Chapter 160: Non-Violent Persuasion
Chapter 160: Non-Violent Persuasion
Darren and Jason stood on either side of Henry with understanding looks, and Darren spoke in a soft tone.
"Yes, you’re senile, Henry. But don’t worry. The boss and I will make sure the authorities know exactly what happened here. We were attacked by the instructors and the boss saved our lives. But you were so traumatized by the attack that you started thinking the boss killed them. My father’s connections in the industry are very deep, I’m sure there are one or two psychologists that would be willing to work with you until you’re back on your feet."
Jason’s hand pressed down on Henry’s shoulder and Henry released a low ’eek’ as she turned in fear to look at Jason’s understanding face!
"So tell me... what happened here again?"
"I-I..."
Jason urged her along with a kind smile, and Henry felt the pressure getting so much that all thoughts of arguing with either of them forced themselves from her mind and she slowly nodded along with a nervous laugh.
"I-I guess I saw it wrong, after all... hehe... Y-Yes! I saw it wrong! It was self-defense!"
Darren’s face lit up and he clapped like he just finished watching a brilliant stage play, and Jason nodded and turned to walk away. Henry released a breath she didn’t know she had been holding and she decided it was better to just agree to their cover story than to try and get on the bad side of either Jason or Darren. As far as power was concerned, Jason had her beat by a large margin, and even though she knew her parents were rich, there was something different about Darren that made her not want to get on his bad side. The fact that he was dropped off in a Rolls Royce already told her everything she needed to know about him, so she was sure his family’s connections were very deep!
Jason moved back towards the dead bodies and told his wolves to drag them to the side. He’d take them back to Earth and show them to the Enforcers.
Ding!
A new notification suddenly popped up in Jason’s vision and Jason read it with pride.
——
The user has killed [4] Spidermonkey Guards
+280 Kill Points
——
The user has defeated the Boss of the Red Gate [Spidermonkey’s Coven].
+150 Kill Points
——
The user has successfully completed the Mission [Clear The Red Gate [Monkey’s Coven]] and has killed the Gate Boss.
+500 Kill Points
The user has gained the A rank artefact [Elemental Shield]
——
A new artefact fell into Jason’s hand, and this time it was a long black cloak with red markings all around it. Jason looked it over and saw that it was worn and slightly used, but there was a natural power pulsing out from it that told Jason that the cloak was still very powerful.
Jason used [Appraisal] on the cloak and he hummed at the results.
——
Elemental Shield
Rank: A
Durability: 100%
Boosts: +50% Reduction to all Elemental Attacks, +50% Increase in Stealth.
Description: A cloak that once belonged to a wandering dryad who was defeated by the previous owner of the Necromancer System. The cloak provides a 50% reduction in the damage taken from any Elemental Attack and also provides a decrease in the user’s presence to prevent enemy detection. The cloak’s durability depends on the frequency of elemental attacks; therefore, it will lose durability the more attacks it absorbs.
——
’Another useful artefact. There are a lot of elemental users back on Earth and some of the beasts also use elemental attacks. At least with this and the [Beginner’s Luck] ring, I can be sure they won’t catch me off guard.’
Jason put the cloak into his Alternate Dimension and he decided he would use it when he was diving into another gate later. Darren and Henry were still standing on the other side of the clearing and watching him curiously, and he could tell that they had a lot of questions on their minds that they wanted answered. But Jason wasn’t going to answer anything they asked and that was the end of it.
Jason sent out an order telling the wolves to drag the bodies of the Spidermonkeys closer so he could resurrect them, and the wolves began to do so as they were told. Jason waited for a few minutes so that they were all gathered before he put his hand towards the Spidermonkeys and called out.
"Resurrect."
DOON!
Another pulse of mana shot through the forest and made both Darren and Henry shiver from the sheer power they felt! A loud cry drew their attention from the front and they both struggled not to step back when an arm shot out from the body of one of the Spidermonkeys! The Spidermonkey dragged itself out from its former body and stumbled to its feet in front of Jason! The others slowly started to join the first one and Jason just watched calmly as the notification tab in front of him went crazy with new messages.
——

——
The user has gained [4] Pawn Rank II subordinates

+1% Agility
+1% Stamina
The skill [Tree Walking] has grown stronger.
——
The user has gained [1] Pawn Rank III Subordinate
+50 MP
+1% Agility
+0.5% Durability
The C Rank Skill [Tree Walking] has evolved into the B Rank skill [Wandering Spirit]
——
[Wandering Spirit: This skill allows the user to move across any surface by emitting a steady output of mana from his feet in order to stick to that surface. The user will be capable of moving across both vertical surfaces like walls and trees, as well as non-solid surfaces like water and quicksand.]
[This skill is not evolvable.]
——
’Wandering Spirit. It’s like waterwalking from that old show Naruto. At least I don’t have to worry about drowning anymore.’
Jason gained a small smile after reading the description of the new skills that he got. He closed the tab and then turned back to the Spidermonkeys. The monsters had finally dragged themselves out of their bodies, and Jason looked them over with a critical eye. The Gate Boss was standing in front of the rest of them, but there were also major changes in its appearance. All the other Spidermonkeys were around the same height as Jason, but this Boss was almost twice as large as Jason with bulking muscles and a mean-looking face. In a way, Jason believed that this boss had to be either a gorilla or an ape. There was no way a regular monkey would be this large!
One of the wolves trudged up to Jason with a small bag containing crystals as well as a strange-looking headpiece and Jason guessed that these were the Magic Crystals from the Spidermonkeys. Jason patted the wolf on the side as thanks and he took the crystals into his Alternate Dimension. He then picked up the headpiece and looked at it curiously. It was something like a half-crown that you wore on one side of your head and it had a bony structure to it. Jason used [Appraisal] and he looked at the descriptions.
——
Skull of the Spidermonkey
Rank: A
Durability: 100%
Boosts: +50% Stamina +100% Mental Strength
Description: A piece of the skull of the defeated Spidermonkey boss. This artifact grants the wearer a boost in mental fortitude and stamina, allowing them to perform complicated tasks and hand out commands to subordinates more easily. The skull cannot be worn with any other stamina-based artifact and its durability will reduce with time.
——
’It can’t be used with any other artifact?’
Jason frowned when he read this part of the description. Jason already had the [Stormheart] artifact that helped increase his stamina by a hundred percent and that artifact was an S Rank, so it was far more durable and also stronger than this one. It would be impossible for Jason to choose this artefact over that one, so Jason decided that he couldn’t use it.
Jason turned to Darren behind him and he called out to him before tossing the artefact his way! Darren stumbled to catch it and when he did, his eyes widened in awe as he looked it over.
"You’re giving this to me, boss!?"
"Your stamina is bullshit, so that’ll help boost it."
Darren’s smile became even larger as he exclaimed!
"Thank you, boss!"
