Chapter 1550: Chapter 1549: A Nice Atmosphere in the Office_1
"Mission accomplished!"
After the final keystroke, a smile crept across Peter Brown’s face. Having spent a few hours crafting, his small program was now installed in Christian Greenhill’s and Vincent Clinton’s computers. Now he could hear their office conversations through his cell phone, and although he hadn’t extended his reach to their phones yet, he felt capable of keeping timely tabs on their movements.
The next day at work, Peter arrived wearing a headset.
No sooner had he stepped into the office than Reid Nelson chuckled and said, "Got yourself a headset, huh?"
"Just following Sister Ivy’s lead, learning a foreign language or something in my spare time to improve myself."
Ivy Cooper looked up at Peter, her face brimming with a smile, "I just listen to music. I never thought you’d start learning a foreign language. Awesome!" she laughed.
"What foreign language software did you download?" Ivy asked casually.
Peter hurriedly replied, "I found one online, not sure how it is. Can you take a look for me?"
Ivy took Peter’s cell phone and pretended to check the software, thoughtfully giving him some pointers along the way.
"I’m so grateful to you, Sister Ivy." Peter silently praised her as he smelled the fragrance wafting from her.
With a smile still on his face, Peter realized he had indeed changed a lot; now he, too, could pretend.
His cell phone did contain a randomly chosen software app, but all that was just to conceal his eavesdropping activities.
After Peter had brewed tea for everyone, the office quieted down.
Reid Nelson, clearly distracted, sat there flipping through documents with her mind evidently elsewhere.
Ivy, on the other hand, seemed in high spirits as she hummed a tune.
Around ten o’clock, Ivy’s phone rang. Glancing at her cell phone, she picked it up and stepped out.
Watching Ivy’s retreating figure, Peter thought to himself that he should really install his software in her phone as soon as possible.
Powering up his computer, Peter concentrated on recalling content about implanting software, and after mulling it over for a while, numerous pieces of knowledge came flooding back, giving him some clearer insights. Indeed, there was no need to physically possess their phones; a hacker is someone who can do whatever they want as long as there’s a network.
With that thought, Peter glanced at Reid, who was still spacing out. He quickly brought up the hidden software on his computer and started typing rapidly.
After several settings adjustments, the software had a new function.
Looking again at Reid, Peter began installing the setup on her phone.
With just a phone number, knowing a name, and especially having an ID card number, the task posed no difficulty for Peter.
Unbeknownst to Reid, Peter had swiftly installed a tiny hidden program on her cell phone.
The clever aspect of Peter’s program was that if he detected any danger, he could immediately use his own phone to command the removal of the hidden software from the other party’s phone or computer.
In any case, he wasn’t up to anything bad, just eavesdropping on a few people’s conversations. After using it, he would just erase it; Peter wasn’t particularly worried about running into any trouble.
Knowledge is power, indeed!
With the program successfully installed on the other device, Peter felt quite pleased with himself.
The next step would be the other people’s phones!
At the moment, Peter hadn’t dwelled on the potency of his technology; all he was thinking about was listening in on their conversations.
Just then, a notification vibration suddenly came from Peter’s cell phone.
His heart stirring, Peter began to listen intently.
The voice was coming from Christian Greenhill’s office.
"Ivy, things are almost in place. Mr. Spencer is moving things along swiftly. As long as we produce the evidence, bringing him down won’t be much of a problem."
Christian’s voice carried a sycophantic tone, and he spoke softly and soothingly.
"Hadley, we’re at the final stage now; we can’t let him know we’ve bribed someone to testify against him."
"Don’t worry about it, not even he would expect that."
As the two conversed secretly behind closed doors, Peter listened with growing alarm. From their discussion, it became clear that Edward Ford’s trusted follower had been bribed by them. Once that person testified, Henry Ford would certainly be in trouble.
After discussing a few more things, Christian said, "Wendy, the Integrated Office will soon appoint you as the director. You should start thinking about office matters. As for your plans, I’ve discussed Reid with Hadley, and even if she keeps her job, she’ll likely be moved to another position; that’s up to Hadley to decide."
"Hmph, Vincent must have his eyes on Reid," Ivy remarked dismissively.
Christian chuckled, "That’s just his style, but it works in our favor, so let it be. That Peter Brown is definitely not one of ours; he was positioned by Hadley and is not our kind."
"I know. When the time comes, we’ll just let him go," said Ivy carelessly.
So it was!
Upon hearing this, Peter’s face turned grave; he hadn’t expected Ivy, who seemed friendly on the surface, to truly be looking to get rid of him.
At this point, Peter had no more qualms about standing against Ivy and her group.
After a while, Ivy returned to the office.
Listening to the clicking of her high heels outside, Peter switched his cell phone back to the language learning app, pretending to still be studying.
However, Peter’s brain was already swimming with a sea of ideas.
Now he understood that a key point in Henry’s downfall would be that insider bribed by Christian and the rest; just who that was remained unknown. Once that person stepped forward, the leverage they had on Henry would surely turn the tables on him. The critical issue now was, Peter himself didn’t know who held that leverage.
"Peter, how’s the studying coming along?"
Ivy entered with a smile and patted Peter on the shoulder, still exuding warmth.
Unlocking his phone, Peter joked, "Turns out it’s not as hard as I thought. Learning a few foreign languages is almost like play."
Ivy chuckled softly, "When I was learning English, I put in a lot of effort. You’re saying it’s almost like play; such bragging doesn’t cost a penny."
Reid also laughed and said, "Peter claims learning English is almost like play; I’d like to see when you’ll be able to converse with Ivy."
"Don’t worry, that day will come."
The office atmosphere suddenly became much more jovial.
