Chapter 1575: Chapter 1574: The Legitimate Source of Money_1
The next morning, when he went to work, both women in the office turned their attention toward Peter Brown.
"Peter, where did Edward Ford take you for some fun yesterday?"
Upon hearing Ivy Cooper’s question, Peter Brown sighed and said, "Speaking of which makes me depressed; I got a lecture from Edward Ford. He scolded me for not considering learning to drive since I started working in the office, saying that all office personnel should know how to drive. I asked if you two had your driver’s licenses?"
Ivy Cooper laughed and said, "I learned while I was in school, but unfortunately, I don’t have a car to drive. I don’t believe Edward Ford would call you out just to talk about this."
Reid Nelson also looked puzzledly at Peter Brown.
Peter Brown said, "It’s really about this. Edward Ford said he agreed to let me borrow some money to learn and then slowly deduct it from my Prize Money."
"Edward Ford’s relationship with your family is really too good!"
A hint of something unspoken shone in Ivy Cooper’s eyes.
"Haven’t seen Edward Ford come to work yet."
Reid Nelson looked outside and made a comment.
Peter Brown said, "What’s depressing me is exactly that. I thought I’d have a big meal following the leader yesterday, but Edward Ford had some emergency and left for the provincial city, leaving me to walk home hungry."
Both women, however, did not laugh, showing puzzled expressions on their faces.
"Didn’t he say what he was going for?" Ivy Cooper asked.
"How would I know what for? The leader didn’t mention it. I just heard him take a phone call." After finishing his story, Peter Brown headed to finance.
As Ivy Cooper watched Peter Brown’s departing figure, she spoke with deep meaning, "Impressive, only been here a few days, and he’s already gained so much of Edward Ford’s trust. Won’t be long before he’s leading us?"
Reid Nelson’s gaze sharpened.
Seeing Reid Nelson’s look, Ivy Cooper just smiled.
Afterward, the two sat there, each lost in their own thoughts.
Peter Brown had no idea that Ivy Cooper had taken another jab at him; after borrowing the money, he headed toward his uncle’s place.
When Archie Williams heard that Peter Brown had been tasked with learning how to drive, he laughed heartily, "You came to the right person. I know a great instructor, and I’ll take you to him." He then took Peter Brown to sign up at the training center.
The instructor was a middle-aged man named Michael Lee, who happened to know Archie Williams well. After a warm chat between the two, Peter Brown’s learning schedule was pretty much set. The center had just organized a night training class managed by Michael Lee, running from seven to eleven each evening. Peter Brown joined this class, and if he did well, he could get his driver’s license within a month.
Michael Lee looked at Peter Brown and asked, "Have you ever driven before?"
"No."
"Then we’ll start with the basics. Young people like you should learn quickly. There are four people in this class, and you’re the only guy, hehe."
After chatting for a while and arranging the learning schedule, Peter Brown and his uncle left the training center.
Actually, there wasn’t a type of car Peter Brown hadn’t driven before, but it was all just for show. This situation was totally stress-free for him.
Walking down the street, Archie Williams said, "I’m a worker and not part of your company; you are an official employee of the company, everything has to be more cautious for you. I’ve heard that things at your company aren’t stable at the moment, you must listen to everything Edward Ford says."
"Uncle, I’m aware of the situation, and I’ve got it under control," Peter assured.
"Alright, I have already given the money to your parents, and they were delighted. It helped alleviate some of the pressure at home. It’s important to work hard; having a job is not easy, and having one that keeps you sheltered from the sun and rain in an office is even harder," he added.
At this point, Archie Williams remarked, "I’ve heard there’s a chance to buy property at an internal price with this building project. If only I had the money, I could buy one and just leave it there."
This statement struck a chord with Peter Brown; he had 1.5 million dollars sitting idle without generating any returns. Should he consider investing it?
Having learned quite a bit about economics, Peter was highly interested in investment opportunities. The money wasn’t doing any good just sitting there; why not take a shot at it?
Of course, Peter wouldn’t actually consider buying a property from his own company’s building project. After all, the origins of his funds were somewhat unclear.
He needed to find a way to launder the money first.
After seeing Archie off, Peter walked back, pondering over how to proceed. Without a credible source of the funds, he couldn’t expect help from his parents. He needed a plan.
As he walked, Peter found himself in front of the Antique Market in County Town and, almost unconsciously, stepped inside.
Clear Bull County, where Peter lived, was an ancient county rich in cultural heritage. Naturally, artifacts were occasionally unearthed there, giving rise to an antique market. It was well-known for its antique stalls, and Peter often heard of people finding bargains there.
Walking through the bustling market, Peter mused that antiques could be a suitable excuse to offer others.
The more he thought about it, the more feasible it seemed.
After a thorough look without finding any suitable items, he found himself at a stall with a collection of old books.
At that moment, he overheard two old book vendors boasting.
"Last time, that kid was so lucky. He picked up a book from me and found a Monkey Stamp tucked inside. Someone offered him 12,000 for that stamp. Boy, that eight-cent Monkey Stamp turned out to be quite the windfall for him!"
"You should have checked the books beforehand; now someone else got the profit, didn’t they?"
"Sigh, that kid struck it rich!"
"I heard those Monkey Stamps have gone up to 12,000, and if it’s a full sheet, they’re being flipped for 1.5 million dollars!"
Hearing about the 1.5 million dollars, Peter’s eyes lit up as he asked, "What kind of postage stamp is worth so much money?"
The vendors looked at Peter and one of them chuckled, "The 1980s Monkey Stamp. It’s all the rage in the market now. If you have one of these stamps, you’re made for life."
Another stall owner laughed and said, "You don’t seem too familiar with this stuff. See, I have a few books right here that explain about postage stamps and antiques. Want to buy a few and have a read?"
Peter noticed the pile of old books at the man’s stall. Thinking it would be good to learn about the subject, he nodded and replied, "Sure, give me one of each kind. I’ll take them home to read."
The book vendor, surprised that Peter was serious about purchasing, happily sold him over ten books at the price of old books.
Watching Peter leave with the books, the other stall owner laughed and said, "Damn, you actually managed to sell your trashy books."
The book vendor also laughed, "Everyone’s crazy about getting rich these days. It’s all about mutual consent."
At that moment, Peter truly was in high spirits, feeling that he had found an excellent method to launder his money. He was determined to learn more about antiques.
