Stunning Dragon Wife -
Chapter 194 - 193: The Unusually Enthusiastic
Chapter 194: Chapter 193: The Unusually Enthusiastic
Xiue’s husband, Liu Qinghong, was a teacher in the town and reportedly had an affair with a female leader there. He rarely returned to White Dragon Village, leaving Xiue alone to live a life akin to that of a widow. However, because Xiue had received secondary professional education and was the village accountant, she had an annual subsidy of twenty thousand yuan and managed to get by.
Xiue was a very domestic woman, the epitome of the ideal wife and mother that men dream of.
Her home comprised three large tile-roofed houses and a small courtyard filled with a variety of fresh flowers and green plants, exuding a strong sense of domesticity.
Who wouldn’t like such a woman? Many men in the village had their sights set on Xiue, but she remained chaste, faithful to her husband even though he hardly ever came home, perhaps once every other year. She never strayed.
"Sister Xiue."
Zhang Xiaoshan knocked on the gate.
As soon as he applied pressure, the wooden gate opened on its own, clearly left unlatched by Xiue for Zhang Xiaoshan.
Zhang Xiaoshan looked around to ensure no one was watching, then tiptoed inside.
Although he was there to treat Xiue’s illness, villagers might not see it that way. If someone saw him entering Xiue’s house, it would surely lead to gossip.
"Little Shan, you’ve arrived. Wait a moment; I’ll fix you something to eat," Xiue called out from inside as she heard the noise in the courtyard.
She emerged from the kitchen with a white apron over her dress and a short rolling pin in her hand, smiling warmly at Zhang Xiaoshan.
Zhang Xiaoshan, gazing at Xiue’s grace and intelligence, felt a tremor in his heart. Once upon a time, this was the life he had yearned for; he used to think Wu Xiaoru was such a woman. Coming home to a bowl of noodles cooked by his beloved would have made him perfectly content.
Now, things have changed; his relationship with Wu Xiaoru was completely over.
In Xiue, his sister by courtesy, he saw someone who was like his ideal partner.
"Sister, don’t fuss over me; I’m not hungry," Zhang Xiaoshan said, smiling as he declined.
However, Xiue insisted.
"Silly boy, food is as important to people as iron and steel are to a forge. If you don’t eat, where will you get the strength to treat my illness?" she said.
"Just wait; I’ll be done very soon," she added, turning back into the kitchen.
It was already noon, and Zhang Xiaoshan’s stomach was growling. He had only been politely declining; since Xiue was insistent, he decided not to be courteous anymore.
He sat down at the small stone table in the center of the courtyard.
"Little Shan, come and try my cooking. I made chicken soup noodles especially for you," Xiue said as she emerged from the kitchen within minutes, carrying a large platter.
She placed the platter on the table.
A small iron basin of noodles and a large porcelain bowl of chicken.
Chicken dishes don’t get cooked in a moment; it was obvious that Xiue had prepared earlier that day before going to find Zhang Xiaoshan. This meal was specially prepared for him.
"Sister Xiue, isn’t this a bit too lavish?" Zhang Xiaoshan asked, feeling somewhat embarrassed as he looked at the heaping plate of chicken.
Chicken might not be rare in the city, but this was White Dragon Village, an impoverished and desolate place where even finding a wife was a challenge, let alone affluence. Village households might raise pigs and chickens, but these were usually sold, not eaten, except during festivals and celebrations.
Although Xiue had a salary, she wasn’t particularly wealthy, even by herself.
And Zhang Xiaoshan knew Xiue to be frugal on ordinary days.
Slaughtering a chicken just for him was indeed an unexpected treat for Zhang Xiaoshan.
At the same time, he began to feel uneasy; while Xiue had always taken good care of him, today her warmth seemed rather out of the ordinary.
What exactly did she have in mind?
