Chapter 443: FIRE ANNIHILATION BREATH
The atmosphere hissed.
The fire glowed within every bone of its skeleton, intensifying deeper and deeper, heat palpable even from a distance. The Bake-kujira opened its jaw and the roiling inferno sparked and heaved. Not quite out, charging and charging and charging. This was no ordinary fire—it was an apocalyptic fire breath, a last-ditch effort to obliterate everything in its path.
The locals had been accurate. The obscene amount of mana building was like a living rampaging island. It would kill everything and everyone.
From the boats, Astrid’s voice rang out. "Kill it! Kill it now!" She didn’t think, she simply struck and attacked greater. Quite frankly, she didn’t speak out of concern for anyone but simply for victory. For battle.
Kazi remained where he was, facing the danger of the Fire Annihilation Breath. His gaze lay locked on the Bake-kujira’s glowing maw. The calm that had carried him throughout the battle hadn’t wavered—not even now.
His left eye pulsed.
In the forecoming future, all he saw was death and destruction. The end for all, even himself. The Foresight ended. He returned to reality.
His hands lowered to his sides, fingers trembling faintly, but it wasn’t fear. It was something else entirely.
Kazi Hossain exhaled deeply.
He had been motionless on the outside but not the inside. From the very start, he had been acting like a conductor. At long last, he was going past that. He was fully, unequivocally going all out.
The bubble around the Bake-kujira, the shimmering prison of water, began to dissolve. With a wave of his hand, Kazi allowed it to collapse. Streams of water crashed, the boats getting pushed away.
This was going to be dangerous. With a second wave of his hand, he made sure everyone on the boats were carried away far, far away.
His focus was absolute, his body still as he planted his feet firmly on the ground. Slowly, his arms raised, palms facing the monster.
From the very beginning, he planned to use this. See, the Bake-kujira’s bones were almost as tough as Princess Otohime’s turtle shell. The monsters were ultimately different, however. The Bake-kujira was wrapped in its own bone. No flesh, no tissue, only bone. Organs were covered deep within the bone. There was no traditional weakness to exploit, unlike the turtle which had limbs of soft tissue to cut up and underbelly that hosted its organs. Princess Otohime ultimately hit a higher peak but the Bake-kujira was overall greater. More rounded.
Mana surged around Kazi, kicking up dirt and grass. The world crackled like static electricity. The storm clouds above, still hovering from his earlier attack, began to churn violently.
"Cast!" Kazi roared. The mana that had left his body, from his immediate vicinity to the clouds, all of it siphoned into him. "Activation!" A spark of lightning shot down from the heavens, striking the ground inches from his feet.
His hair turned a lighter shade of blue. Both eyes flickered in that same oceanic blue. Then it changed, one became a shade of blue light, the other of dark.
Suddenly, it all turned yellow. The lightning strikes, his hair, his samurai garbs—his very soul electrified into a glorious gold.
"Stabilize!" His hands clenched into fists and close to his fist. The overwhelming electric mana began to take form. Lightning crackled and danced around him. He lifted three fingers, the thumb, the index, and the middle finger. The gold in his hand rose and stretched double his own height.
"Balance!" The storm above responded, flashes of light joining the giant structure. The sheer force of his mana manipulation was enough to signal everyone to know not to chase back. Whatever was happening, it was caused by somebody on their side. Whatever was happening, stay to the sides on their boats and wait.
Even the reckless Astrid blinked rapidly and then yelped, "Nope, nope!" and ran along the spine to the tail. She had to flee—now. Otherwise, she was definitely going to die.
Splash!
Kurōtarō on the skull, and Mikinosuke and Iori on the ribs, they too made their jumps. Getting swallowed by the ocean would not be easy. The water was boiling from the heat of the Bake-kujira, from the attack it was preparing. But they knew it was better than to stay.
Kazi wished he could have helped them. However, this clash, this moment, it was now or never. He could not waste a millisecond and they already knew the consequences of what they were doing. Death was always possible.
Now though, he could fight with a full conscious. Astrid and the samurai was no longer an obstacle.
"Go, go, go!" Booker shooed at Jules and Matty to get on the Ibong Adarna. "Shit’s hitting the fan! Let’s go!"
Kazi took his time anyway. This was going to be his mightiest and well-timed attack yet. The same could be said for the Bake-kujira. If either messed up...
They wouldn’t. They couldn’t.
"Realize!" The blade truly began to form. Not a sword of steel, but a construct of pure golden lightning. It crackled and hissed as it extended outward, growing longer and longer until it reached an impossible violent size—two hundred feet of condensed yellow electricity.
"Cast! Overdrive!" Kazi’s chant culminated in an explosion of light as the blade roared to life, its edges sparking wildly.
The Bake-kujira hurried up. The pool of fire building within was about to spew out. A torrent of searing flames erupted from its maw. Kazi didn’t flinch. He had to time this right.
Wait.
Wait...
Now!
With a single step forward, he clenched his fist. The Gargantua Super Strike dissipated. Then he thrust his hand forward.
The epic blade of golden electricity rematerialized in an instant and struck.
Kazi had surged forward and shoved the Gargantua Super Strike into the open mouth of the Bake-kujira. Through the shoreline, through the bone, and into the stomach where the flames began, he perfectly struck whatever organ was responsible. The two hundred-foot blade of lightning pierced through the incoming flames, parting the inferno like a divine spear. The energy of the blade consumed the fire, neutralizing it. Carving and destroying the Bake-kujira’s innards.
Winning.
