Chapter 163 Learning Foreign Language
Chapter 163: Chapter 163 Learning Foreign Language
Instead of heading back to where he stayed after leaving, Peter Brown headed straight to the bookstore.
When he arrived at the largest Xinhua bookstore in the provincial capital, he found that the main language used in the Middle East was Arabic. Israel uses Hebrew and Arabic; Some Arab countries in the Gulf, such as UAE and Kuwait, can use English; North African countries in the Maghreb region, such as Morocco and Algeria, can use French.
Only then did Peter realize how little he knew about this. He walked to where the English textbooks were displayed, knowing that English and French were two potentially useful languages.
Peter only knew that his memory had been excellent since he began cultivating, especially since reaching the Qi Refining Second Layer. He had no idea how well he could memorize vocabulary, so he picked up a first-year textbook to start.
This time, Peter flipped directly to the vocabulary section at the back of the book. Seeing there were over 2,000 words, he set about memorizing them.
What surprised him most was how the words seemed to imprint themselves into his memory after a single glance. He felt as though he’d memorized them.
No way!
Peter’s surprise grew. After closing the book, he closed his eyes and began to recall.
Wow!
Peter was genuinely amazed this time. He discovered that his memory was exceptionally strong, even with the book closed, the words he had seen remained clearly imprinted in his mind.
That’s incredible!
If that’s the case...
Peter’s eyes sparkled as he looked at textbooks from various countries.
Buy!
Peter decided, knowing he would inevitably need to travel abroad in the future, that learning another foreign language would be beneficial.
He fetched a small cart and went to where the textbooks were. Any he thought he would find useful, he put in the cart.
This time, Peter was more liberal with his selections; English, French, Japanese, German...
Peter didn’t care what language it was. If he saw a language class, he added it directly to the cart.
Although Peter had a Space Ring and could effortlessly steal books without being noticed, he wouldn’t do such a thing. He felt it was more righteous to buy what he could afford.
A pretty girl working at the store noticed Peter, hurriedly walked over and asked, "Sir, are you buying all these textbooks?"
"Yes, could you calculate how much it’s going to cost?"
"Are you purchasing on behalf of a school?"
The girl was genuinely confused, assuming that such a large order should be negotiated with the manager for a discount. Plus, school orders usually have specific targets. She couldn’t understand why this young man was buying so much.
Peter laughed and said, "Hmm, you’re out of stock here. My plan is to buy a set of each."
"You can buy them online. They have everything," the girl softly suggested after seeing there were no other textbooks available.
Peter looked at the pleasant girl, nodded and said, "Thank you, I’ll check it out when I get the chance." He could see that this girl was kind-hearted.
"In addition to memorizing words when learning foreign languages, you also need to learn grammar and practice speaking. There are CDs over there for pronunciation practice; you might want to buy some too," she enthusiastically suggested.
Peter could see her enthusiasm, and after seeing how many books he had purchased, she suggested he also get some supplementary materials.
"Sure, get me a set of those too. I’m taking them all."
Peter was brimming with confidence and wasn’t concerned about the cost. He reasoned that since he was going to learn, he might as well purchase more resources.
"I’m Yi Xin. Let me know if you need anything else."
It was clear the girl had an eye for things. She smiled in assistance as she gathered various CDs and even made a phone call to ask the warehouse if there were other textbooks or CDs available.
"Take one of those DVD players, too. That way, I can play them anytime," Peter said, spotting a DVD player and deciding to get it as well.
Having spent tens of thousands on books and materials, Peter was in a surprisingly good mood. Paying promptly, he later found himself staring blankly at the mass of materials, wondering how he was going to carry all of them.
"Sir, would you like us to deliver them for you?" Yi Xin asked with a smile.
"Great!" Peter immediately gave her the location of the hotel he was staying at, asking them to arrange delivery right to his room.
After a flurry of activities, with Yi Xin busying herself to assist, he found her to be very capable.
"Thank you so much," Peter said hurriedly when he saw Yi Xin about to leave.
"It’s nothing, I should thank you. With all the purchases you made today, I’ve been able to meet my sales target!"
Yi Xin was very delighted. She never expected that a casual conversation would lead to tens of thousands in sales.
Just before Yi Xin left, she exchanged phone numbers with Peter and then quickly departed.
Looking at all the textbooks and CDs filling his room, Peter couldn’t help but smile at his impulsive nature. Wanting to understand Middle Eastern languages, he ended up buying so many textbooks and CDs.
Regardless, he was planning to learn anyway. With such a powerful memory, what good would it do if he didn’t use it for learning?
Peter planned to start learning English and stored all other language textbooks and CDs in his Space Ring.
After some experimentation, Peter made a discovery. When he circulates his True Qi, especially when it enters his Brain Domain, his memorization is at its strongest. He could memorize a hundred words in just five minutes, and it felt as though he would never forget them.
To thoroughly understand, Peter didn’t use the fastest method. Instead, he started pronunciation practice with the CDs after memorizing the words.
Starting with the basics, he memorized a thousand words, including their pronunciation, in two hours.
Although some top students could achieve this, Peter knew his situation was completely different. Once he memorized something, True Qi would leave a trace in his Brain Domain, making it impossible to forget.
Looking at the first-year textbook with around 2,500 words, Peter believed he could master it in no more than five hours and never forget it.
Albeit not as exaggerated as he imagined, Peter knew that from then on, foreign languages would no longer be a problem.
With his newfound interest, Peter spent five hours mastering the entire contents of the first volume of the middle school textbook.
