Chapter 1586: Chapter 1585: Peter Brown Also Has Connections_1
The next day, as soon as Henry Ford and the others returned, they notified the middle management to hold a meeting and convey the document.
Without exception, all the leading members sat high on the stage, and everyone’s expressions appeared solemn.
Reid Nelson personally lifted the camera to take photos, and Peter noticed that Reid had her own particular way of photographing. She first aimed the camera at a certain leader, and only after that leader had positioned himself properly and struck a pose did she press the shutter button.
Not just that, Reid made sure to take a photo of every single leader before she was done.
"Reid, why take a photo of each person? Isn’t that a waste?" Reid had moved to the back after she finished taking the photos when Peter whispered:
"The company’s money bought the film. If I don’t get a photo of everyone, won’t they hate me?"
Was there really such a concern?
Peter was suddenly at a loss for words.
Reid whispered, "Leaders are the center, nobody knows who will suddenly take the central seat, better safe than sorry."
As she said this, she nudged Peter with her elbow, "Look at Ivy."
Peter then noticed that Ivy Cooper appeared quite cheerful today, carrying a teapot around the stage to pour tea for the leaders, dressed in a skirt, and revealing a swath of white at her chest.
Seeing her behave like that, Peter shook his head in secret; Ivy probably had no idea that the seemingly upright Christian Greenhill was a pervert.
It was evident that Christian Greenhill seemed excited as well, sitting there, he had become the person chairing the meeting.
"Comrades, the meeting will now commence," Christian Greenhill surveyed the room with his gaze and then said seriously, "Now, let’s have Henry Ford read the document from the provincial authorities."
Henry Ford picked up the document and began to announce it in a methodical manner, everyone listening intently as if it were a matter of utmost importance.
After the announcement, Henry Ford gave a lengthy discourse on his own attitude and feelings, expressing resolute obedience to the orders from his superiors.
Peter, with his attentive observation, noticed a trace of distraction in Henry Ford’s expression, filled with too much unease regarding Mr. Taylor’s sudden transfer.
The leaders, one by one, displayed their attitude, as if only by doing so could they let the newly-arrived Director Walker understand their intentions.
When it came to Christian Greenhill’s summary, he was particularly talkative today, first repeating the points according to the thoughts of Henry Ford and the others before launching into a lecture on the demands of a cadre: obedience, integrity, eradicating unhealthy tendencies, and maintaining a correct style...
Peter, listening to Christian Greenhill’s impassioned and animated speech while comparing it to the contents on his computer, couldn’t help but reveal a smile.
"What’s up?" Reid asked in a low voice.
"Just thought of a joke," Peter replied.
Reid chuckled, "You let your mind wander while the leader is speaking; aren’t you afraid the leader will give you a hard time?"
"What’s there to be afraid of, it’s not a big deal."
Just as Peter finished speaking, Christian Greenhill suddenly slammed the table and shouted, "Peter Brown, what are you talking about? At this formal meeting, you’re not listening attentively; do you have any sense of organizational discipline at all?"
Silence!
The entire office went suddenly silent, and everyone’s gaze turned toward Peter.
This was something nobody had expected. Why had Christian Greenhill suddenly turned against Peter Brown?
Everyone’s gaze quickly shifted to Henry Ford’s face, knowing full well that this action was a slap in the face, a direct affront to Henry Ford himself.
However, to everyone’s surprise, Henry Ford sat there as if the matter didn’t concern him and he didn’t say a word.
What had happened?
When everyone recalled what Ivy Cooper had said about Tobia Armstrong and Christian Greenhill yesterday, they suddenly had an epiphany: it was Christian Greenhill who now held significant power, while Henry Ford had fallen out of favor. Christian Greenhill was using this event to test Henry Ford.
Though the overt action was to reprimand Peter Brown, the real purpose was to see how Henry Ford would react.
Peter Brown’s days are doomed!
These thoughts spun in everyone’s heads, while Peter Brown also snapped out of his initial shock.
Considering Christian Greenhill had already become his adversary, he might as well stand his ground!
Peter Brown cared about his job, but couldn’t tolerate being yelled at in front of everyone. He wasn’t the type to endure it quietly.
With this in mind, Peter said, "Mr. Graham, when I heard you talking about integrity, I couldn’t help but laugh. Some of our leaders lack integrity, sleeping with women, taking photos with their cell phones, and even keeping a diary to record it. How can such leaders, who act so immorally, have the right to speak about integrity while sitting up on stage?"
Ah!
This took everyone by surprise, and all eyes once again turned to Christian Greenhill, then quickly back to Peter.
At this crucial moment today, Peter had dared to confront Christian Greenhill. Did this kid have the audacity of a tiger?
Christian Greenhill’s intention had truly been to use Peter as a gauge for Henry Ford’s stance and to assert his own authority in front of Ivy Cooper; he never expected Peter to speak out in front of so many people and was immediately dumbfounded.
While outsiders were unaware, Christian Greenhill felt a sinking feeling in his heart, thinking how did this kid know about his actions.
With this in mind, Christian Greenhill, feeling somewhat guilty, said sternly, "What are you saying?"
Determined to fight this out, Peter spoke loudly, "I just found the situation amusing and laughed, that’s all I did."
"Make it clear, who are you referring to? Have the guts to name them," Christian Greenhill pressed.
Peter responded, "The Disciplinary Committee will be conducting investigations soon anyway. Whoever it is knows themselves."
At this moment, Vincent Clinton’s eyes also lit up; he looked at Peter and said, "Come on Peter, make it clear. Since we are discussing integrity, you should speak up if you’ve noticed something wrong. No need to beat around the bush."
Henry Ford was also looking at Peter now.
Feeling everyone’s gaze turn to him, Peter said, "I’ve heard from friends within the province that there is such a leader in our branch. The provincial and municipal discipline inspection commissions have been investigating for quite some time, and the results should be out within the next few days. As to who it is, I really don’t know. I just felt moved when I heard Mr. Graham speak and mentioned it. If everyone wants to know, I believe it will be clear in a day or two."
Although Peter had not named anyone specifically, everyone’s gaze fell on Christian Greenhill.
The looks from the leading members toward Peter suddenly turned complex, discerning from his words a key insight: Peter was not without support, he had connections within the province, people who knew the ins and outs.
This matter just got more complicated!
As everyone turned to look at Christian Greenhill, they saw his complexion change drastically, and beads of sweat had begun to form on his forehead.
Could it be Christian Greenhill?
