Chapter 197: Look Down Upon
Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Look Down Upon
Today, Kingston University of International Relations is full of all types of vehicles parked outside the gate for new student registration. Every new student arrives with a joyful heart.
Peter Brown parked the car in a parking lot, carried some items, and began to walk towards the campus with his little sister, Kate Brown.
"We can buy anything you’re going to need here, money can buy everything these days."
On the way, Peter was telling Kate what to do.
"Bro, I know, don’t worry."
After entering the university, Peter helped Kate with all the paperwork and watched her settle in her dorm room with her new bedding, and then sat down and said, "Alright, everything is almost ready. After we eat, I’ll help you buy a few sets of clothes. You’re in college now, you can’t wear old clothes."
"Old clothes are comfortable."
Rachel Williams, Peter’s sister, is really happy now. She initially thought that even if she got into college, she might not be able to afford it, but her brother, who just got out of prison, was so incredible that the family had totally changed their lifestyle in a short period of time.
Of the four beds in the room, Rachel took one, and the other three people have not yet arrived.
At this time, Peter’s cell phone rang. After hesitating for a moment, he answered, "Maurren Smith, what’s up?" The call was from Maurren.
"Is there a reason I can’t call you if there’s nothing going on?"
"Of course, you can. So, are you going to invite me to dinner?" Peter joked with a smile.
"I can’t even invite you if I wanted to, you’re in the village, and I’m in Kingston. How am I supposed to invite you?" Maurren laughed as well.
Peter thought for a moment, realizing that his sister in Kingston could use someone to look after her, so he said, "Coincidentally, I’m in Kingston."
"What? Are you lying?"
"My sister started her registration at Kingston University of International Relations today and I brought her here for school."
Maurren was thrilled to hear this, "That’s great! I’m nearby, I’ll come over now and treat you to dinner, just wait for me."
After that, Maurren hung up the phone.
Rachel looked at her brother, "I heard it, was it a girl?"
"Yup, an acquaintance from Kingston. I figured it’d be good to ask her to look out for you while you’re here at school."
Rachel was surprised, "Bro, you have girlfriends all over the world!"
Peter laughed, "You’re right, I even have one in the Eastern Kingdom."
"Unbelievable!" Rachel exclaimed.
At this moment, three families walked in almost at the same time.
"Kate, is this your dormitory? It’s not great. The school really didn’t bother to install air conditioners."
"Mom, the conditions here are great."
"How are they great? I’m going to buy a house in this area, you can live outside and have a nanny cook for you."
"Chuck, our children are actually attending the same school, they’re even in the same class, how rare."
Another middle-aged woman entered the room, dressed in a fashionable outfit and wearing an expensive-looking pair of glasses.
"Margot Davis, since our children are in Kingston now, I don’t plan on coming back often, so please look after them."
"Don’t mention it, Kate will be well cared for."
Both middle-aged women had an aura of superiority about them, and they conversed with each other upon entering, seemingly oblivious to the presence of Peter and his sister.
However, the two girls nodded towards Rachel, and one of them asked, "Do you live here too?"
Rachel replied, "My name is Rachel Williams, and I come from the Sunshine Province, Forestville, Rivertown County."
As soon as Rachel finished speaking, one of the women with the last name Lu looked at Peter and Rachel scrutinizingly and proudly said, "Are you from the countryside?"
Rachel nodded.
Lu then turned to her daughter and said, "See, once rural people go to college, their fate begins to change. Kate, when you outgrow your old clothes, give some to your classmates."
She then looked at Rachel and said, "Now that you’re classmates, if you’re having trouble with living expenses, let us know. Kate is a kind child and will help others. Don’t bring any rural habits here."
Peter had been listening without saying anything, but was now unhappy with this woman’s condescending attitude and the way she looked down on farmers.
Unable to hold it in any longer, he said to Rachel, "Rachel, I’ll wire a million dollars to your card. Use it however you want, don’t be thrifty. Let’s go buy a computer."
After hearing this, Lu stared at Peter, then looked at Margot Davis and snorted sarcastically, "Wow, look at these rich farmers, casually throwing around a million dollars, so extravagant. That’s the problem with farmers, they don’t know their place in the world."
Margot Davis seemed hesitant to say something, but ultimately remained silent.
Just then, Peter’s cell phone rang again, and it was Maurren asking for the room number.
After Peter told her where they were, Maurren quickly came in.
Upon entering, she smiled at Peter and said, "Peter, what’s going on? You’re in Kingston and didn’t call me? Are you looking down on me?"
"Not at all, I was just planning to ask you to look after my sister."
Peter introduced Maurren to his sister.
Maurren smiled at Rachel and said, "Hi, little sister, my name is Maurren Smith, I am your brother’s best friend. From now on, Kate, you’re under my protection in Kingston."
Peter smiled and said, "Give her some real benefits."
Maurren laughed, "Sure, once I owed you, and now Kate is here. I should show you my gratitude. Do you need a car or a house? Just tell me."
While they were talking, Lu couldn’t hold it in any longer and laughed, "Look at that, promising cars and houses, what’s next, airplanes and cannons?"
She said this jokingly to Margot Davis, but then she noticed that Margot was getting a bit uncomfortable. She hesitated and asked Maurren, "Are you Maurren Smith from the Greenwood Clan?"
"Yes, and you are Mrs. Davis?"
"My name is Margot Davis, do you remember me?"
Margot started to show a lot of respect at this point.
Lu also noticed something strange and looked at Margot Davis in a daze. She knew her old classmate was very powerful and well-connected, almost like her own personal support. Many things could be arranged by Margot, who was an important figure in Kingston. Why would she show such an attitude to a young woman today?
Glancing from Margot to Maurren and then back at Peter and Rachel, Lu began to regret some of the things she had said earlier, feeling that she may have overstepped her boundaries.
