I’ll make her my Furnace Cauldron."
Clearly, the patriarch had become a bit fanatic after years without conversation.
Olivia was scared and hesitated, "Are you who our Smith Clan has been guarding?"
"Hehe, pretty girl, the Smith Clan is really stupid. I merely showed off a little bit of my ability, passed on a few Cultivation Techniques and they began to honor me as their ancestor. What’s even more regrettable is that the bloodline of the Smith Clan clashes with mine. Otherwise, I’d have passed on higher Cultivation Techniques to you, and maybe I would’ve already succeeded in possessing someone," growled the patriarch. Emotions were flaring up again, "Damn the old man for putting people whose blood clashes with mine here. There is no one suitable for me to possess!"
Peter stood there and listened to the patriarch, but he was not particularly interested in his story and instead quietly observed his condition.
After watching for a while, Peter laughed and said, "Maybe things aren’t as you’ve made them out to be, come over here if you have the guts!"
"You!"
The patriarch’s voice fell silent.
After a brief silence, the patriarch laughed loudly and said, "Not bad, impressive! It’s interesting, taking over your body would be a fine choice. You’re clever, young man. Although I was trapped here and unable to move, the Smith Clan people were the guards. Unfortunately, over time, the jailers have become the guardians, hahaha."
What on earth is going on!
Peter was rendered speechless. This ghost was not a nobody. He even managed to deceive the jailers into thinking they were guardians!
Peter even had to laugh a bit, this old ghost was not an ordinary man but a schemer.
Looking at the patriarch again, Peter knew that his current cultivation level was not enough to command him. The only option was to get rid of him because there would be development happening here soon, and at that point, this old ghost might achieve success in possession.
Under no circumstance would Peter allow that to happen.
No matter where the old ghost came from, in Peter’s heart, the death penalty had been set.
"Attack!" Peter didn’t want to talk nonsense anymore. A Fire talisman appeared in his hand. Peter attacked the ball of black energy.
Bang!
After the sound of the explosion, the flames immediately ignited.
"Ah!"
The ghosts in that dark energy were totally unprepared for Peter Brown to strike as soon as he said so. The flames immediately engulfed and set them on fire, with sharp screams echoing out.
"What are you doing? I have plenty of benefits for you!"
The patriarch was now enveloped in dissipating dark energy and roared in fury.
"No matter how many benefits you have, I’m not lucky enough to enjoy them, so save them to deceive others in hell!"
With that, Peter Brown threw out some more fire talismans.
"You, you won’t die a good death!"
The patriarch was truly anxious now. He had never imagined he would encounter someone who wouldn’t play by the rules. According to his original thoughts, even if Peter Brown knew he was being deceived, he wouldn’t pose too much of a threat. However, he now realized this wasn’t the case. This young man was vicious enough to destroy him.
"No matter how powerful you are, so many years have passed, there’s no spiritual energy here that you can draw on. Your cultivation can only regress, why should I be afraid of you?"
While talking, Peter Brown threw out another offensive explosive talisman, again blasting the dark energy into pieces.
At this point, Peter Brown was even more satisfied with his decision. This old ghost was extremely formidable, he had already used quite a few talismans just to dissipate the dark energy. If he let the ghost escape, not just him, but even the experts in the Cultivation World would probably find him hard to deal with.
He must destroy him!
As the dark energy dispersed, Peter Brown could see the state of the ghost. It was nothing more than an old man, clearly on the brink of soul dispersal.
"You, how do you have such means?" The old ghost became desperate.
"It seems you’ve done something over these thousands of years. You’ve gotten the people of the Smith Clan to help you scatter some rubble around, creating a Chaotic Stone Formation. Are you hoping to squeeze us closer to you through this formation, then possess our bodies?"
"You, how did you know?"
The old ghost became even more desperate at this point. He never anticipated that he would be dealing with someone who understands formations and has the ability to attack him.
When Peter Brown first came, the old ghost had carefully observed him and thought Peter was simply at the Qi Refining Fourth Level. He believed he could deal with a cultivator of this level which is why he dared to appear so arrogantly. However, he had never imagined that there would be someone as abnormal as Peter Brown on Earth.
"Formation Start!"
The old ghost was desperate, he roared and attempted to activate the Chaotic Stone Formation.
However, no matter how he tried, these pieces of rubble had come to a halt.
Ah!
The old ghost was stunned. His greatest reliance had suddenly become useless. In a hurry, he shouted, "I am willing to serve you as my master, please spare me."
"I wouldn’t dare to accept you." Peter Brown snorted.
"You, I’m going to kill you!"
The old ghost’s aura suddenly soared and hurled himself at Peter Brown.
"It’s useless. I saw that this was a Chaotic Stone Formation before I came in. To be honest, your knowledge of formations is too poor. I’ve arranged a Dragon Trap Formation. Even a more powerful cultivator would be trapped in it. I overestimated you, thinking you were some important figure."
"Formation Start!"
This time, Peter Brown injected a stream of True Qi into the formation disk at the center.
As Peter Brown’s True Qi entered, the rubble began moving towards the old ghost.
The Dragon Trap Formation quickly trapped the old ghost inside. Energy began to flow into the rubble from all around. Large amounts of rubble began falling towards the old ghost.
The booming sound echoed throughout the cave.
Peter Brown occasionally fired a flame.
The old ghost had already consumed a lot of energy over the long course of time, and his soul was almost dissipated. Now, under Peter Brown’s attack, the dark energy that surrounded him was completely dispersed. Quickly, his soul also began to fade away.
"Stop, stop it, I surrender!"
The old ghost had never expected Peter Brown to be so fierce, he shouted out loudly.
Peter snorted, "What use are you to me? You’re of no use to me." After saying this, he threw out another fire talisman.
With the release of this fire talisman, the old ghost was completely obliterated while cursing Peter.
As the old ghost was exterminated by Peter Brown, the formation also came to a halt. When Peter Brown stretched out his hand, the formation disk was taken by him.
With the death of the old ghost, the cold and gloomy atmosphere in the cave finally dispersed.
Olivia Turner looked timidly at Peter Brown: "Peter, I really didn’t know about this. Our family has only known to guard this place for generations. I didn’t deceive you."
Seeing Olivia’s helpless expression, Peter Brown smiled and said, "I understand. You’ve been deceived too."
