Chapter 1175: Chapter 18 The Great Alliance Moves Forward (3)_3
The direct superiors have spoken, so the junior officers didn’t say much more.
Colonel Bod didn’t speak; he was unfamiliar with the junior officers serving in the New Reclamation Legion, and those officers didn’t know him either.
Once the stable calmed down again and the officers brushed the grass off their pants, preparing to leave the camp of the New Army in Iron Peak County, Colonel Bod suddenly spoke: "Captain Montaigne."
"Present."
"Your unit does not need to follow the main forces to Bazenaur; Colonel Gessa, Colonel Skool, and I have other plans for you."

[Mirror Lake County]
[Green Valley Town]
Located by the Niuxi River, Green Valley Town is a picturesque, tranquil, and peaceful town, embraced by Qingmeng Mountain and Yunque Mountain as if by two extended arms. The valley is lush and verdant, hence the name "Green Valley."
Originating from Qingmeng Mountain, the Niuxi River provides abundant irrigation for agriculture, so the flat lands along both banks were early turned into farmland, making it one of the most densely populated areas by the New Reclamation People.
Moreover, because Green Valley Town has the only stone arch bridge over the Niuxi River, most caravans choose to cross here, making this town even more prosperous.
Though the Newly Reclaimed Land has been reconquered for less than thirty years, Green Valley Town has already become one of the wealthiest towns in the province.
A glance reveals the town in the center of the valley with blue walls and red tiles, pleasing to the eye.
However, for Winters, who wanted to capture Green Valley Town, the blue walls and red tiles meant that most buildings in the town were made of stone - which wasn’t a good thing.
Sanel evidently left troops stationed in Green Valley Town. When Winters conducted reconnaissance up close, he discovered that Green Valley Town was already in a state of alert: gates closed, no pedestrians, patrols on the walls, and sentries posted in the towers.
Circled around Green Valley Town’s high walls, Winters counted fourteen hundred-men squad flags and large banners, equating to two battalions and a thousand-man scale.
Green Valley Town’s high walls were not like those hastily constructed wooden fortifications in Shovel Port, but solid earth and stone structures.
The wealth accumulated by the town enabled it to enjoy a higher level of security, coupled with the defending force of over a thousand troops; it was truly a tough nut to crack.
Fortunately, Winters discovered another situation - Green Valley Town’s defensive direction was primarily towards the South Bank, rather than the North Shore where the New Army of Iron Peak County was located.
This was because Colonel Bod believed that when the main army was less than fifty kilometers from Maplestone City, stealth lost significance, and speed became the key to victory.
Thus, in the past two days, when the main forces of the Four Counties Allied Forces were marching toward Qingmeng Town along Big Horn River, the allied light cavalry conducted a large-scale feint outside of Maplestone City, creating the illusion that the Alliance was about to attack Maplestone City.
The defenders of Green Valley Town were evidently deceived by the actions of the light cavalry, mistakenly thinking that the attack would come from the south, unaware that the enemy had already crossed the Qingmeng Mountain pass and outflanked them.
Therefore, Winters chose the attack time at dusk, with the offensive starting from the South Bank by the second battalion secretly crossing from upstream, but the real main assault tasked to the hidden first and third battalions on the North Shore, with another battalion kept by Winters as reserve.

[Dusk]
[Outside Green Valley Town]
All units of the New Army in Iron Peak County had entered the attack positions, waiting for the signal cannon to fire.
Winters set the command center in a vineyard on the west side of the town; from the rooftop of the vineyard owner’s house, one could see the entire town at a glance.
While Winters closely observed the situation in Green Valley Town, Andre beside him sighed repeatedly.
"What’s wrong now?" Winters asked.
"What’s wrong?" Andre was extremely annoyed and gulped down a mouthful of wine, indignantly saying, "Bastards! They look down on us! They fight their big battles themselves, letting us clean up the aftermath!"
After saying this, Andre gulped down another mouthful. He had found this wine in the vineyard owner’s cellar - the vineyard owner had very willingly handed over the cellar key.
"Drink less," Winters said.
"Without numbing myself, what else could I do?" Andre sniffed: "Anyway, you don’t need me in this battle, right?"
"Who said that?" Winters took out the Nulan Clock, checking the time: "You’re my final reliance."
Andre sighed, leaning over the eaves to look out: "Tulin!"
Tulin, standing outside the house, answered promptly.
"Catch this!" Andre threw down the bottle.
Tulin caught the bottle in one hand and shouted joyfully: "Thank you, sir! Alexander! Come quickly! The lieutenant is giving us wine!"
"Lower your voice!" Andre scolded.
"Yes."
After dealing with the bottle, Andre crawled back to Winters’ side, still somewhat annoyed, asking: "Aren’t you angry? They’ve thrown us here; it’s clearly because they don’t trust us!"
"Then do you trust them?" Winters retorted: "If we followed the main forces to Bazenaur, wouldn’t you worry they might use us as cannon fodder, letting us get consumed together with Sanel’s troops?"
Andre said nothing.
Winters said calmly: "They don’t trust us and fear we’ll slack off or turncoat; we also cannot fully trust them. So Colonel Bod’s arrangement might not be the best method, but it’s the most feasible one - and very considerate of us."
...
After repeated discussions, Colonel Bod, Colonel Gessa, and Colonel Skool decided: to assign Winters’ troops independently to handle one direction, thus avoiding confusion in command systems and utilizing the initiative of Winters’ forces.
