Chapter 821: Section 549: The Era Advances (Part Two)
Stepping out of the transport portal, Malin was not surprised to see the guards in front of him as he strode towards the entrance of the Royal Palace.
Eleven and Seventeen hadn’t activated their optical camouflage, their appearance inevitably caused a disturbance, but the half-human messenger who came to find him kicked several cowards in the shin shouting, "You cowards, you are completely useless! Lord Malin is here to see His Majesty, what are you blocking the entrance for?"
It seemed the guards had received the order, they eventually stepped aside, and Malin walked into the great gates of the Royal Palace with Eleven and Seventeen.
Speaking of which, Malin had previously sent Eleven to find Seventeen, only to discover that he had lost an arm in the last battle. Without hesitation, Seventeen followed Eleven back to the Seafloor Base, where after replacing his machine body, the two Machine Souls joined the previous clean-up operation.
Passing through the porch, Malin saw the youngest son of His Majesty Manheim staring blankly at him and the two Machine Souls behind him, until his maid tapped his shoulder, then he timidly called out to Malin as "Mentor."
This address as "Mentor" made Malin stop in his tracks; originally he was prepared to confront Manheim directly—if the discussions went well, Malin would continue to assist the Northern Kingdom. If not, he was ready to leave—no one could stop Malin under the cover of Eleven and Seventeen, and by then Malin would just take Lulu and flee.
But Manheim placing his youngest son here waiting for Malin already meant that His Majesty was ready to have a proper talk.
Because of this, Malin finally called the child over, patted his head, and said, "Soren, come with me, let’s go see your father."
"That’s great, Father asked me to wait here for you." Perhaps noticing that the two Machine Souls didn’t attack him, or simply mustering the courage on his own, the child smiled at Malin.
This answer made Malin marvel—His Majesty Manheim really had immense faith in the kindness of Malin Gaiate.
Thinking this, Malin took Soren by the hand, leading him through the corridors, over the stairs, past the side halls filled with seated and standing ladies and courtiers, and finally entered the main hall surrounded by the nobles.
"Your Majesty, I have brought Lord Malin for you," the half-human bowed to the king seated on the throne.
"Dismissed, and thank you for your efforts," Manheim waved the half-human away, then looked at Malin, "Lord Malin, I let my child welcome you, as you are his mentor."
"Yes, I am his mentor, hence I brought him here," Malin indicated for his apprentice to sit on a small chair to the side, then looked around and asked, "Your Majesty, Your Lords, do you have any questions for me?"
The nobles remained silent, only the old Hagelberry, due to his relation with Malin, spoke up, "Malin, my child, you must have heard about the incidents in the city."
"You mean those who had their entire families eradicated? I am indeed aware, as I signed the decree myself." Malin finished speaking and took out a stack of orders from the Church, handing them over to Manheim with a surge of Spiritual Energy.
"Why do you want them eradicated?" Manheim took the extermination order from Malin, flipping through the pages that listed the names of a whole family lineage, which comprised power emanating from a Deity’s pardon and the clear sacred seal of the Church of the Goddess of Harvest.
Is this proof that the Goddess of the Harvest of the Church is reviving?
Manheim passed the extermination order down, and the nobles who were whispering amongst themselves fell silent upon seeing its contents—if Malin really made the choice of extermination on his own, it would be a very troublesome matter, as Church personnel and Nobles naturally don’t get along.
But because Malin took out the extermination order, it implies his actions represent the will of the Deity.
"Does the Goddess of Harvest also strike against hoarding Merchants?" old Hagelberry seemed somewhat puzzled, looking at Malin to raise his question.
"Due to these Merchants, countless farmers and civilians have lost everything because of their actions," Malin looked at old Hagelberry who nodded in agreement, then turned to Manheim: "Yes, Your Majesty, those merchants have indeed harmed innocent civilians and farmers; since the onset of winter this year, at least tens of thousands of civilians haven’t had enough money to even light their stoves, they could only wonder if it’s their own fault, unaware that the price of charcoal has risen by at least 400% this winter, this shouldn’t be the case."
"Your Majesty, I will get the Church of Justice to collect the complete information and hand it over to you about these merchants’ crimes," Malin finished and looked at the nobles: "What do Your Lordships think?"
Not a single one of Manheim’s subjects dared to reply, only the young ones chose to speak up, among them, a young man stood out.
"Lord Malin, do you think these people deserve to die?"
Such courage.
This greatly impressed Malin—Manheim, your luck is indeed good, it didn’t need your son, just the courage of this young man has already made you treat the ruthless killer with a fondness for talent.
Considering this, Malin nodded, "They all deserve to die, in my eyes, they must die," Malin answered in the standard language of the North.
But the young man shook his head, "Lord Malin, you indeed are very powerful, everyone says you are a Legendary figure, but your power is too overwhelming, so much so that you do not even regard the law."
Saying this, the young man stepped forward, "I believe, the Church had already confirmed before, they do not have the right to judge a Noble."
"Do you think I broke the tacit understanding between the Church and the Nobles?" Malin asked with a smile.
"Yes, Your Lordship, we are Nobles," the young man stood and looked at Malin, slightly trembling, "Your Lordship! We need your explanation."
"My explanation is there is no explanation, you really have the audacity to ask me this answer, I ask you, your uncle smuggles military materials every year, then when he buys those items from the southern consortium, how is the law supposed to work?" Malin laughed as he spoke, extending his hand, a surge of Spiritual Energy slammed the young man against the wall.
Malin looked at the struggling young man still against the wall and at the shocked nobles, finally clenching his fist.
"Justice?"
Malin laughed.
"I am Justice!"
