Chapter 300: MVPs

Chapter 300: MVPs

Hands were washed and clothes were cleaned. To get rid of infection was not only important but fundamental to preventing infections. Kazi and Sylvia had taken turns. Sylvia first, Kazi second. Kazi walked back into the player dwelling and saw how dedicated Sylvia was to protecting Pauline and Sarah. He smiled and put a hand on his hip.

"Sylvia, keep watching over them. In an hour, re-patch the wound."

All of a sudden, Sylvia lost all her confidence. "Uh, I have no clue what you did, Kazi. Do I look like I know what you did?"

"No need for it. Use a drop of alcohol to moisten a new cloth. Remove the strips, they’ve done their job. It’ll work as a bandage," he instructed.

"Alcohol?" Sylvia saluted him. "Got it, boss."

Kazi smiled, walked away, and went to Sarah. She didn’t need healing, just rest. From behind, he could hear Pauline’s breathing even out as well as the entry of a player.

"Good work," Jackson told Sylvia.

"No but?" Sylvia asked.

"No but. You did good work, kid."

"Kid? I am going to throw this bottle at you once I’m done with it."

Jackson chuckled. "I’ll be out of your hair then, missy."

The light of the sun creeped in before he could. Eyes went wide and they could all freely breathe.

"We’re the first ones!? Seriously!?" Sylvia exclaimed. "Nice!"

"There must have been a set number of monsters we had to kill," Kazi suggested. "For others, this mission might take weeks. With our traps and the way we killed the partridges, we probably killed them super fast."

"Ahh, I get it."

Sarah’s eyes flew open, followed with a groan.

"Good to see you awake, Sarah," Kazi greeted. It was then that Pauline and Kenzo began to stir. Everyone had levelled up, the boost supplying them the energy to wake up.

"Ugh..." Sarah rubbed her eyes and blinked as she read the screen in front of her. "Finally...! We won! My arms are killing me!"

"Go and sleep," Kazi said. "I’ll be keeping an eye out tonight."

Sarah smiled, hit her head on the wall, and went back to sleep.

On the other hand, Pauline pushed herself up. The skinny woman winced, barely being able to sit up straight, a hand on her torso. "We...did it...?" she muttered.

"Hell yeah we did!" Sylvia exclaimed. "And it was all because of you! If you didn’t jump forward like that, I wouldn’t have been able to kill those shits."

"I...I did what I had to," Pauline replied, despite the grin on her face.

"What you did deserves a long night of drinking!" Syliva patted her on the back. Pauline seemed so weak and frail that even a breeze might be able to knock her over, so Sylvia patted her with half the force of a breeze. "On me!"

Luckily for Sylvia and her bravado, there was no need to. They were the heroes here after all and heroes wer rewarded.

"Hello humans! How about a celebration!?" Couma and three other Yumboes had entered the dwelling with smiles. "We would love for you to join! Please!"

"Drinking and partying right after a fight?" Kazi crossed his arms, thinking about it.

"Don’t be a party shitter," said Jackson. "Let us rip ’em bucks from the bottles!"

"Please, please, please!" Sylvia shuffled on her knees to kneel before Kazi. She would have grabbed his legs too if not for his quick feet. "I HAVE to drink! I have to! It’s like not having water after a work out!"

Kazi couldn’t choose between grimacing and laughing out loud. "Lady, you have serious issues," he decided to say while shaking his head. At that moment, a second notification appeared.

[ Return to White Abyss? ]

"Oh. Oh..." Sylvia went into a thinking pose. "The Endless Bar has way better drinks though..."

"Aw, come on, people! There’s nothing like drinking in the wild!" Jackson declared. "Let’s get drunker than Cooter Brown, goddammit!"

"For once, I agree with you, Jacky-boy! Together now!"

Sylvia’s yelling was followed by small, teenage-angst sighs from Kenzo. Kazi leaned on the wall and crossed his arms, smiling.

"Together now for what?"

Everyone turned to the door. There he was—the man who slayed the Archer, Kibiwott. Kazi applauded him slowly and loudly. His clothes were drenched and his wounds were healed, courtesy of the Divine Miracle Rain. There was a reason Kazi cast it, its range managed to reach Kibiwott too.

Everyone was confused as to why Kazi was clapping. But then it hit them: Kibiwott did it! He killed the Archer!

They won everything there was to win!

"Well, I’ll be damned. The mothertrucker has arrived." Jackson took a sip of his drink while staring at him. "Took ya long enough."

The fire between them was almost as intense as their agitation.

"I did what I could."

"Looks it didn’t go as perfectly as you wanted."

"...no. No, it didn’t."

Meaning, Jackson had been proven correct in their little argument. Well, something like that anyway. Jackson took one last long sip of his alcohol.

"Eh. I still don’t like ya very much but...a drink’s a drink and the whole party is here!" Jackson went up to Kibiwott and put his cup-holding arm around his shoulder, dragging him inside. "Come on, come on! Let’s get started!"

Kibiwott looked completely lost but went with it anyway.

Kazi sent Sylvia a look saying, "Remember Pauline and don’t go overboard."

The furious nods did not indicate she listened. Kazi shook his head and walked out. ’I guess I’ll do it myself.’

Waiting outside, sitting on the ground and leaning as if sprawled on the miniature long tables was Remmy. He was the one that had found Kibiwott and helped him here. An archer setting off traps in direct combat took the most risks and ground. He did so, so much to guard the perimeter, to train Kibiwott, and to make up for Pauline’s mistakes. Consequently, he levelled up three times. After everything Remmy did, he was drained to the bone. Kazi went outside, plopped down beside him, and instead of asking how the job went, he handed a potion. Remmy wordlessly drank it.

"Wait, this is...juice?"

"Mango juice. Fresh fruits from India."

"Ohh."

"Good, right?"

"Brother, this is better than any stamina potion in the world."

A beat passed. Kazi asked, "Is Emma still patrolling?"

"Yep. Gave me a gum right before leaving to do it. She’s a cautious sister."

"Let me guess, you want to party?"

"Party, yes. Drink, no. I’m a sober kind of fun man."

Kazi patted him on the back, lightly pushing him. "Come on then. I’ll get Emma to join you. Everyone was the MVP today."

Truly, in Kazi’s eyes, they were. This was a team effort. Without one, the others could not have succeeded.
