Chapter 337: Giant Anostos Bird

Chapter 337: Giant Anostos Bird

Anos wasn’t too keen on obeying him.

Although his will had been dominated and superseded by his own, his mind was not fully in tune with him. Anos flapped his wings fast and hard and soared a little too high for an obedient following of his orders.

Kazi could see. He could always see.

The fundamental difference between the Animal Tamer Class and Monster Tamer Class was a matter of perspective. There were those that saw the Anostos Bird as an animal. They would nurture it, groom it, and grow affectionate with it. The Monster Tamer was opposite and therefore functioned the opposite way. It meant seeing them as mere monsters, as weapons and tools. To dominate your will upon them and to train them rigorously.

The history books were not very sympathetic to those with the Monster Tamer Class. The great king Shaka kaSenzangakhona was said to have tamed an army of Lightning Birds by subjecting his supreme kingly will upon them. The special objective apparently was to kill them. Taming them prevented anyone from doing so.

Kazi was forced to a halt, a hand on his forehead. ’My head is throbbing. I thought I would be mentally stronger than this.’

The history books also mentioned the toll of dominating the will of other living creatures. During the war, many turned mad from trauma of the war and much of it was attributed to Monster Tamer Class.

Anos kept flying ahead. Kazi pushed past the obscene pain. This was twice as bad as a migraine. ’The books really weren’t exaggerating! Ngh!’

After hours of running through the desolate landscape of Anostos, Kazi finally came to a halt. Ahead was a colossal, solitary tree. The tree broke through the red fog with its own magical pressure, its immense trunk gnarled and twisted, its dark branches stretching high into the murky sky. The bark was an eerie shade of black, absorbing any light or fog that touched it, and the ground around it was littered with a dense layer of fallen leaves, dark as coal.

The tree’s sheer size was overwhelming. Its base was easily as wide as a house, and its canopy spread out like a vast, dark cloud. The leaves, almost black in color, rustled faintly in the stagnant air, creating a haunting melody that seemed to resonate with the very essence of Anostos.

Kazi’s left eye pulsed with a familiar, otherworldly sensation. He focused and witnessed the potential future. His vision revealed what would happen if he charged forward.

The outcome was hundreds of Anostos Birds bursting out the branches. Currently, they were motionless, their dark feathers blending seamlessly with the tree’s bark. But once he attacked, they would defend themselves and the tree to the bitter end.

Kazi would wipe them out with ease.

’Gregory mentioned that the tree also regrows so destroying it won’t do anything. The ecosystem will remain the same. Deep inside is the Giant Anostos Bird. The mini-boss...’

He realized they were all sleeping. The vision showed him their rhythmic breathing, the subtle rise and fall of their chests, and the occasional twitch of a claw or wing.

It was clear the tree had some unique properties, perhaps an aura that provided the birds with protection or sustenance. The sheer number of birds indicated that this was a critical point in their life cycle, a place they instinctively returned to generation after generation and regrew no matter how many Heavenly Games went by.

Time to kill them all.

Sorcerer’s Whim was an S-class and one of the Class Skills of the Sorcerer Class. A Class that Kazi should not have in his current state. The Sorcerer Class did not manifest in players at Class Four or Class Five.

Yet Kazi did. There was something different about him. His Ascension, whatever it was, was something that propelled him far beyond the capacity of a normal player. Gregory sensed it. The Eternal Emperor sensed it.

He searched through his memories and retrieved two key pieces of information. One, the Sorcerer’s Whim Skill.

[ Sorcerer’s Whims

Two, he recalled Marta’s magic circles. He glanced over them just once.

Just once was enough.

From the tip of his finger, he drew a circle and without letting go he went inside the large circle. He created numerous triangles and arrows, all pointing towards the exact center of the circle. These symbols represented the direction and focus of the spell, the symbol of an arrow with three lines at the front of it.

Kazi released the spell and the entire circle flared up, the central triangle emitting a powerful, concentrated burst of fire that would coalesced into the Super Fire Dart.

At least it was supposed to until it blew up in his face.

"Huh, it didn’t work. I got the shape correct, so why didn’t it...?" Kazi looked up, left eye pulsing. The dark tree was shaking. "Oh shoot."

Kazi leaped high into the air, conjuring a platform of mana beneath his feet to keep him suspended. From his vantage point, he quickly assessed the worm’s level—and heard shrieks in return.

Every single one of the Anostos Birds awoke with a cacophony of shrieks, their beady eyes glowing with fury. In a coordinated frenzy, they launched themselves at him.

"Equip."

Levels 27 through 30. Hundreds of them, charging at Kazi who stood with Stormedge. He waited, then leaped forward. Mastered Flow of Mana flowed through him and he struck. Like killing flies with a swatter, he blitzed through them.

’Super Spark Strike.’

Twelve, sixteen, nineteen...

Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash!

Forty-two, forty-seven, forty-nine. It didn’t matter, he hacked and slashed them. The kills were easy for him to rack up. He already calculated a rough estimate of the earned XP in his head. That was when he noticed it.

’My mana regen. It’s stopped.’

The world seemed to slow. Slash! Slash! Slash! The platform underneath his feet shrunk in size and he adjusted his Flow of Mana down to Advanced. His strikes were weaker.

’Not that it matters.’

Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash!

A minute later, he descended to the midsection of the dark tree. The Asostos Birds were wiped. Wings and limbs fell behind him. In the hole of the tree in front of him came a growl.

[ Warning! Mini Boss has awakened! ]

[ Warning! Mini Boss in vicinity! ]

The Giant Asostos Bird crawled out of the hole.

Kazi pointed his blade toward it.

"Fire Dart."
