Chapter 1403: Chapter 1403: I Call the Shots in This Village_1

Under the notification of Alexis White, villagers all gathered in the courtyard of the village community council.

The courtyard, which wasn’t too spacious to begin with, was soon packed with people, nearly everyone had arrived.

A table and chair were placed right in the middle, and Peter Brown was seated on that chair.

The villagers looked on with curiosity at all this.

In the past, whenever there was a village assembly, four chairs would be set out for the four brothers of the Hawkins Family to sit upon, but today, it was only Alexis White, the village chief, who was standing next to Peter, with the other three brothers of the Hawkins Family standing among the crowd below.

Alexis White glanced at the villagers and said loudly, "We’ve called everyone here today to discuss one thing, the town has sent a leader to assist our village, this is Peter Brown, the deputy director, let’s give him a warm welcome."

Peter realized this must be the Bennett Family brothers, the only ones in the village who could give the Hawkins brothers a run for their money.

Rising to his feet, Peter replied, "Alright, shall we fight here or outside?"

"We can’t move freely here, let’s go outside!"

"Fine."

Peter walked towards the outside.

When they reached an open field, Peter said, "Come at me."

This time, each of the Bennett brothers drew their weapons, all armed with knives and sticks.

Peter noticed there were three of the Bennett brothers, and one even wielded a pair of knives.

After saying this, Oliver Pangbourne swung his knife straight at Peter.

"Who else is unsatisfied? Come at me all at once."

Peter’s voice wasn’t loud, but it now carried a powerful deterring force. The villagers’ perception of Peter began to change.

In the meantime, Alexis breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing that the Bennett brothers had had their comeuppance just like the Hawkins brothers made him feel like he finally had company in his misery.

Peter turned his gaze back to the crowd and loudly inquired, "Bennett brothers, what do you say?"

Oliver Pangbourne’s heart sank. He reckoned that while they could have held their ground against the Hawkins brothers, they didn’t stand a chance against Director Wang—not even getting past the first exchange of blows. How could they fight him?

"We too agree to accept defeat and will listen to you from now on."

Peter then looked at the villagers and declared, "Anybody else refusing to listen? I’m laying it out straight. Whoever doesn’t listen to me from now on, I’ll make sure they get a beating until they do listen!"

"Director Wang, we’ll listen to you," came a response.

"Director Wang, we’ll definitely listen to you," another villager assured.

"You’re so strong; we follow the Strong Person," someone else proclaimed.

Peter nodded slightly and proclaimed loudly, "Good, starting today, I call the shots in this village!"

As he spoke, he glanced at Alexis White.

Alexis hurriedly added, "Everyone, listen to Director Wang. Whoever dares to disobey is opposing the Hawkins brothers."

"And if you don’t listen, you’re also opposing the Bennett brothers," another voice chimed in.

Only then did Peter’s expression soften, as he addressed the villagers, "When I arrived in this village, I saw nothing but ruin. I am ashamed for you. A village so poor, yet you think of nothing but fighting and drinking. What do you think you are? I see nothing but trash here!"

At that moment, a murderous look appeared in the eyes of the villagers. They were unhappy with Peter’s words, but when they thought about fighting him, they realized they were no match.

Peter continued loudly, "What future do you have if this goes on? Nobody respects you, and when you go out, you’re in rags. Aren’t you ashamed? Because I am."

"Director Wang, who doesn’t want a better life? But how can our village ever have good days? So many leaders have said that our village has no distinctive features, no resources—it’s just a place with no prospects," one villager replied.

"Yeah, who doesn’t want a good life? But we don’t see a way out either!" another villager chimed in.

Listening to the villagers’ discussions, Peter called out, "Like I said earlier, I call the shots in this village now. If you listen to me, I guarantee you’ll have nice houses, new clothes, savings at home, and you’ll grow more prosperous day by day. Follow me!"

"As long as there’s good food to eat, I, Kimmy Turner, will follow you," someone pledged.

"Jake Jones follows you too," said another.
