Chapter 1668: Chapter 1666: Something happened
Watching Azrael Richardson being taken away in a car, the people at the branch office all stood there with wide eyes, dumbstruck.
"Come to my office for a moment,"
Henry Carter said to Peter Brown and the others standing there.
Everyone followed Henry Carter into his office.
After everyone sat down, Henry Carter sighed and said, "I never expected Azrael to get into trouble!"
This was something that no one had anticipated; Richardson had been taken away by the Discipline Inspection Department first thing in the morning for his involvement in a case where someone had accused him of bribery.
With a heavy heart, Matthew Clarkson said, "In construction, there’s always some under-the-table dealings; with the province taking action like this, who knows what will happen next!"
The deputy managers also began to shake their heads and sigh.
"Yeah, it’s said that Richardson got tangled up in some sort of incident!"
At this point, it was clear that no one was in the mood to talk.
Peter said, "Manager Harrison shouldn’t be in trouble, right?"
"Hard to say now, they took him away, didn’t they? I reckon he won’t be able to clear himself of his own issues—it’s over!"
Henry Carter was certainly pessimistic about Richardson’s situation.
After thinking for a moment, Henry Carter still decided to call the head office to report Richardson’s situation.
In fact, the Group company was already aware of the situation; everyone was in a meeting discussing the developing events. It wasn’t just Richardson who had issues; several others had been taken away as well.
After chatting with everyone for a while, Peter returned to his office.
Once inside his office, Peter browsed through various pieces of information on his computer. After a while, he came to understand the situation with Richardson quite clearly. Richardson had indeed been affected by the power struggle involving Madison O’Donnell and had become cannon fodder. The problem was substantial, not just for him, but for the branch office too—more issues were bound to arise, and they wouldn’t be minor.
"Boss, Azrael’s in trouble, huh!"
Leah Nelson entered with a smile showing on her face.
"Yes, I didn’t expect it to happen."
Peter also pretended as if he knew nothing.
"Boss, do you think there will be others getting into trouble next?"
Seeing Leah’s enigmatic expression, Peter shook his head and said, "The province is ramping up its anti-corruption efforts; no one knows what’s going to happen. We should do our work and try to avoid any inappropriate actions as much as possible."
"I heard that quite a few people have been taken in, and to my knowledge, you’re the only one in the branch office who hasn’t been involved in those affairs, so, good people get rewarded."
Peter saw Leah’s demeanor but didn’t take up her cue.
Seeing that Peter didn’t want to discuss it further, Leah whispered, "It’s good that Imogan Jones hasn’t been involved with Azrael recently, otherwise, heh heh."
Watching Leah add some Hot water before leaving, Peter just shook his head.
Just then, Reid Nelson called Peter to ask if he would be alright.
"How’s that Mobile Game of yours coming along?"
After a brief inquiry, Peter asked.
"Haven’t you seen it? It’s been in testing for the last two days. Don’t you know, it’s hot, lots of reviews, most of them positive."
When it came to the Mobile Game, Reid sounded very excited, endlessly discussing it.
After the call, Peter opened the Mobile Game’s official website and indeed saw a whole slew of comments. Reading through them, Peter silently nodded in approval. This Mobile Game wasn’t an ordinary thing—it was created using technology surpassing that of the present, so it’s no wonder it was such a hit, with a great user experience all around.
Alright, this project was a success; the next step was just to wait for the money to roll in.
He quickly dismissed the Mobile Game from his thoughts; even if the game earned a lot of money, it wouldn’t matter much to Peter. What mattered most to him now was to have a variety of challenging environments for personal growth.
Before the workday ended, something shocking happened—Henry Carter too was taken away.
If Azrael Richardson’s arrest was surprising, Carter’s was earthquake-level news.
The entire branch office was stunned to see Henry Carter taken away in the car.
After witnessing the car drive off, Matthew Clarkson looked around with a complex expression and said, "Let’s go to my office for a moment; we need to discuss this."
With Carter gone, Clarkson considered himself the next in command and immediately assumed responsibility for the branch’s operations, summoning everyone to his office.
Once in Matthew Clarkson’s office, he stated, "I have reported Old Dexter’s situation to the head office. The management’s stance is that we absolutely must not fall into disarray. The branch’s operations mustn’t be affected by Old Dexter’s troubles. I will be taking charge for the time being, and I hope everyone can support me in this."
Peter said, "No problem, I’ll make sure to do my job well."
Seeing Peter be the first to vow support, a smile spread across Matthew’s face as he said, "With everyone’s support, my job becomes much easier."
As the others expressed their support one by one, Matthew added, "From what I’ve gathered, both Old Azrael and Old Dexter were deeply involved. This situation serves as a wake-up call for us all—we must have red lines that we cannot cross in our work."
Deputy Manager Rush Jones cursed, "What kind of world is this? Without bending the rules, there’s no chance of winning a bid."
Everyone glanced at him; with Carter now gone, Jones, who was part of Carter’s faction, had lost his sway, and some even speculated he might be the next to get into trouble.
Matthew sternly stated, "We must follow the law in everything we do."
Concluding the discussion, Matthew said, "Well, with things having developed to this point, what we need to focus on is stability. As long as we don’t make any serious mistakes, that’s what counts, so let’s not aim for merits, just avoid faults."
After discussing work matters briefly, everyone returned to their offices.
In reality, their minds were no longer focused on work. Events like these had left everyone quite shaken.
Peter even noticed Rush Jones looking disturbed as he left.
Watching Jones depart and already aware of some details, Peter internally shook his head. This time, to make an impression, Carter had crossed the line in the bidding process, along with Jones. Following the issues with Huxley Taylor’s backer, it was inevitable that they would face consequences.
At this point, Peter could only sigh. His only intention had been to secure the county project, unaware that his actions would create such a large backlash, but it seemed these people were now being dealt with because of him.
