Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic -
Chapter 881 - 881: In Pursuit of Power
The key from the year 5177 of the Common Era Calendar, although far removed from the time points of Shard's previous five keys, made this time adventure unexpectedly not difficult.
The Witch Empress he encountered was very understanding and did not distrust him just because he was male, and the deity he met was a Benevolent God, not facing situations like the "Vampire God".
Shard was very satisfied with this unexpectedly obtained key and even planned to find some time to inquire from Miss Witch Empress Violetta about the current situation of the material world, which might help him understand the changes of the Era.
Returning to the present time with such a good mood, Shard made breakfast before Luviya woke up. He fed Mia first, then woke the violet-eyed girl precisely at seven o'clock and began talking about his unexpected trip at the dining table:
"I've already decided that I'll compile a report on some of Miss Violetta's information and submit it to the Saint Byrons History Academy as a report for this time travel, so my practical academic credits can be further filled."
"If you want to fabricate a report, you can ask Dorothy for help. The key point now is, do you really plan to write a paper on higher mathematics yourself?"
Luviya sat at the dining table, handling the bacon Shard fried with a fork. She had just washed up a bit before sitting down, still showing a bit of the morning laziness that was rare to see on Luviya.
"Yes."
Shard pressed the bread into the soup with a spoon, the deity he encountered requested something innovative, meaning knowledge that had never appeared in this world. Thus, the Outlander's mind was full of knowledge meeting this condition.
The reason he chose mathematics was because even if the worlds were different, as long as people's logical thinking was basically the same, using the decimal system, and accepting the fundamental rule of 1+1=2, the mathematical knowledge from his homeland would not require much localization.
Of course, it would actually be simpler to bring out an interesting short story. But since it was a "crystal of wisdom," Shard was more inclined to knowledge in the fields of math, physics, and chemistry.
"I've already decided; I plan to explore the issue of 'imaginary numbers.' I heard from Grand Witch Miss Sylvia that the problem of imaginary numbers is already being researched. And according to historical data, the mathematical achievements at the end of the Fifth Era were actually inferior to contemporary ones. The issue of imaginary numbers is very broad, and I plan to use a formula to connect trigonometric functions with exponential functions of complex variables, this is an important bridge that connects trigonometric functions and exponential functions, in number theory and topology..."
Shard spoke passionately, his thoughts were very clear.
Luviya raised an eyebrow:
"The year 5177 of the Fifth Era is nearly two thousand years away from our time, but I believe that deity can understand your paper. I just want to ask, where did you learn all this knowledge?"
She didn't even give Shard a chance to explain:
"Shard, I know you've experienced many things, some of which you can't even tell me about. Your wisdom, your experience probably all come from those things. But you must realize, the Great One can enlighten your wisdom, but it will also put more and more weight on your soul. Sometimes, you need to distance yourself from those things, after all, we are just mortals."
Luviya probably misunderstood the origin of Shard's knowledge. Shard pursed his lips, reached out and held her hand. Luviya smiled:
"Of course, I am also very satisfied with this you. A gentleman with secrets is always very attractive. Not to mention, the character and behavior you display, even those young nobles can't compare to you. You have a certain... natural superiority."
"What does that mean?"
Shard asked, looking up at Luviya. The violet-eyed girl thought for a moment and pointed to the cat eating breakfast nearby:
"It's like your cat when it faces other cats... hmm, how to say."
She couldn't give a better explanation:
"Shard, you are different."
She leaned over and kissed Shard lightly:
"No matter how handsome you are, I don't think you managed to get a Princess into bed just because of your looks. Shard Suren Hamilton, I must admit, your soul is equally very attractive."
Shard showed an embarrassed expression, this kind of straightforward compliment was rare from Luviya. He petted the cat, wanting to compliment Luviya in return, but she had already ended the topic, cheerfully saying:
"Today's Sunday, what are your plans? Are you going to Dawn Chapel for worship?"
"No, I have to go to Coldwater Port and then to Huntington."
Today was not only the day to follow Professor Drake's clues and visit the "Lake Goddess," but it was also the day for Shard to exchange for the stone tablet with Mr. Edmund.
