Strange Life of a Cat -
Chapter 427 - Chapter 427 Chapter 405 If Only There Were Superman_3
Chapter 427: Chapter 405: If Only There Were Superman_3 Chapter 427: Chapter 405: If Only There Were Superman_3 Zheng Tan chose a spot near a cage, where a monkey that had already died still lay inside, bathed in light that cast a large shadow near the ground on the shelter’s enclosure.
In such a small area, no one could hide, so after a quick look around, the man turned his attention back to the last red panda.
This red panda had been getting progressively better in the last two days, its mind clearer, sticking to the far side of the cage away from the other, but still trapped and unable to escape. Even though it sensed the danger, there was nothing it could do but shrink back, staring with terrified eyes.
The man was holding a gun, aiming it at the last red panda inside the cage and was about to pull the trigger when something occurred to him; he shouted something toward the outside of the tent. He was calling the name of his accomplice standing guard outside, but there was no response. Now, he couldn’t possibly open the tent flap to check things out, nor would he dare to look outside through the tent’s only window, fearing a sniper waiting for him to show his head and take the shot.
The man’s eyes flickered, and he lowered the gun, shifting his gaze from the last red panda to Pei Jie, who was crying so hard he was hiccupping inside the cage.
Pei Jie, seeing the man looking his way, paused his crying, then began to wail even louder. He was anxious and afraid; aside from crying, he didn’t know what else he could do, just hoping someone would come and deal with the gunman in front of him.
The man took out a key to unlock the cage and dragged Pei Jie out, holding him like one would a small chicken. Pei Jie’s meager strength was no match for the man’s iron-like grip.
Pei Jie punched with his hands and kicked with his feet, but having barely eaten anything for a day and after being locked up in the cage for so long, he felt weak and lacked strength, making his efforts almost futile. He even tried to bite, but unfortunately, the man was wearing gloves with metal pieces, making it impossible to bite through, and Pei Jie almost broke his own teeth in the process.
Without paying any mind to Pei Jie’s feeble attempts, the man held him in his grasp, more concerned about the people outside. He scanned the surroundings, making sure no one else had entered.
Something had definitely gone wrong outside, and although he didn’t know who it was or how they had silently taken down his comrades, he knew that if someone had silently dealt with four people, they could also threaten him. So, he wanted to use the boy to escape or, at the very least, exchange a life for a life.
Pei Jie, who had been crying with hiccups, was now just like the other children, crying and screaming for his parents.
Were his parents really outside? But why hadn’t they come in yet, or at least someone to negotiate? Why was there no movement?
If only there was really a Superman in this world.
Pei Jie thought.
Catching something in the corner of his eye, Pei Jie turned his head to look.
In the spot that the man had turned his back on, next to a cage, behind a not-so-big wooden box, a black silhouette was gradually emerging.
The camping lantern was still on, and Pei Jie’s eyes had long since adapted to the light here, and with no myopia, he could see clearly.
Ears, tails…
It was a cat.
A standing cat.
A standing, holding an automatic pencil, black cat.
Pei Jie was so shocked that his hiccups stopped, and his face, smeared with snot and tears from crying, showed a look of stunned disbelief. (To be continued.
