Chapter 977: Section 637: Dream Light Years (Part 2)_2

Hmm, not the child of my own Orc girl, then who could it be?

Malin flipped the ear hidden beneath her long hair—round; walked to the mirror and lifted an eyelid—deep black pupils; then begrudgingly opened her mouth—neat human teeth.

Finally, Malin propped her chest up slightly.

...Same as Nanaqi, the chest gave it all it had.

With such regret, Malin noticed the photo frame on the nearby table. Inside was a large family portrait. Sitting in the middle was an elderly lady, the spot beside her vacant, and behind her stood a gathering of adults. These individuals, along with those standing further behind at greater heights, made up the backbone of the family. By her feet, a throng of younglings sat crowded together.

There was a small line of text on the photograph.

2015, Taken in Copenhagen.

Copenhagen? Lulu?

Malin felt like she might be the happiest ancestor in the world, having witnessed so many of her future descendants standing before her. Thinking this, Malin promptly turned to the mirror again. Staring at the girl in the reflection smiling at her, she suddenly recognized the distinct raised brows that marked members of the Hagelberry family. Her gaze then shifted to the ID card on the table.

Peru Haus Hagelberry, age... 28?

After glancing one more time at the daunting steepness of her chest and the faint male characteristics almost blending into her skin tone, Malin deliberated deeply and pulled her waistband down.

"Miss, your blood sugar levels are perfectly normal right now. Please don’t do anything foolish, alright?" The AI’s voice shattered a young girl’s dreams and crushed an ancestor’s lingering regrets.

Really, child, your chest did its best. It’s your ancestor’s blood failing to give you something to be proud of. I apologize to you, child.

Malin sighed as she donned her clothes and pulled on a down jacket.

Forget it, let’s head out and see what’s happening; it’s vacation anyway.

Malin thought about her destination while pushing open the door.

Outside was a shared space bustling with conversations. Groups of children dashed past, and someone greeted Malin: "Miss Peru, you’re up early today."

Malin didn’t know this woman in the slightest but smiled and nodded: "Yes, I’m heading out for a stroll."

The woman wanted to say more, but a child rushed to her side and successfully diverted her attention, letting Malin quickly move down the staircase. Following the signs on the wall, she found the elevator, already filled with several young men and women. Seeing Malin enter, they squeezed themselves into a corner.

The elevator began descending with Malin and the others inside. It stopped several times en route, but upon seeing Malin, anyone looking to enter would turn abruptly and leave.

Malin found this curious yet had no idea how to explain it, this continued until the elevator reached the parking level of the high-rise apartment complex. Malin glanced at the car keys in her pocket, stepped through the crowd making way for her, and turned to see the now sardine-packed elevator full of men and women compressed tightly together.

These sardines squeezed even closer when they noticed Malin looking their way.

What’s up with these folks... Are they that terrified of the body Malin currently inhabits?

Thinking this, Malin extended her hand. Spiritual Energy stirred at her command and formed a sword in her hand.

The sardines either gasped sharply or screamed, managing to create a newfound space between Malin and themselves in the elevator.

Dispersing the Psychic Sword, Malin smiled, turned, and pressed a button on the car key. A vehicle from the parked lot emerged, weaving like a sleek serpent amidst stationary cars, ultimately stopping before Malin.

"Dear master, why just stand there? Get in! Let’s go wild!"

But seriously, what’s with this kiddie-sized convertible that looks like a bathtub?

Although grumbling inwardly, considering the massive vehicles parked nearby—Malin figured she’d barely see the road if she drove one. Forget it, Malin, at least this child has a heart of gold. Better to ride out in this toy-like car and be treated like a kid than sit in a giant vehicle crushing roadside stalls around every corner.

Sighing, Malin entered the driver’s seat, and the car’s AI automatically started the vehicle: "Honestly, are we heading to that Thanan dojo on Thirteenth Avenue again today?"

"What for?" Malin asked casually, resting her left hand on the door and her right on the steering wheel, noting meanwhile the badge dangling from the car’s instrument panel... Carterburg Mobile Police Strike Team, Second Unit Commander, Peru Haus Hagelberry, First-Class Superintendent.

"Of course to throw hands! Yesterday your no-good cheating man said he wanted to break up. You hung him up at Second Avenue Square and beat him half the day, remember? When you got home, you even vowed to beat the crap out of him again after sleeping it off!" The vehicle AI thoughtfully added: "No need to worry, you put electronic shackles on him yesterday. He’s still waiting for the second round of your iron fist judgment at his dojo."

Huh? My descendant, the adorable and charming Peru Haus Hagelberry, age 28, a proper, legal beauty... got dumped?

Malin didn’t know how to react, but the gloom on her face prompted the AI to offer fresh consolation: "Master, don’t feel down. Just a guy with no taste—sure, he’s the forty-first man you’ve dated, but hey, there are so many men in this world. Surely one of them will meet your standards."

Wait, who’s the human here again?

Malin chuckled helplessly: "Let’s just let him go."

Though Malin was controlling this child’s actions, considering her career and status, it didn’t seem likely she’d actually kill the tasteless man anyway. Best to let it be.

"Let him go? What if he tries to run?"

"You said it yourself, there are so many men in the world. I’ll surely meet one who suits me, right?" Malin replied, scanning the scenery outside. The cityscape was utterly unrecognizable as Carterburg, yet this era was undeniably beautiful.

"Alright, as per your command, the electronic shackles on Mamar Rewo Gaiate have been removed. His digital departure permit is completed and processed. He’ll leave Carterburg within two hours."

The AI’s words left Malin momentarily stunned—Mamar?

The child Malin once inhabited?

Interesting. How did they get involved? Thinking of their breakup, it must’ve been Mamar realizing their families shared a common ancestor and deciding to end things.

The thought softened Malin’s heart further... Ah, perhaps this was simply one person meeting the wrong lover at the wrong time.

As an ancestor, Malin wondered if she should leave something behind for this child, but her pondering was interrupted by an incoming communication. The vehicle AI perceptively opened the channel.

"Miss Peru, you’re really something! Do you know you nearly caused an international incident yesterday?!" A virtual video channel displayed a giant officer glaring with his massive eyes at Malin.

"He didn’t press charges, did he?" Malin replied with a smile, half bluff and half brimming with confidence.

"Exactly! You fell in love like a whirlwind, then broke up just as quickly, not even finishing your vacation." The giant glanced at a report handed to him: "Dammit, it’s a Gaiate family forgiveness letter. How is someone like you so lucky? Is it because you’re part of the charmed Hagelberry lineage or what?!"

"Alright then, I’m hanging up." Malin was desperate to end the video, lest her secrets get exposed.

"Fair enough, but remember, when you’re back in three days, no more drinking. Yesterday, when you chugged twenty bottles of Emperor Goethe on video, I honestly thought you’d die of alcohol poisoning." Malin’s superior concluded with a sigh: "Next time, let’s pick another poor soul from the squad for this kind of mess."

With that, the commander ended the call first.

Malin sat silently for a moment, unsure what all that had meant.

The AI didn’t comment either. Eventually, Malin instructed it to pull into a temporary parking zone. She stepped out, told the AI to go find another spot for itself, then approached a nearby vendor. After swiping her card, she grabbed a bottle of hot drink and nestled herself in a sheltered corner, taking a forceful sip.

For no apparent reason, she kind of wanted to punch the giant’s nose earlier.

Also, this drink... so bland.