Early winter in Coldwater Port was still bustling with life. The seasonal changes in this harbor city seemed to only affect people's clothing, which kept cycling. The name "Coldwater Port" came from the fact that the local harbor only got cold in winter but did not freeze. As the most important port on the Draleon West Coast, it remained bustling in winter.
Shard took a carriage to the lighthouse on the sea cliff and informed the old lighthouse keeper about the meaning of the "Whisper" in the corresponding text of "Immortality Magic".
"The inheritor of the Sage must solve the puzzle of wisdom; when fate comes, the Keeper of Secrets who holds the puzzle will wait for the Chosen One, that is the five trials."
The segments about the "Chosen of Wisdom and Knowledge" made the old man frown:
"Keeper of Secrets? What is this? Could it be some power left by the Ancient God to test the Chosen? But the rituals of the previous three Chosen didn't mention any examiners."
He discussed these two sentences with Shard in detail. Although Shard did not bring the manuscript, the old man still believed the information Shard provided. However, the third part of the stone tablet related to Time Perception had to be transported from elsewhere, so it would take until next week to reach Shard.
"No problem, I can wait. After all, I haven't found the remaining two-thirds yet. Those two pieces are most likely held by Saint Byrons and the Apna Library, which are not easily obtainable."
Shard had great faith in the "Guiding Light Hermitage," so he didn't even need a receipt.
Before leaving, he didn't forget to take out the "spoils of war" from the Rothschild Mansion last night, the Scribe Level Relic [Immortal Snake Shedding]. This snake skin was indeed peculiar, and Shard did not know its containment conditions, so he placed it in the "God's Gift Box" after returning home yesterday.
He didn't plan to keep this relic as it didn't significantly enhance his combat power.
He first explained to Mr. Edmund that the snake skin was related to the "Pantanal Voodoo Society" and expressed his intention to sell the relic but hoped to acquire a relic related to "power" to help him obtain the "Power" Spirit Rune.
"Power" was Shard's final Spirit Rune for the Sublimation Incantation "Space-Time Echo Tremor Slumbering Power." Before this, Shard had already applied to the Academy for the book "Vanished Race: Power of the Dragon" to help him obtain the Rune. That book was due to arrive this Saturday, but Shard did not want to rely solely on one source.
The "Power" Spirit Rune was one of the most common, and there were many relics enhancing the perception of power. After a brief discussion, Mr. Edmund gave Shard an additional 20 pounds and traded the Poet-Level Relic (5th level) [Impure Dragon Blood] for the Scribe Level Relic (4th level) [Immortal Snake Shedding].
[Impure Dragon Blood]was a tear-shaped ruby pendant that could enhance one's power while worn; its negative trait was similar to[Higgs Dragonhead Stone], with a high probability of causing Dragon Transformation after long-term wear.
Actually, Mr. Edmund provided three choices in total. Besides[Dragon Blood], there were the Scribe Level Relic[Replica of the Giant King's Ring]—which was larger than a choker and could be used to train Mia for hoop jumping; and the Poet Level Relic[Wrathful Skull of the Strongman]—an actual human skull.
Shard chose[Impure Dragon Blood]because he had already acquired the sorcery[Power of the Red Dragon]from saving the Red Dragon Witch, making it easier to obtain the Spirit Rune through relics related to "dragon" and "power".
With constant battles over the past half year and multiple encounters with divine powers, Shard felt he was on the verge of grasping the[Power]Spirit Rune.
But he wondered what the last Spirit Rune for the Sublimation Incantation would be after miracles[Echo], desecration[Tremor], and enlightenment[Sleeping Princess].
"I hope it's Whisper."
[Why?]
"It's a mild obsessive-compulsive disorder, no particular reason."
And Shard heard "her" laughter.
Shard did not stay long in Coldwater Port and arrived in Huntington City by ten in the morning.
Early winter in Huntington City had less rain and snow, and the weather outside the city seemed sunny every day.
After emerging from the underground wine cellar of the White Valley Vineyard, Shard didn't immediately see Mr. Benhart this time. The Viscount of the Southern Nation had his work and life. Confirming that he had all important items including the[Night Watchman], Shard departed from the vineyard, riding his horse to the city.
