Chapter 841: Section 558: North (Raid)_3
Next second, a ghoul emerged from the tunnel.
"I see, Your Excellency. I’m also under attack by these creatures. They fill my entire detection range. I’m afraid I won’t make it."
"No worries, hold your line, Ails."
After Malin spoke, he heard the news from Jason’s side. Communication with the artillery position had been established, now waiting for coordinates.
"Besides Hill 9, the artillery fire will cover all coordinates of the first defense line." Seeing demons completely engulf the first defensive line, Malin had no choice but to issue this order—the first line definitely had no survivors left, these Chaos Demons would devour any soldier on the first line alive.
After speaking, Malin looked towards Hill 9, where he could still see human soldiers. The Chaos’ assaulting efforts were minimal since Malin had stationed several machine-gun nests and light mortar teams there, along with two Dwarven sapper platoons equipped with heavy shotguns and flamethrowers augmented with Holy Oil, who occasionally ignited whole ranks of Chaos Demons with fire dragons spewing from the high ground.
The first round of artillery fire arrived, temporarily halting the Chaos Demons’ assault, but soon, within the visual range of spiritual energy detection, more Chaos appeared.
Eleven and Seventeen kept firing, the shell casings at their feet had piled up into a small hill, and the ammunition boxes on their backs were already giving empty chamber alarms.
The combat mages on aerial patrol dropped incendiary bombs, but soon the fire walls were breached. These Chaos Demons had high resistance to ordinary flames. Malin even saw a combat mage, who flew too low, dragged to the ground by a leaping demon, but finally, the mage chose to ignite his soul and upon crashing into the earth, a massive arcane explosion ignited the area.
"I should ask Electrum, generally how many of these creatures are there." Malin muttered while rolling up his sleeves, he took out a dagger and cut a wound on his arm.
Not enough.
A second wound was cut.
Still not enough.
Malin made a third cut.
The heavy blood loss turned Malin’s face pale, but similarly, an overload of elements was gathering.
Eventually, the elements gathered into a tiny Mars in front of Malin.
The combat mages had already begun to retreat to the sides, the Chaos were getting closer to the second line of defense, but the soldiers who surged forward did not retreat; some of them jumped out of the trenches, others either standing or squatting continued shooting at the Chaos.
Malin marked down the coordinates for his attack
The Mars started to rise.
Almost everyone capable of using Spell Formation noticed this Mars.
Chaos did too, a squad of long-limbed demons in their ranks immediately leapt over the defensive line, directly assaulting Malin who was channeling the Spell Formation.
Malin watched the Mars ascend into the sky.
The Chaos drew closer to Malin, a squad of soldiers rushed over, led by Link, the young man with an injured hand wielding a Revolver, and his guards stood firmly in front of him.
These young lives, driven by their innate loyalty and sense of mission, were brought into mortal danger; their shooting brought down several Chaos, but more and more long-legged Chaos leaped directly from the void following their companions’ lead.
"Fix bayonets!" Svenson’s younger brother shouted as he was the first to discard his empty revolver and draw his longsword from its sheath.
Then he saw Malin approaching.
"Your Excellency!" He stood in front of Malin but was directly pushed aside by him.
Raising his still-bleeding left hand, Malin pushed forward with his palm.
A wall made of Spiritual Energy began to advance, striking the Chaos that could not be directly observed; as they were shattered into pieces, the sky lit up.
The next second, a thin white line fell from the sky.
Following that, a column of light descended along with the white line, Spiritual Energy fell like a tidal wave, completely igniting all the Chaos on the battlefield, those who had already reached the second line of defense ultimately fell into the trenches in a burning state, posing no threat as they couldn’t even harm the humans nearby, and were incinerated into ash amidst the flames.
At this time, the World Tree Saplings had already covered the wound on Malin’s wrist. Their master took a deep breath and then sat down on the ground.
"Your Excellency, is this the extent of your strength?" Seeing all the Chaos on the battlefield ignited, Link asked.
"Nameless aided me." Malin spoke truthfully—he was ready to detonate the entire Spiritual Energy Pool with the help of Jason to pull down a decommissioned satellite.
However, before the satellite was guided down, the Holy Light of Nameless was instead guided down, and that’s why Malin, without needing to guide it further, had the opportunity to flatten those Chaos Demons trying to attack him into a pulp.
With the descent of the Holy Light, this raiding Chaos Legion was completely annihilated. Malin supposed there might be something else from the rear forces, but considering the power comparison, these Sinspawn demons would likely choose to retreat—continuing to fight would only be humbling themselves. After all, the Holy Light had already descended, and these Chaos had fought against Nameless for many years, they should know what this was, hence Malin eventually did not wait for a follow-up attack from Chaos.
Letting Svenson’s lad tally the casualties, Malin took out a potion and drank it down; the situation from excessive blood loss finally eased a bit, then the emptiness of the drained Spiritual Energy Pool made Malin feel an abnormal hunger.
Fortunately, there was jerky in his bag, and Malin stuffed several pieces into his mouth in one go, finally feeling a bit better.
"Your Excellency, what were you summoning just now?" Tower Master Quentin came over at this time, looking at Malin with a face full of horror—as a Mage compared to the less knowledgeable Winter Wolf Knight, Quentin was clued into Malin’s guidance.
"A large military satellite from before the Great Destruction Era, it’s decommissioned, I was planning to pull it down and smash it on the ground, using the resulting shockwave and damage to completely eliminate this batch of Chaos." Malin shared his idea, and then he introduced Nameless’s assisting punch.
Tower Master Quentin finally wiped his forehead, thanked the Lord of Justice, and then also sat down in front of Malin: "Your Excellency, have you calculated how many collateral damages this would cause?"
"I have calculated, there would be at least two thousand casualties on the second line of defense if the guidance goes smoothly. If delayed by about thirty seconds, there would be no casualties." Facing tens of thousands of Chaos demons, Malin had no time to calculate the coordinates without damage; Jason had done his best—this was still the feasible method he told Malin.
"...There will basically be a delay, right?" Tower Master Quentin looked at Malin and asked.
Malin was silent for a while, finally nodding: "Yes, there will be a delay."
Then Malin lay down on the snowy ground, feeling dizzy from the blood loss, making it difficult for him to sit up.
"How much time do you think will be off?" Tower Master Quentin’s voice carried a hint of sigh.
Malin thought for a moment: "About forty-seven seconds, by then I must shift the landing spot twenty meters north, so that the edge of the shockwave can just hit this location."
Then Malin added: "I have no other choice."
