Chapter 846: Section 562: Walking with You (Part 4)
The carriage had not yet come to a stop when Malin already jumped down from it, tossing a bottle of World Tree fruit potion to the familiar old coachman and waved goodbye amidst his words of gratitude.
The guard opened the door for Malin, and as he entered the hall, Malin noticed Margaret sitting at the counter, smiling as he approached the lady and gave a noble’s greeting: "Good afternoon, Mrs. Colin."
"My dear Malin, don’t be so cold, I heard that you went to the Church of Justice?" The lady, who now appeared much more mature and was pregnant with her third child, responded as Malin nodded. "Yes, I went to see the children, the Church of Justice is doing quite well."
Malin took off his gloves and stuffed them into his coat pocket, then pulled out a rose formed from elements from the same pocket and handed it to Margaret: "Sorry, I couldn’t prepare a proper gift for you."
"Don’t say that, I’ve heard about what you went through in the North, it was really dangerous, Malin." Smiling, the lady accepted the flower and placed it in a small vase before the counter, she then looked at Malin with a worried face and said, "For my sister and her sisters, Malin, please don’t put yourself in danger, alright?"
"I’ll try my best." Malin did not answer directly, showing an apologetic smile towards Margaret.
How could this be possible, Malin understood Margaret’s concerns; his lovers were indeed waiting for him at home, but on the battlefield, thousands of his peers were waiting for him to lead them from one victory to another, to create yet another victory.
Thus, Malin could only respond this way, and Margaret understood this too, so to Malin’s avoidance of the topic, she could only sigh lightly, "You men, always so reckless, aren’t you?"
"For the children to live in a safe world, we adults must face the dangers, Margaret," Malin replied, looking at her. "Just like when you risked your life for Colin, we have no other choice, right?"
Accepting Malin’s explanation, the lady behind the counter finally consented: "My father used to say the same thing, Malin... Anyway, for my sister and her sisters, please take care of yourself, will you?"
She looked somewhat weary, and in response, Malin cast a calming spell formation towards Margaret: "I will, don’t worry."
Her perception as a caster from the Church did not miss his subtle gesture; she raised her head and smiled at Malin: "Thank you."
"No need to thank me, Margaret, facing the Tide of the Dead, we are all struggling to survive. I want to help more people live, so, let’s both persevere." As Malin said this, he noticed a little boy running over, the child crawled through the gap under the counter and jumped into Margaret’s arms.
"Mommy," he called out.
"I’ll head off first." Malin smiled and bid farewell to Margaret, then turned and walked down the corridor, arriving at its end and passing through the door the guard opened for him, Malin left through the side door of the side hall into the grand hall, gazing up at the tower that once belonged to the old Hoffman.
"Oh, Malin, why are you back."
This puzzled remark from the side made Malin turn around to see his former battle instructor Karlmo, the former half-human lady now a mother of four children, still serving as an instructor, looking as if she was still in the middle of a busy workday.
Ah, hello, working people.
Malin thought spontaneously.
Seeing it was really Malin, the lady laughed, signaling her assistant to continue running laps with the children, then jogged over to Malin’s side: "My goodness, the kid who used to be shorter than me is now so tall."
"Humans do grow up, and I’m still a mixed-blood Frost Giant." Malin smiled as he grasped the hand she extended and gently shook his head: "Good afternoon, Instructor Karlmo, it’s great to see you."
"You really are a thoughtful gentleman, Malin, are you interested in seeing the children’s upcoming tests?" The half-human lady before him issued the invitation.
Mrs. Karlmo certainly knew why Malin was here, and Malin thought her thoughtfulness was touching.
"Do you need me to come down and guide them a bit?" Thinking this, Malin asked with a smile.
"That won’t do, you’re too strong, you’d be too dangerous for the new kids." The lady declined the idea of Malin entering the field.
Ah, the days of beating up the older students seemed like yesterday, and now I’ve been a graduate for quite a while, thinking about it, what kind of hero does a legendary figure make, fighting newcomers.
Well, better to watch from below.
Having made up his mind, Malin could only sit by the field, watching the newcomers complete their first test of their lives.
"How did it go?" When the last child had finished his test, Mrs. Karlmo came up to Malin and asked.
"Much stronger than when I took my test... The kids did well too... Looks like, the Tide of the Dead is really coming, huh." Malin looked at the children and sighed.
As the Tide of the Dead approached, and the whole world fell under the influence of the Subspace, the innate abilities of the newly born children also became much stronger, Malin had just seen several children intuitively use some spell formations tricks.
