Chapter 67: Chapter Sixty: The Fifth Day of the Harvest Festival, Part 2
After being helped up, Malin applied a healing spell to his own eyes and then, with a mix of tears and laughter, helped his sister up as well.
After the effect of two spell treatments, the little Leopard Girl finally stopped rubbing her eyes.
"Okay, if there’s nothing else, I’m heading out," Colin felt that the commotion made him feel less uncomfortable, so he dusted off his hands and prepared to leave.
As he was about to walk past the mirror, Colin noticed the little Leopard Girl named Maya staring at him with wide eyes.
Despite the tears filling her eyes, she was still trying very hard to see.
Colin felt a bit embarrassed because he didn’t think of himself as good-looking.
...No, that’s not right, this girl must have trouble with her eyesight, and she still thinks of me as a walking piece of meat.
With this thought in mind, Colin smiled and greeted Maya, "Maya, I’m off then."
"...Goodbye, Mr. Colin," the little Leopard Girl said while waving behind Colin.
Colin turned his head, only to see his reflection and the little girl’s in the mirror.
Great, my eyesight is still off, this girl’s eyes are really going to need some time to recover.
......
Faye realized she was being troubled by a problem, a very vexing problem that had been bothering her ever since she woke up.
"Faye, my dear daughter, I have good news for you, I have rejected Sigro’s marriage proposal on your behalf,"
Had these words been spoken by her own mother, Faye would not have been surprised at all, believing that her mother loved her dearly.
But why were these words spoken by Manli’s mother?
Was she still not fully awake, or was she not thinking clearly, or was this all just a beautiful dream?
With such thoughts, Faye went downstairs to sit with her sister Margaret.
Her father sat at the head of the table reading the newspaper, with a cup of coffee in front of him, obviously brewed by Lena.
Faye’s mother, as usual, hurried out from her laboratory before breakfast.
"Good morning, my dear daughters," she greeted, rubbing cheeks with Faye and Margaret, then sat down next to Manli’s mother.
"Good morning, my sister. I have brought good news for our youngest daughter. Perhaps the news is so wonderful that she is still somewhat in a daze, so I think it’s best for you to repeat it," Manli’s mother suggested.
"Thank you, sister."
Faye watched her mother pour Manli’s mother a cup of milk tea and then turned toward her daughter, "Faye, yesterday I spoke with your Manli’s mother about your marriage, and we’ve decided to respect your choice."
Faye felt as if she had heard the voice of an angel: "This is the best news I’ve heard in the last three years, Manli’s mother, so I really don’t have to deal with Sigro anymore?"
"Of course, your mother and I have agreed. Although Sigro is my relative, after all, you are my daughter," Manli’s mother replied with a smile.
Faye, euphoric, opened her arms wide: "That’s fantastic! Ah, by the way, about Malin..."
Faye pondered a problem; Sigro was one issue, and Malin was another, the key to this problem being—the two young men did not belong to the same issue.
Although it was a bit of a mouthful, Faye still hoped to receive good news from her mother.
"Today, your Manli’s mother and I will meet him, just as we did with Colin before," Faye’s mother explained.
This remark made Margaret, who had been trying to make herself inconspicuous, prick up her ears.
"Your Anna’s mother and I have decided to give the lad a chance; after all, you did bring him into the villa," Manli’s mother said with a smile of reminiscence, "You are like me, but even more like your mother, so we also want to see for ourselves the boy who has captured your heart."
"Please don’t bully him, mother," Faye looked towards her own mother.
"My dear daughter, do you think I am the kind of witch who likes to do away with her son-in-law?" Faye’s mother smiled as she looked at her daughter, "Don’t worry, we’ll just have a look. We won’t interfere with you two; your destiny will be in your own hands."
At this point, both mothers turned their gazes towards Margaret, and Faye’s mother was the first to speak, "Margaret."
"Oh, Manli’s mother, Anna’s mother, is there something you need?" Margaret responded like a startled little rabbit.
"Regarding you and Colin," Manli’s mother began.
```
"Malin’s mom and I have reached an agreement," Anna’s mom said, her smile bittersweet.
Margaret covered her mouth with her hand, and then Faye saw her sister’s eyes brimming with large tears. She was crying, eventually standing up, "No, I love Colin! None of you will drag me away from him! I will only marry Colin!"
Faye noticed that her father was smiling.
She also noticed that her own mother and Manli’s sister were smiling too.
"Dear, we agree," both mothers said in unison at that moment.
"I just knew you wouldn’t..." Halfway through her sentence, Margaret, the sister in Faye’s eyes, finally realized, her hand covering her mouth again. But this time, her tears were full of joy. She looked at the moms in disbelief, "You’ve agreed!"
"Of course, you are our daughter after all. The only issue is we must get that old man Hoffman to write a letter of guarantee; he must promise to exclude Colin from his plans," Manli’s mom said with a smile, "How about that, do you still fancy this arrangement?"
"I...I must be dreaming, Faye, pinch me."
Facing her sister’s request, Faye pinched her sister’s arm without hesitation.
Then she was pushed away by her sister.
"That really hurts!"
She yelled, laughing like a foolish girl.
Faye raised an eyebrow, "Sister, you really don’t behave like a lady at all."
"Look at your sister, learn from her skills properly."
......
After dinner, Faye went looking for Malin with great joy—although she still hadn’t figured out why her own mother and Manli’s mom were so fond of Colin, recognition was all that mattered. Malin was strong and adorable, surely she would be popular.
Traveling in a carriage, the girl arrived at the Church and met Malin, who was sitting at the workbench in the dormitory building.
He was so focused on his work, handling various tools to put together different props, and Faye saw many cylinders in the shape of the Church’s special grenades. Those must be the Holy Flash Grenades.
What was that big cylinder, metal and yet hollow?
What about that pointed cylinder Malin held in his hand?
So weird, she thought. All of the components made sense when taken apart, but as soon as Malin put them together, Faye found she couldn’t understand any of it.
With these thoughts, Faye stood silently behind him, watching until he placed the hand-held cylinder into the hollow one.
"Finished," he said, elated.
As if given permission, Faye happily stretched out her arms and wrapped them around Malin’s neck from behind. She smiled, wanting to lean on Malin’s back.
Then Faye realized that Malin’s wheeled chair moved uncontrollably forward, eventually crashing them both into the workbench.
Then a Holy Flash Grenade wobbled and tipped over on the bench.
Under their watchful eyes, it rolled off the bench and crashed to the floor.
No explosion, no flash.
All that was left was Malin’s long sigh, "Thank goodness I reinstalled the safety."
Faye also let out a sigh of relief, "I thought it was going to blow up."
Malin chuckled and patted the hands Faye had resting on his chest, "A wise person won’t stumble over the same branch twice."
Faye paused for a moment... What did that mean?
"Right, I have an assistant job at noon today, dealing with some including-Wraith Spiritual Bodies and flying barbarians that might exist. Want to come see the excitement?"
"Sure." To be honest, she’d seen Saro demons run, she’d even seen their flesh turned into steaks.
So Faye agreed without hesitation.
Malin’s spells worked nine out of ten times; Faye’s supported eight out of nine. Just a few flying barbarians and Wraith Spiritual Bodies.
They would hardly be enough to kill.
