Chapter 401: Husnü’s Contract

The Nebulous Bazaar was alive with its usual chaotic energy, a blend of haggling voices, the hum of magical artifacts, and the smoky smell of sizzling street food. Kazi walked through the crowd, a new long coat flowing with his steps, his eyes fixed on his destination: Husnü’s stall. The blacksmith regularly changed locations and carried his stall in a magical suitcase. Kazi saw it in action once. It was super cool.

’Ah, there he is.’

The blacksmith’s stall was situated in the furniture areas, a sight of its own with its weapons gleamed from the racks at the front desk and the tall wall. Husnü himself stood at the center of it all, arms crossed as usual. His beard, streaked with silver, was as thick as ever, and his stern face softened only slightly as he saw Kazi approach.

"Kazi," Husnü greeted. "I take it you’re serious about that offer?"

Kazi smiled and crossed his arms. "Are you?"

Husnü uncrossed his arms, his brow furrowed slightly as if measuring the weight of the decision he was about to make.

"One more time," Husnü began, "I want to be clear. What exactly does this job entail? What do you ultimately want from me?"

"I need blacksmiths capable of forging high-tier armor and weaponry, and I need them to constantly monitor and repair the gear I use. My weapons can’t afford to weaken. I also plan to hire a wandmaker soon to cover the arcane side of things."

"Hm. You sound like you have something in mind."

"Haha, I do, actually. No offence, Stormedge is great but I want something far stronger. Something that completely tailors for me. I have the rough schematics written. All that’s left is some knowledge and a touch of wisdom."

"AKA me and everyone else you wish to hire." Husnü nodded, getting Kazi to continue.

"You’ll have a fully equipped forge and the best materials I can provide. Your job is simple but critical: maintain the weapons, forge new ones, and ensure everything I carry is in peak condition at all times."

Not only for himself but for his friends too. He needed a system that supported him like a small guild would.

Husnü rubbed his chin thoughtfully, his calloused fingers brushing against his beard. "High-tier armor, weapons, constant repairs... and a wandmaker to boot. That’s no small task, but I’ve done bigger. You’re asking for expertise and that’s something I have in spades."

Kazi smiled, sensing the decision coming. ’Aaaand?’

"You’re a player. A privileged citizen. Some folks here have bad experiences with your kind. You fight, you hire us, and then leave. Hell, I had that blond bastard and his cronies from months ago that tried to rob me. But...you did save me." Husnü crossed his arms and wore a bright smile. "I think I’ll take a gamble and trust you, Kazi Hossain."

Nice! Great!

From his apron pocket, he pulled out a contract neatly rolled up in leather. "I took the liberty of drafting a contract with my own stipulations. It’s nothing outrageous—just fair terms for a job like this." He handed the contract to Kazi, who unrolled it and began reading.

"No issue."

White parchment with black text—a Geas of Service. Perfect.

The document was well-written and concise, outlining Husnü’s responsibilities, the equipment he’d need, and his stipulations for the job. There were no surprises—just a clear agreement that gave Husnü the autonomy to buy materials and make the decisions necessary to do his job right. Kazi’s eyes scanned the contract.

’Outside his salary, I will have to pay for the materials. Nothing will come from his pocket unless he deems it. Blah, blah, blah, pretty much everything I expected.’

"Fair terms," Kazi said with a nod. He produced a pen from within his coat and signed his name at the bottom of the document with a flourish. "It’s a deal."

The black text momentarily glowed. The Geas of Service was set.

Husnü grunted in approval as he took back the contract. "Don’t you have a copy stamp?"

"A what?"

"You really do have a lot to learn about this place. Players," the blacksmith said, rolling his eyes with a good-natured smile. "I don’t have it on me but it’s a magical item businessmen have that lets them create instant copies of contracts."

"Ohh, one for me, one for you. I get it."

A stamp that copied papers...sounded cool!

"No need to worry." Kazi tapped his temple. "I already memorized everything."

"Whatever you say." Husnü gave the contract a final look before rolling it up and tucking it away. "Looks like we’re in business, then."

Kazi reached into his coat again and pulled out a silver medallion, the same one he had acquired from the Alhambra Guardians’ Bank. He placed it on the table. "Here. This is the medallion to the personal dimension I’ve set up for you. I took the liberty to set up the basics."

Husnü took the medallion, weighing it in his hand. "A pocket dimension, huh?" he said, staring at it. "Never thought I’d have my own. What about the forge? Is it set up?"

Kazi grinned and dropped a pouch of gold coins, the heavy weight of it clinking. "The structure is built, but the forge itself isn’t complete yet. That’s where you come in."

Husnü blinked, momentarily confused. "Wait... what do you mean it’s not complete? I thought you said—"

"I said there would be a custom forge," Kazi interrupted. "But I never said anything about it being fully complete. You, my friend, should go talk to your friends and hook yourself up with the best forge possible."

Inhale, exhale, then a laugh. "...you know what? I have a few favours to call. I’ll be able to whip something special."

Kazi’s grin grew. "I wouldn’t trust anyone but you to pick out the right tools. That bag there is just a start. Get whatever you need, and I’ll cover it."

Husnü, arms crossed once again, gave a grunt of approval. "You’re putting a lot of trust in me, Kazi. I won’t disappoint you."

"If you are working on something that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you."

Husnü was going to be fine. Kazi already knew it.
