Chapter 78: Sixty-Nine Chapter: Yuezi (2)
In the southern regions of the Sydney Union, the Harvest Festival carries a special meaning—assessing the newcomers and blessings.
Malin only learned about this when he was about to reach the Lillim residence.
Just as in Jessica’s home, being the daughters of the family, the first time a male invites them, the males of the household must step forward and engage in an honorable fight.
It was a fight, not a duel, the latter being a matter of life and death where one doesn’t hesitate if dissatisfied, while the former aimed at winning or losing, where brothers would fight for their sister’s happiness.
If the sisters liked the boy, the males of the family might go easy on him, but if they didn’t, the fight could very well turn into an undeclared duel.
Of course, if the difference in abilities was too great, like a powerful dragon crossing the river in Malin’s case, the males of the family could surrender at any time—after all, even a War God wouldn’t encourage his followers to march to their deaths in a completely uneven battle.
Hey, do I have to go fight Jon?
Malin was stunned for a moment—could this kid even take a punch from him?
After some thought, he probably couldn’t, as he was nothing more than a mortal who could be killed with a single punch.
If they were to fight, assuming the goal was to take Lillim with him, it would have to be a controlled effort.
......
With such thoughts in mind, Malin, accompanied by the girls, arrived at the door. Jon’s family was warmly hospitable. Jon’s father and his wives were eagerly waiting there, and Jon’s younger brother, Miles Sheringham, a fifth-grader whom Malin thrashed daily, grimaced as he led Malin towards the family’s training ground.
"Come to think of it, why do you even want to fight me when you battle me every day?" Malin was puzzled, as he thought any student from the Church who sparred with him should understand the principle of ’respecting the gods from a distance’.
Indeed, although these young people were improving every day, in the face of absolute power difference, no matter how much they struggle, they were merely ants struggling in the eyes of a giant!
On second thought, ants is such a twee term, Malin thought, considering his age, he shouldn’t be so juvenile.
Better replace it with poor thing.
"Do you think I enjoy fighting you? Every day at noon, being hammered by you is like being plastered against the wall. As soon as I heard you were coming, I admitted defeat, but my two older brothers, for some reason, didn’t want to fight you either. Father got angry and sent us three to fight you in rotation."
Malin couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time—where in the world could you find such faint-hearted brothers?
At the training ground, Malin met Jon and his other brother.
Considering he was there to take Lillim out to have fun, and these three brothers of Lillim would obviously be inviting their female companions out today as well, Malin prepared to hold back even more.
He smiled.
Completely oblivious to the sweat dripping from the foreheads of the three Sheringham brothers standing in front of him.
......
The head of the Sheringham family watched his third child scream as he flew out of the training ground and couldn’t help but smile—not a bitter smile, but one in awe of Malin’s strength.
Far more excessive than what his child had described, he had monstrous strength yet was able to control the magnitude of his force—without enough training time, such a fight could easily lead to fatal injuries at any time. At least as a father, he could confirm that none of his three children would survive to the end of the fight.
So, although his three sons looked tragic, judging by how they were still able to struggle a bit despite being plastered against the wall, Malin truly did pull his punches. Thus, his little daughter Lillim happily said goodbye to her mothers and followed Malin out.
"That’s really something. I have never seen such control of strength. When he was hitting Kegan just now, I thought our son was a goner."
"Yeah, when Kegan took off, I thought he was a goner for sure."
"Don’t you guys think it was especially funny when Jon took flight?"
"Well, I think Mal is the most interesting. As a child from the same Church as Mr. Malin, at least he can hold on for ten seconds after daily special training."
The mothers of the children were discussing today’s scene, while the master of the Sheringham household turned his head to look at his three children, who were still hanging on the wall. Seeing their father’s gaze, they all embarrassingly smiled.
Hehe, I’ll give you something to smile about, you useless things who can’t even protect your own sister! Say goodbye to your allowances!
......
Leaving the Sheringham home, Malin didn’t feel happy about today’s fight.
Really, it was very cautious, not like the Church’s noon training where there’s no need for much control, only to restrain oneself from hammering the opponent to death right away—the Church’s emergency response team is always close by, and as long as the victim isn’t hammered to death on the spot, they can almost always be brought back.
But in the recent battle, Malin had to control his force meticulously, fearing that he might accidentally hammer one of the three brothers to death.
After all, he couldn’t take a weeping and wailing lamb away with him.
However, Malin soon cheered up again—don’t worry, only two days left until the Harvest Festival, and starting next week he could catch them and hammer happily. There’s also the annual inter-church competition in October. Only talents from various churches will be participating, and he can unleash his strength without holding back, enjoying a good fight.
Awesome!
Thinking of this, Malin noticed the little lamb had come up to him, the girl with curly horns looked at Malin, "Mr. Malin, with whom are you going to dance the first dance today?"
Hmm, that indeed was a question. But there was no need to think too hard, "It should be your sister Faye. After all, she taught me how to dance."
The little lamb girl glanced at Maya, then laughed and stepped back into the line of girls.
This small talk from the little lamb lady made Malin start thinking about the order of dance partners, but before he could figure it out, the girls huddled together, chattering a bunch, then Faye conveyed a response to Malin, "You don’t need to worry about the order of the dances, we sisters have already arranged it all."
Malin was a bit stunned—hold on, girls, I haven’t even thought about it yet, and you’ve already got everything sorted out clearly for me?
Ah... that’s not bad, either.
Malin felt that recently everything was getting more and more comfortable for him.
No need to bother with anything, as the girls could handle things on their own.
"Well then, you decide amongst yourselves, today I’m going to show off the number one dance king style of Carterburg!" With this thought, Malin boasted a bit in his happiness.
The girls were laughing so hard they couldn’t catch their breath.
The festive atmosphere grew stronger as Malin and the girls drew closer to the square. At the square’s entrance, Malin bumped into Logan and his Miriam, the kid’s face had some swelling, looking like he had been in a fight, but considering Miriam was applying medicine to him, it seemed he must have won.
"Ah, Malin... oh wow! Why do you have so many girls behind you?" Logan exclaimed in surprise when he saw the girls behind Malin.
Malin turned around.
Maya, Faye, Jessica, Lillim.
"Not that many, just four girls," Malin remarked.
Completely oblivious to the classmate Logan’s face twisting in a rather horrifying way.
