Chapter 742: 508: The True God-Chosen Champion_2
Struggling to control his emotions, Malin struck his longsword against the axe blade three times.
After the first strike, the will known as Malin returned to his body.
After the second strike, courage and strength began to be constrained.
After the third strike, Malin raised both weapons high and let out the battle roar of a Frost Giant.
Behind him, at the breach in the city walls, soldiers clutching various weapons surged forth, shouting insults at the Chaos, feeling at that moment invincible. All soldiers feverishly watched Malin, ready to rush forward and flay the skin from the Chaos at a single word from him.
"Soldiers! Do not come! Do not desecrate this holy duel," Malin shouted, then strode toward the one named Mendel: "Come, you piece of trash! Let me sever your arms, chop off your neck, and cut you into a thousand pieces!"
"That line should be mine!" Mendel roared as he charged, his axe raised high to split Malin in two with a single blow, but his attack hadn’t fully descended when the Malin before him began to shatter— and the next second, the longsword pierced his left rib, the pain reaching his brain, and the Chaos giant howled, attempting to punch Malin’s head.
But before the fist could swing, Malin dragged his longsword out from the wound, dodged the punch with a twist, and using the momentum of his turn, his left-hand axe chopped off Mendel’s entire left arm.
Mendel swung his axe with his right hand in the middle of turning, but Malin blocked the blow with his left-handed axe and simultaneously, his right-handed sword pierced into Mendel’s chest. While the Chaos giant kneeled on the ground wailing due to holy energy, Malin’s axe severed his other arm.
Turning, stepping, Malin came behind Mendel, the back-held axe blade driven into Mendel’s head with a swing. After prying a bit to remove the axe, Malin walked past from Mendel’s left side, withdrawing the longsword from his chest, and allowing this chosen champion to take his last breath.
With a twist of the longsword, resting on Mendel’s left shoulder neck, a pull severed the head of this chosen champion from his body.
The longsword flicked, lifting the champion’s head, and with a smack from Malin’s sword, the head flew toward the front line formed by the soldiers.
"A share for everyone! Thrice for the deceased! Soldiers! Annihilate these wastes!" Malin bellowed.
The soldiers roared as they rushed towards the disarrayed ranks of the Chaos.
Seeing the Chaos trying to flee, Malin threw his axe aside, raised his left hand, and an ice wall rose behind the Chaos.
The soldiers roared past Malin, a few Knights and Nobles taking the time to give Malin a very brief salute before quickly catching up with the formation, while many more, having no time for courtesy, lunged at the Chaos as if seeing their beloved.
The majority of the now cowardly Chaos didn’t even attempt to resist; they only wanted to run, thus more met their end trampled by their own than by enemies. Those who managed to fight back were completely overwhelmed by the numbers of the defenders.
Even Malin saw that the Dwarves, working in pairs, carried huge spike-guns, firing at close range at the Chaos giants. These weapons were hit or miss at a distance, but at only ten steps away, the caliber and the weight of the solid shot became the overwhelming factor.
Malin turned, looked at the axe on the ground, and finally picked it up.
Although it bore the taint of terror, surprisingly the longsword in Malin’s hand negated the power of Chaos.
So, as long as that sword was in hand, Malin truly wasn’t worried about transforming into a living horror.
As for the few seconds he had only held the axe, that was simple. Wasn’t he holding only the longsword when he cast the spell afterwards? That thing was essentially a conglomerate of holy energy. Any aberration in Malin had been directly healed.
Thinking this, Malin looked down and kicked the severed finger aside—hey, the Glowing Sea in Fallout 4 was nothing more than this, right?
"My child," the voice of old Gaiate came from behind Malin. Malin turned around, and with a gesture, opened Subspace to throw both weapons inside—the coordinates near the shallow areas of the World Tree. Malin, a living person, could withstand it, so the World Tree, a mighty tree that bathed in Subspace, need fear nothing.
"Father," Malin smiled and nodded in greeting.
"Are you okay?" he looked at Malin but didn’t immediately come over.
Malin felt that was rather good; his father hadn’t lost his vigilance, maintaining necessary suspicion was the way to survive.
"I’m fine," Malin replied.
The old man looked at Malin, "Whose axe is that?"
"Uh... it belongs to the guy who turned into a ball," Malin dared not speak the name of the dread directly.
Old Gaiate took a sharp breath, "How can you be so bold! You’re not hurt, are you?!"
"No, the sword given by the Lord of Justice suppressed the mutations in my body, look, I didn’t grow four hands or eight eyes," said Malin, spreading his hands.
Then he saw several Frost Giants approaching, the one leading looked at Malin with a visibly indescribable expression, "Lord Malin Gaiate, for killing Mendel’s son, this is the bounty the Frost Giant hunting party is paying you."
"Thank you." Malin took the bag of gold coins and casually tossed it to old Gaiate.
The latter caught it and then took off, hovering above the ground under Malin’s gaze. Seeing his son’s surprised expression and confirming that his father wasn’t injured, he turned to the Frost Giants, "How many pounds is this?"
"200 pounds of platinum," the Frost Giant representative also looked quite embarrassed.
Malin glanced at the bag in his hand and eventually threw it into his Semi-Plane, "I thought it was just a small token," the young man said with an embarrassed laugh.
"Mendel is wanted by many organizations in the North; they will send their bounties in the next few days. You could stay in the North for a few more days," explained the Frost Giant representative with a smile.
Hearing that there was money to be taken, as a rising star of the flamboyantly impoverished, Malin naturally nodded, "Okay, I can rest in Copenhagen for a week."
Only a fool would refuse free money.
......
In the end, Malin still couldn’t get on a ship back to Copenhagen that day; Niergen, this guy, had gone into battle with an illness during the Chaos invasion. Although brave, the young man who vomited so much could not exert even half his strength and ended up being smashed in the face by Chaos siege engines. He wouldn’t die, but today, he shouldn’t even think about getting out of bed.
So Malin and his companions could only rest in the port for a night.
In the evening, Malin was invited to a banquet held by the local nobility. Although it was exceptionally simple compared to the varied affairs of Carterburg, Malin saw one good thing about this banquet—it was all meat.
There were four ways of cooking the giant elk meat, and Malin’s favorite was the honey-roasted elk, which tasted amazing. Who knew the meat of such a huge elk could be so tender? Malin, guzzling wine and wolfing down meat in the restaurant, immediately won over the Northern nobles—they found him more delightful than any Prince of Farole or any tycoon from Sydney; none could compare to the man who felled a divine champion in battle at noon and gorged at the dining table in the evening.
After hearing about Malin’s Frost Giant lineage, these fellows were even more delighted, continuously toasting with Malin until he got them all drunk.
The local City Lord was an Earl. He thanked Malin once more for helping them defend the harbor that day and introduced his granddaughter, saying the honey-roasted elk from today was her doing and she could serve as a maid for the noble Prince Malin.
Malin smiled and shook his head, indicating he didn’t need another maid.
And once again, he affirmed his theory— a man who can cook for himself, who masters his own stomach, will indeed be a man without weaknesses.
