Chapter 155: Schrodinger’s Fog

Chapter 155: Schrodinger’s Fog

The five of them began to move through the forest at a quick pace. Jason remained in front as the vanguard since he had the highest defense and offense out of all of them. Darren provided damage control and support from the back since his drones were good for driving the spider monkeys to one part of the forest or another, and Henry was the long-range support that killed spidermonkeys far away so they didn’t overwhelm Jason.

Jason didn’t really need any support, but he appreciated the help from the others, and whenever Darren gave an enthusiastic laugh or shout after a successful battle, Jason found himself chuckling along.

The spidermonkey’s coven was filled with beasts, and Jason slowly lost count of just how many they had killed the longer the day went. The five of them went further into the forest as time passed, but they still hadn’t met anyone else for some time now.

"Hah~ I’m fucking tired."

Darren exclaimed from the side as he fell back on his ass. Henry was also breathing heavily with his hands on his knees, and both of them could tell that their mana was very low. Henry’s mana capacity was higher than Darren’s, but Henry had to use his mana to constantly shoot and resummon the water from his bottle. Darren’s mana was used only to tell his drones what to do, and the large magical crystal he put in the drones did most of the heavy lifting, so Darren’s mana was almost at the same level as Henry’s.

Jason, on the other hand, didn’t look any different from when he first came into the gate. He was still holding the sword in one hand, and the other hand was back in his pocket since he returned the dagger to his Alternate Dimension. His eyes looked around calmly, and it wasn’t until a few seconds later that he finally spoke.

"Where are the instructors?"

Both Darren and Henry froze once they heard that. Darren immediately started to look around curiously to see if he would spot Ricardo or Rosa, but no matter how much he looked around, he couldn’t see them. Henry frowned as he also tried to find them, but there was no one there! Did they get lost in the forest?

"I just saw them a few minutes ago. Did they get lost while we were fighting?"

Darren spoke up with a worried tone, and Jason raised his hand as he spread his senses around to see if he would find any sign of them.

[Predator’s Gaze] has been activated.

"Hey, what’s that smoke?"

Henry suddenly spoke up when he noticed a strange fog rolling out from the trees and coming towards them. The fog was black and mysterious, and it was moving far too quickly for them to do anything before it was right on top of them!

Darren cried out in shock when the world suddenly darkened into blackness, and Henry also felt fear fill his heart as he looked around and called out!

"Darren! Jason! Can you hear me!?"

There was no response from anyone, and Henry felt his heart rate spike immediately when he realized that he could barely hear himself! He couldn’t see anything, and he couldn’t hear anything either! It was almost like he had lost all his senses! What was going on!?

Jason was standing still a few meters away from Darren, but he couldn’t hear a single word that was being said. He looked around with his [Predator’s Gaze], and his eyes narrowed when he didn’t pick out anything around him. What the hell? Was the fog actually blocking his eyes?

Jason’s skill, [Predator’s Gaze], was a B Rank skill that allowed him to see through objects, see across far distances, and pierce through most illusions in his path. It was a very useful skill that would have been helpful against any enemy in a Red Gate. But that was the limit of its strength! The [Predator’s Gaze] was a B Rank skill that could only perform up to the level of a B Rank opponent, and at that moment, Jason was facing off against something that was higher than B Rank.

The Santos siblings were a very special pair of assassins.

They had both been born and raised in Mexico to abusive parents who sold them off the moment they discovered they had superpowers. They were sold to an agency known as the Night Crawlers, and this agency had developed multiple superhumans into trained killers that would sell their services and anonymity to the highest bidders.

Over the past nine years, the Santos twins had killed more than a hundred different people across the world. These people ranged from regular humans to superhumans who were in ranks as high as S. And the only way they were able to get away with these killings so perfectly and silently each time was because of the special ability that they both possessed.

The brother, Ricardo Santos, was an emitter-type superhuman whose special ability allowed him to emit a special form of black fog from his body. This black fog was made up of pure mana, and it gave Ricardo the power to create an alternate dimension separated from the real world. In this alternate dimension, there was no form of communication that worked and none of the five senses that humans possessed could be used either.

Touch, sight, hearing, smell, taste. They were all destroyed. The only people capable of feeling or seeing anything at all were Ricardo and those he allowed to use their senses. And this would remain true for as long as Ricardo maintained his dimension. Once a person was inside his fog dimension, there was no way to get out.

As a standalone ability, this was already very powerful. Ricardo was the quintessential assassin, and he had the freedom to do whatever he wanted to whoever he imprisoned in his dimension. But when you added Ricardo’s ability to the special Gift his sister possessed, then it became the perfect killing machine and granted them the ability to handle opponents that were ranked higher than them!

Rosa Santos had a Gift called Schrödinger. In the world of assassins, it was hailed as one of the most powerful abilities ever granted to a human, and although Rosa was not the sort of person to brag, she knew that her ability was very special.

Rosa’s Gift granted her the ability to raise her power level to match the power of anyone she targeted as an opponent, so long as that opponent was not looking at her. So, in simple terms, as long as Rosa manages to remain hidden from the sight of an opponent, it doesn’t matter how much stronger that opponent is than her. Her mana, strength, agility, durability, and stamina would all rise to perfectly match her opponent’s level, giving her the same amount of power as her opponent.

Rosa had trained for years on how to remain hidden and away from the spotlight because of this ability, and although it had given her a very introverted personality, it allowed her to move in and kill opponents before they even knew that she was there.

But when she was with her brother, Rosa didn’t need to worry about hiding from her opponent.

With Ricardo’s fog and Rosa’s Schrödinger ability, they were an unstoppable pair that could take on nearly anyone in their way. And they had worked together so many times over the years that it was already second nature for them to match each other perfectly.
