Chapter 1182: 20 Chapter Great Alliance Advances First (5)_3

A few captain commanders nodded in agreement.

"So we won’t rush into Green Valley Town," Major Felter waved his hand, "send another squad of light cavalry to Green Valley Town to ascertain the situation first. Captains, stay here. Centurions, go back and prepare. Unless something goes wrong, we’ll camp outside Green Valley Town tonight."

"Yes!"

Three light cavalrymen were dispatched to Green Valley Town, their figures swiftly riding through the wheat fields and branches, soon arriving beneath the high walls of Green Valley Town.

The gate rose, allowing the three cavalrymen inside.

Soon, the gate rose once again, and the three cavalrymen rushed out, galloping back to Major Felter’s temporary command center.

"Sir," the lead cavalryman, drenched in sweat and brimming with excitement, reported, "there are no enemies in Green Valley Town!"

Major Felter remained nonchalant, simply asking, "Did you see it with your own eyes?"

"I saw it with my own eyes!" The light cavalry squad leader beat his chest, swearing, "That old mayor said that up until yesterday, there was a group of rebels in Green Valley, but they all withdrew today during the day. They must have heard we were coming and got scared away!"

The captain commanders present exchanged glances.

Major Felter furrowed his brows, "Withdrew? To where?"

"Retreated to the Blue Silver Pass!" The light cavalry squad leader pointed to the distant Blue Silver Mountain, vividly recounting, "The old mayor said the rebels not only took away the supplies stored by the legion but also stripped the town’s food and fodder clean! The carts were all loaded high, one after another, taking the whole morning to finish leaving!"

"Stripped clean? Is that possible?" One captain laughed dismissively, "The ’old mayor’ has a lot of cunning thoughts, huh? Afraid we’ll come and strip their territory too."

"Perhaps the rebels really retreated?" Another captain optimistically asked, "Maybe they think they’re outnumbered? Or they plan to defend the Blue Silver Pass?"

Major Felter still remained noncommittal and continued to ask the light cavalrymen, "How many rebels are there?"

"Several hundred, maybe?" The light cavalry squad leader scratched his head, hesitantly saying, "The old mayor said he didn’t know, the rebels didn’t enter the town and didn’t let them into the rebel camp. But he said the camp wasn’t very big."

Major Felter rested his chin on his hand, deep in thought.

"Major," a captain stepped forward, volunteering, "why not let me take a Hundred-Men Squad to take a look? Whether it’s a pit of snakes or a den of beasts, we’ll know by stepping in."

Major Felter shook his head, then nodded, "Someone should go to take a look, but not you — choose a Centurion to go."

Soon, an honor officer, accompanied by a squad of soldiers, swaggered into Green Valley Town.

In no time, the honor officer sprinted out on horseback, triumphantly reporting to Major Felter, "Victory! Major! There are no enemies in the town! We’ve recaptured Green Valley Town without bloodshed!"

Felter’s brows knitted even tighter, pondering for a moment, and ordered the captain who just volunteered, "Take your men and garrison Green Valley. Remember, first search the town, then control the gate. Report to me immediately if anything arises."

"Yes!" The officer, a graduate of the Land Academy, saluted and left to fulfill his orders.

Soon, five Hundred-Men Squads broke away from the column and marched toward Green Valley on a grand scale.

Another captain hesitantly asked, "What about us then, Major?"

Major Felter pursed his lips, finally making a decision, "We won’t enter the town, we’ll camp outside."

He stood atop a mound, gazing around, finally choosing a good position, pointing with his horsewhip, "Convey the order to the entire army, we’ll camp there tonight!"

Meanwhile, right in the meadow Major Felter indicated with his horsewhip, Andre lay hidden amongst the weeds, cursing, "[Sea Blue curse words filled with fury]! Still not entering the town? Is that Alder Felter guy a turtle? A turtle?! [Sea Blue expletives in a fit of rage]!"

Unable to vent his anger, Andre glared with bloodshot eyes, looked around, grabbed a handful of grass, and bit down hard: "[Incoherent single-syllable curse]!"

Beside Andre, Winters turned his head to glance at the setting sun, squinting slightly, looking at the men waiting beside him, "Although the enemy hasn’t fully entered the ambush circle, waiting until it’s entirely dark is unfavorable for our reorganization. If Colonel Seber can’t hold back and acts prematurely, our arrangement is more likely to be wasted."

Andre instantly perked up, spitting out the grass stem in his mouth, becoming spirited.

"All units," Winters calmly ordered, "attack as planned."

...

On the road not far from Green Valley Town, Felter’s light cavalry, in the midst of marching, suddenly noticed their warhorses becoming restless.

Next, the soldiers fearfully saw billowing dense smoke sweeping through the hills and fields, goldened and ready for harvest, coming at them from both sides of the road.

Then came the towering flames.
