Chapter 1635: Chapter 1633: Assistant Manager Now
Public opinion suddenly shifted, and all sorts of information about Peter Brown were dug up. He was proficient in three foreign languages and computer literate, and now he had knowledge of architecture. Once these details had surfaced, there was no stopping Peter from becoming a sensation.
Peter himself didn’t pay much attention to these matters. For him, it was merely an examination and, after it was over, he drove back to his residence.
This time, the group company had arranged for him to stay in a hotel not far from the company.
Right after Peter left, Tobia Armstrong’s eyes burned with enthusiasm, and he quickly made a phone call to report Peter’s situation to the leadership.
Actually, by the time Tobia had reported it, others had already informed them. The leaders were pleased and laughed heartily, saying, "Talent indeed, a real talent. You know, Brooks, having such talent within a subsidiary company seems like a waste. You must realize that someone of his caliber is highly sought-after nationwide, and companies will surely try to poach him. You need to be prepared mentally for this, as retaining such talent will be a test for your company."
Initially, Tobia hadn’t thought about it this way, but now the perspective seemed monumental. If they couldn’t retain such talent, how would people view his company? Would they think there was a problem in how they managed personnel?
After ending the call, Tobia turned to the leaders beside him and said, "Let’s head back to the company for a meeting."
Soon, the leaders had returned to the group company, and everyone gathered in a small conference room.
As soon as they sat down, Tobia seriously said, "Peter’s examination has proven his innocence and brought honor to our group, mending the general perception of our company and, in fact, promoting it."
The leaders, having witnessed Peter’s examination, were conflicted about his capabilities. Yet, one thing was certain—according to Tobia, Peter had indeed achieved something significant for the group.
"Haha, this kid is really impressive. I didn’t expect him to be that strong. I suggest we transfer him to work in the Chief Engineer’s office."
"Our International Affairs Department needs such talent. Understanding three languages is not something everyone can do."
"He himself has a solid performance in office work. Having him in the group company’s office would be suitable as well."
The leaders all wanted to snag this talent for their departments, and the discussion erupted spontaneously.
After letting everyone talk for a while, Tobia said, "It’s great that everyone recognizes he is a talent, but have you thought about whether we can retain such a talent? If our group cannot keep him, what will the public say about our company, and how will people view our employment practices?"
Tobia’s words made everyone fall silent. Upon deeper consideration, the point was indeed valid. Peter had now become famous and was no longer the unrecognized migrant worker he once was; this issue indeed warranted thorough consideration.
Seeing everyone deep in thought, Tobia said, "As everyone understands, such talent is needed everywhere. Some companies will definitely try to poach him. As the company’s director, I do not wish to see this happen; thus, we must show our sincerity to retain him!"
"Yes, such technical talent is needed by our company. As the Chief Engineer, I believe Mr. Armstrong is right. We must show our sincerity, and Mr. Armstrong has already made his stance clear last time. The special promotion is well deserved if the kid does well in the exams."
Tobia indeed felt this way and nodded slightly, "We are a business, not a government office. We need not rank by seniority. Since he truly has the skill, we should utilize it. Given his capabilities, appointing him as a project manager would be totally fine. Considering his practical ability, however, I think we should initially appoint him as a deputy manager. Once he gets familiar with the duties of the position, then we can promote him based on his capabilities. What do you all think?"
Everyone looked at each other and, thinking about other companies possibly poaching him, they felt uncertain.
A vice president said, "What if other companies offer him a higher salary?"
Tobia smiled and responded, "What we need to show is a stance. With this stance, even if other companies poach him, we will still have our say."
"I agree."
"Right, it’s just a deputy manager of a subsidiary, after all."
"Since that subsidiary is going through a restructure, let’s promote him during this adjustment. He has earned the certification and qualifies as technical talent; let him oversee engineering technology."
During this discussion, a leader said, "Rylan Williams is being transferred. Why not set the whole team lineup now?"
That’s when Tobia thought of Henry Ford, hesitating slightly before saying, "Sure, let’s discuss this matter since everyone is here. It’s unusual for us all to be gathered like this."
"Hadley has always wanted to return to work; I think he could perform better at the subsidiary. How about letting him go back?"
"I disagree; he already had some issues there before, returning wouldn’t be appropriate."
"Henry Carter is actually more suited to be manager, and he gets along well with Peter."
Following a period of discussion, the Deputy Secretary said, "Here’s my thought—we are about to open a new market, which needs an experienced leader. That project is bigger than the subsidiary. I suggest that Comrade Henry Ford lead that project, and Comrade Henry Carter stay as the manager of the subsidiary. This way, both areas are covered. What do you think?"
Tobia nodded slightly, "I also think this is feasible. Let’s put it to a vote."
After some more discussion, the leaders quickly voted, and the Deputy Secretary’s proposal was approved.
Tobia asked, "Peter is a party member, right?"
The Deputy Secretary replied, "No, but he has submitted his application to join the Party."
"Good, he should be given priority in training. Given his tech expertise, I suggest we rank him third in the subsidiary."
No one objected to this proposal, and it was quickly approved.
After the rushed meeting, each participant was called in for a discussion. When Henry Ford heard he could lead the new, largest project, he was overjoyed and secretly proud. He was benefiting from Peter’s spotlight; otherwise, he wouldn’t have had such a good opportunity.
When Peter was called in to discuss, he was a bit stunned, wondering how he had suddenly become a deputy manager and a influential third-ranking one at that.
