Chapter 1311: Shattering The River Of Fate With One’s Fist
As it turned out, the Earthly Sovereign Bell’s light and chime weren’t the only things the old servant had to contend with. There was also the fist intent of Annihilation Hammer.
Ye Qing had used Annihilation Hammer when he punched the Earthly Sovereign Bell earlier. It just didn’t show because he was storing the fist intent within the Strange Artifact. Now that the time was right, he detonated it at the same time the Earthly Sovereign Bell unleashed its power. It was all to give the old servant a pleasant surprise.
No wind blew, and no sound resounded in this corner of the world. Both elements were annihilated by the terrible, devastating power as soon as they took form. That was why it appeared as if everything was still and silent even though every mountain, river and tree within a fifty-kilometer radius was crushed into pieces.
Unfortunately, despite being at the epicenter of such devastating power, the old servant remained perfectly unharmed.
Actually, that wasn’t wholly accurate. His fingers were mangled, and his sleeve had disintegrated into dust, revealing soft, tender skin that did not match his wizened face at all. His hairpin was also destroyed, so his gray hair hung loosely and messily around his head.
That was all though. No other part of his body was damaged.
“Not bad. You’ve given me another pleasant surprise...” The old servant smiled while the Earthly Sovereign Bell flew back into Ye Qing’s hand. “... and another reason to want you dead.”
“Fate Cutting!”
As soon as he said this, the image behind his back turned solid and swung its dagger once more.
The Fate Cutting Spell cut not one’s body or mind, but fate.
Once a person’s fate was cut, they would become utterly detached from the world and helpless. Their soul would naturally disintegrate into nothing, and they would not be able to reincarnate.
Knowing that there was nothing more he could do to save himself, Ye Qing sucked in a deep breath and shouted:
“Big sis, save me!”
The old servant scoffed, “Big sis? Not even your ancestor can save you now, boy.”
That was what he said, but he suddenly felt an inexplicable sense of unease.
Before he could puzzle out the reason though, a sweet, melodious voice suddenly replied beside his ears, “I disagree.”
The voice came from behind. It sounded so close it was as if the speaker was standing right behind him.
The old servant paled, but what really made the hair on his skin stand on end was the fact that his fate-cutting image suddenly changed targets and attacked him instead.
Right as he was about to resist, a tender hand touched his shoulder, and a gentle voice commanded, “Don’t move.”
The hand was unbelievably beautiful. He could barely see it out of the corner of his eye, but he could still tell that it was immaculate and fair like the prettiest, most exquisite jade in the entire world. He was transfixed despite himself.
The voice was no less beautiful. Ephemeral and flawless, it was tender but not bewitching, out of this world but not alone, cool but not icy. It sounded like the most wonderful and pleasant melody in the entire world.
That was why the old servant stopped moving as soon as he heard the command.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to move. He simply forgot to.
And so the fate cutting dagger easily severed his own thread of fate.
As soon as his thread of fate was cut, the old servant abruptly jolted awake and let out a bloodcurdling scream. Then, his body shriveled up and withered as if the passage of time ran differently from him. He dissolved into a pile of ash in just the blink of an eye.
“Come out. I know you’re still alive.”
It was at this moment the woman spoke again.
A spatial gap opened, and the old servant who should have disintegrated into ash stepped back into the world.
What’s going on?
The old servant could not understand what was happening. He was hiding until he heard the voice, and his body seemingly gained a mind of its own. Before he knew it, he had walked out of his hiding spot of his own accord.
It was as unusual as it was scary.
Before he could suppress his doubt and shock, his eyes grew unfocused, and his expression froze all of a sudden.
It was because he saw a woman. An indescribable woman.
She was indescribable not because she looked ugly or monstrous. On the contrary, she was indescribable because she was beautiful beyond words.
It was a kind of beauty that should only exist in one’s wildest imagination; that could not be described even if you scoured every adjective there was. It was a beauty seemingly composed of the most beautiful, wonderful, and delightful things in the world, impossible to describe with words and unreachable even by one’s imagination.
To see her was like witnessing the most gorgeous scenery in the entire world, unforgettable and impossible to look away from.
“Are you the one who tried to kill my younger brother?”
The woman smiled, and the world paled in shame and self-deprecation. “First, I want you to remove your arm.”
Without hesitation, the old servant ripped off his left arm and spilled his own blood everywhere.
“What did you...?”
The terrible pain jolted the old servant back to reality. He looked completely confused and speechless at his own inexplicable action.
Before the old servant could finish, the woman commanded again, “Next, you will dig out your own eye.”
Once again, the old servant discovered that he had lost control of himself. He raised his own right arm and dug out his own right eyeball.
“Who... Who are you?”
Bright red blood streamed down the old servant’s face and gave him the appearance of the ghoul, but the expression of terror peeking from behind the blood was utterly human.
The woman responded, “I am Murong Xianxian. I believe you have heard of me.”
“Murong Xianxian? The number one celestial of wulin and the crowning jewel of humanity from eight hundred years ago, Murong Xianxian?!”
The old servant exclaimed in shock before realizing something, “You should be dead! How are you still alive?”
“Someone wants me to live, so I still live.”
Murong Xianxian asked the old servant, “What about you? Do you want to live or die?”
“It’s true I am no match for you...”
The old servant said slowly, “But I don’t think you can stop me from leaving either!”
Suddenly, a river of epic proportions and profoundness appeared above his head.
The river looked both tangible and intangible. It was as if it both existed on this plane and not. It was so big that it spanned the entire sky.
A closer look would reveal that the water was, in fact, no water. They were really countless threads of fate. There were just so many of them that they blended into the form of a river.
That was why people called it the river of fate.
The next moment, the old servant transformed into a fish and dove into the river.
Right after that, the river of fate grew increasingly transparent and intangible.
“The river of fate? Don’t you see that your fate has already been determined? Death is your only destiny.”
Murong Xianxian’s smile remained even though the river of fate was disappearing rapidly. “Watch, Joyless. This is the true Annihilation Hammer!”
Murong Xianxian raised her hand and threw out a punch.
As soon as the fist intent entered the river, violent waves and bubbles immediately stirred its contents.
“Annihilate.”
Murong Xianxian pushed her punch forward another inch, and the all-annihilating fist intent spread across the entire river.
The next moment, the entire river of fate collapsed and disintegrated into primal chaos just like that.
“Erm... where’s the old servant?”
Ye Qing appeared next to Murong Xianxian and asked in a low voice.
“He’s dead, of course,” Murong Xianxian answered.
“You’re incredible, big sis!”
Ye Qing hurriedly paid her a compliment, “I’ve never heard of anyone shattering the river of fate and killing a Sage in one punch! It is an unprecedented feat that may never be surpassed even in the future!”
“You overrate me. The river of fate you see is but a figment of the real thing.”
Murong Xianxian smiled self-derisively. “You and I are but fishes before the true river of fate. Nothing and no one can escape its currents!”
