Chapter 310: I

’Electro-step.’

The hunters were oblivious until it was too late. The first sign of trouble was a faint crackle from the activated skill, quickly followed by a sharp crack as Dasha’s Thunder Clap Palm hit the nearest hunter. The man was flung backward, his chest caved in from the force. Panic erupted among the hunters.

Too slow. He zipped past toward another hunter and slammed his palm to their ribcage. No flowing mana and inadequately worn armour. His gauntlets resonated, black in colour, and blasted the hunter away to their death.

"What the hell?!" one of the Monster Hunters shouted, drawing his sword. The others followed suit, weapons at the ready, but they couldn’t see their assailant. Thunder Clap Palm claimed its next victim, striking the back of the skull. The death was nearly instantaneous. Death was looming.

"But the law—"

"Can’t be a Class Eight entity! Must be anti-magic!"

Dasha moved like a ghost, his invisibility making him a deadly specter. He appeared behind another hunter, his Fire Fist slamming at his side and forcing him down.

’Hrm, he’s tougher than I thought.’

He expected the hunter to die. Instead, the hunter’s legs landed awkwardly and he swung where he assumed Dasha was.

"Sensors!"

"We have him locked!"

"It’s not anti-magic, it’s—!"

The archers were already coming into formations. Their eyes were sharp and so was their ability to detect magic. Though Sigurd’s Cloak masked his Qi, the same did not apply to skills. He appeared behind a hunter and clapped his hand together, the tip of his fingers converging to create a splash of black lightning.

’Thunder Clap—!’

"There!"

The attack struck and the hunter stumbled to his knees. Dasha hadn’t released his hands when a dozen twangs of arrows followed. His Qi Sense, honed as a perpetual radar, granted Dasha the nonsensical reaction to block the many arrows. He didn’t jump high in the air or duck—he activated Rocky Chin and swept everything aside with his arms. If he took damage, it was rapidly healed by his Internal Healing skill. The sheer timing of it was asinine. It wasn’t the fault of the hunters either; they were trained to fight against uncanny monsters.

But Dasha was more than a monster.

"Over there!" another hunter yelled, swinging his axe at the converging point of the blocked arrows. His weapon met only air.

Dasha slipped behind him and proceeded to execute a Blazing Fury Combo. Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! The final hit only served to stagger the hunter back. Dasha contemplated following up with a Storm Surge Kick but his Qi Sense detected the hunters were launching arrows again. He backed away and dodged, only to find himself right directly in the face of a hunter with a sword.

The slash narrowly hit him. He was lucky that his spatial awareness and tight-knitted demeanour granted him the flexibility to slip past it. Slash, slash! Dodge, dodge! His footwork was like the wind and impossible to hear. Another two swordsmen jumped in to assist. Dasha’s back dropped down and the allied blades almost nearly clashed. Spinning on his heels, he jumped and went back to where he began, the pathway from the entrance to the Grand Hall. The sensors did not know where he was and neither did anyone else.

Even if their senses were enhanced to the point of hearing a single pin drop, Dasha had already learned to hide his footsteps. By manipulating his Qi inwardly and outwardly as a cushion, he could cut off all sound. His heartbeat, his footsteps, his breathing, everything. It was a flow skill he developed in order to explore the Nebulous Bazaar while invisible and without catching the attention of the experienced players.

Standing still while donned in Sigurd’s Cloak, he was invisible in every sense of the word.

’Thirty hunters, all Class Four at the minimum.’

The guard at the entrance had died because he failed to activate any sort of Qi enhancement. These hunters were different. They were ready and aware. Even the hunter he ambushed with the Thunder Clap had recovered. Hurt and bleeding prosuely but alive and eager to get revenge. As Daughter said, these hunters would not die until their last breaths. Their loyalty to each other and their leader Raoul was strong.

’Ten sensors who are all archers, four healers, twelve lancers, and four swordsmen.’

Internal Healing, Qi Sense, Foundation Establishment, Sigurd’s Cloak, and a cushioning technique were necessary against three hunters. More were arriving. Their numbers doubled and the discussions rumbled.

"What’s happening!?"

"It’s an attack! Someone is here! Invisible but here!"

"The fuck...? Invisible? Sensors can’t find them?"

No point in hiding it any longer. Via their instincts and process of elimination, they’d find him. Dasha deactivated Tarnkappe and his form was revealed.

"There!"

Arrows were pulled back on bow strings. Spears were pointed threateningly and swordsmen went into their stances. They did not immediately pounce.

"That’s Jack’s mask...!"

"It has to be Jack."

"So he’s here."

If this was indeed Jack, caution was warranted. They needed back-up. Suddenly, there were fifty of them now. More swarmed in. Sixty.

’I figured a surprise attack would only be so effective. One minute and fifteen seconds. Ten seconds shorter than my estimation.’

Dasha stood there, alone and surrounded. One man against a pack of monster hunters. The gaping hole in his mask and the eye associated turned black.

"Jack the Ripper...I’m sure the Templars would pay a hefty bounty for you," one hunter commented.

"If we keep him alive, we can definitely sell him for millions," another hunter remarked. The murmurs continued. The thought to sell him off was agreed upon.

Such arrogance.

His index fingers and thumbs became conjoined, the former pointed upward and the latter downward. He brought the hand symbol in front of his navel, close to his lower Dantian.

"I am not the Ripper, Monsters Hunters." Dasha mended the Qi deep in his soul. "I...am the Professor."

For a moment, everything was silent. The hunters, the building, the very air seemed to hold its breath.

"————!"
