Chapter 1109: Chapter 109 Civil Servants Recruitment_1

A week had passed, and Peter Brown diligently practiced his cultivation technique every day. However, the gathered energy of Inner Qi was still insufficient. Now, with the help of AI, Peter also came to know some things about cultivation.

On Soul Ascendance Star, cultivation was divided into Innate and Acquired levels. For ordinary people, it was essential to reach a certain level in Acquired first before one could guide Qi into the body. Therefore, Peter realized his initial thought was wrong; he had assumed that all Immortal-level individuals were Innate.

Acquired cultivation had four layers: Immortal Power, Lingdong, Ju Neng, and Peak Ascension.

After a careful study, Peter discovered that these four layers were sensibly divided. Immortal Power was the lowest layer, mainly about gathering some energy to fully exhibit an Immortal’s body during attacks, similar to Earth’s Military Kings. Lingdong was a process of conditioning the body; once energy gathered, it could open up the body’s 108 spaces, thus transforming the body towards cultivation. Ju Neng involved accumulating energy after opening the acupoints, creating some offensive power. Naturally, Peak Ascension belonged to the category of Qi guiding into the body.

After looking at these four layers for a while, Peter knew that his current condition was probably at the Immortal Power layer.

It was weak, but from Harlan Swift, he also knew that cultivators were all in big cities, and there probably wasn’t anyone who had guided Qi into their body in this town. Therefore, for Peter, it was crucial to cultivate the Acquired abilities first.

Average people could only take this path, but Peter had an advantage over them with the use of Divine Sense, which allowed him to see the changes happening below his navel. This would definitely be beneficial for his cultivation.

As he was contemplating, the AI transmitted a Reminder Sound.

"Registration for the Great River Region Civil Servant Examination has begun, do you wish to register?"

The civil servant exam was underway?

Peter’s interest piqued, and he started to read the information displayed that anyone who was a citizen could take the examination, and candidates were selected based on scores.

What followed was information regarding the various job positions available.

It was only when he attempted to register did Peter realize he didn’t have the registration fee.

Damn it!

Peter had never been short of money before, and now, to come up short for such a critical registration was frustrating.

What to do now?

Peter began to feel a headache coming on.

Just then, Harlan Swift contacted Peter using a special communication device that allowed them to see each other as if they were speaking face-to-face.

Peter asked, "Is something the matter?"

"Peter, did you see the information about the civil servant examination? Are you registering? You have two months to prepare, and with your Divine Sense, you should have hope."

Peter replied with a wry smile, "You know my situation. The registration fee is five thousand Crystal Coins, and even if I get my salary, it will only be two thousand. Where am I supposed to find so much money?"

Harlan Swift also gave a wry smile and said, "I arrived here before you and have saved up six thousand Crystal Coins. I can only lend you a thousand, still not enough, though!"

Peter let out a sigh, "This is genuinely troublesome!"

Peter was well aware of Harlan’s situation; even if he had saved a bit, it certainly wasn’t much. Offering to lend a thousand was already very generous.

"Forget it, I’ll figure something out."

"Our job allows us a lot of flexibility, we can take on other work outside our regular hours as long as we can show up when the office calls for us. So, I suggest you find another job. Registration lasts for ten days, try your best to make it."

"It seems the high threshold for registration is deliberate by the government, aimed at weeding out those without money!"

Now Peter understood the motives of the upper levels; it was partly about making money, and also made clear that you couldn’t even try to register if you didn’t have wealth.

It’s truly difficult to make one’s way in such a place!

By now, Peter had started to feel a headache again.

Forget it, he might as well take Harlan’s advice and see if there’s suitable work available.

After leaving his home, Peter headed in the direction of the talent market.

As he walked, he came across the market and without much thought, wandered inside.

The market sold all kinds of things, and coming from a farming background, Peter naturally gravitated to the area selling elixirs.

"Sir, would you like to buy some medicine?"

"Just looking."

"The medicines here are very popular. Look, this Bone Soup is perfect for those in the Immortal Power layer to condition themselves. After a few uses, your Immortal Power layer will easily be strengthened."

After looking around for a while, Peter left speechlessly, unable to deny that he didn’t have any money. There were indeed some items that could help his cultivation, but without money, they were unattainable.

Ah!

Walking along the roadside, Peter inadvertently noticed some immortal grass that looked similar to the herbal medicine on Earth.

He went over to pick it and examined it closely with his Divine Sense. As he investigated, Peter began to stand there absentmindedly, lost in thought.

Maybe he really could make something from nothing!

Peter felt a surge of excitement.

He thought back to his days on Earth, where he would mix vegetables to create medicines beneficial for ordinary people. Why not try the same with the vegetables here?

To Peter, it seemed that the vegetables here were essentially the same as Earth’s, only enhanced. The fundamental difference wasn’t that big.

With this in mind, Peter returned to the vegetable market.

This time, he kept his head down, observing and picking up discarded vegetable leaves.

First, he’d try making a batch of Muscle and Bone Soup Liquid to see if it was viable!

Peter didn’t care how the shoppers viewed him; he filled a big bag with any vegetables he wanted.

In no time, his bag was filled with several bags’ worth.

Enough, this should be sufficient to make a few batches. If it works, he’d be able to cover the registration fee.

Carrying several bags of vegetables, Peter quickly made his way home.

When he reached the doorman, the doorman glanced at the bags of vegetables and then at Peter, remarking, "You always eat ready-made food, are you planning to cook now?"

Peter replied with a smile, "Just making some dishes from my hometown."

The doorman, knowing Peter came from a Cultivator, showed understanding and said, "You folks have it tough!"

At this moment, Peter was inwardly anxious; he didn’t know if his idea would succeed. If it did, it would be a historically significant event for him.
