Strongest Among the Heavens
Chapter 439: Sniper

Chapter 439: Sniper

"If anything goes wrong, then cast your cooperative spell and blow that shitter up," Booker said. "I’m fetching my sniper."

Try not to die in the meantime is what he was saying.

After all, without Booker, a huge margin of support would support. Although at this rate, with the momentum growing and the confidence building, they might not need him. Which was why he decided to go now.

’We’re at the two minute marker. According to the professor Kazi consulted, the plague takes a bit of build-up. Four or five minutes depending how strong it is.’

"Phew." Samantha gently set down the empty potion glass. This whole time, the boat they were on did not rock from the chaos of the waters nor did the long-range magic cease. See, this massive boat Booker was on was conjurated and transmuted. A group effort.

More importantly, there were two of them. One here in the east, one in the west. When one side took a break, the other made up for it. So now, once everybody was up and ready...

"Ring of Red: Pegasus Nemesis!" From her staff emerged a powerful, well-detailed phoenix of tight fires. Booker blinked, momentarily in awe, and watched as the pegasus kicked off and charged. It did not explode at contact, no, it melted through a group of monsters that almost reached the Japanese samurai of this era.

It went around. It was being controlled.

Samantha was smiling.

’This chick...there’s more to her than just being greedy.’

That meant he could rely on her to keep the fishermen and the weaker players safe.

Booker kicked himself into the air. Kick, kick, kick, he went back to grassy land. Closeby, he saw the flaming phoenix, Jules, Matty, and the meditating Kazi Hossain. They had relocated. Booker dropped down and ran over to his suitcase. One suitcase for bombs and another for his sniper.

Booker immediately cracked it open, albeit with a glance at Kazi. "Jesus."

Matty nodded, silently saying, "Tell me about it."

Kazi’s meditation was like nothing he had seen before. Somehow, he was emitting more heat than the literal firebird in their vicinity. Crackles of lightning and droplets of water. It made no sense. Or, perhaps it was because of the firebird he was heating up so much. He did not open his eyes. He was waiting for the next phoenix tear.

"The battle is going well so far," Matty remarked.

"Mhm." Booker was already on the floor, the sniper at the ready. The anti-magic bullet was already inserted.

"I didn’t know there were snipers in this world," Jules said.

"Know your history, snipers were first invented in the 1820s." Booker aimed while making the non-serious response. "This was made by a War World I veteran. Don’t underestimate our past or those that came before us."

"Y-yes, sir."

Aim. Finger ready...

’Target found.’

The organ responsible for the Bake-kujira’s echolocation. Kazi and Booker had theorized based on their experiences and knowledge. However, this was not Earth. Nothing in this world was like Earth. The animals, the people, everything was different so they had a professor theorized where it would be.

Distance: 1.3 kilometers away. Speed: Mach 3. Time for impact: 1.3 seconds.

He squeezed the trigger.

BANG!

The rifle roared. The anti-magic bullet tore through the air, a streak of black light that carved a path through the clear path.

The formations were planned in advance for a reason. They flanked the Bake-kujira for a reason. It was all for this, to keep it turning and moving, but still angled and close enough to keep it in his sniper’s range.

So far, only Astrid and her pink blade had pierced the bone of the Bake-kujira. Everything else was bouncing off like tiny prickles. It stung but ultimately it did not nothing to the thick, dense bone. According to the professor’s theorem, because it was a creature of pure bone, it compensated for its lack of muscles with immense density. They suspected that it contained something in its womb, either an egg or an engine that powered how weightless it was in the water. The womb and that uterus area was the strongest piece of bone from their estimations.

Second to only the skull where the echolocation organ was located—the BKEL as they labelled in their notes. Previously, Skullmask assumed this was their only way in. A whale’s blowhole was its nostril, located on top of its head and used for breathing. It opened when the whale surfaced to exhale and inhale air, releasing a spout of water vapor and warm air. It then closed tightly to keep water out while the whale dived.

That was how it was in real life. It was how the Bake-kujira functioned too. It didn’t look like it but it did have organs. The professor theorized that most of the organs were located within the skull and the haemal arches AKA the tail. After all, if the ribs were exposed and empty, where else did its organs go?

The bullet traveled. Warriors flinched from the thunderclap-like roar. Even the Bake-kujira seemed to sense it, its massive skull shifting slightly as if to locate the source of this unseen threat.

The bullet struck.

Instant. Catastrophic. Effective. The anti-magic round pierced the base of the Bake-kujira’s jaw and struck the processing unit organ, shattering the delicate echolocation organ in a burst of black light and fragments of bone.

Echolocation and magnetic sensing—both gone.

The leviathan let out a deafening roar, its skeletal frame arching violently as the organ’s destruction sent changes through its body. It was blinded. Its eyes were gone. It could no longer see.

The giant whale’s fins were huge and capable of causing huge waves. That was exactly what happened, all the men in the boats were carried away from the natural disaster of its panic. Monsters began to spew out in all directions.

It was getting angry. Anger at these feeble humans hurting it. Fear that it could no longer see. An instinct to strike back.
