Chapter 629: Section 442: Rain (Part 1)
"Father, it seems you did not give Lord Malin an explanation," Shelton said softly, watching his father walk past him.
"You silly child, do you think Lord Malin needs me to explain about a dead man?" The Duke of the House of Brice looked at the Baron of the House of Brice, a smile spread across the former’s face: "Whether it’s for the family or for your own friendship, you’re not wrong to ask. But have you considered why your friend did not ask himself?"
"...Because he knows, whoever dares to frame a High Priest of Truth is destined to be tied to the stake, right?"
"Exactly, I was wondering why Nagoth’s troops would appear at the hunting grounds, why they came neither early nor late, but at the time of our hunt. Now you see, isn’t there already an answer?" The Duke of Brice said and patted his son’s shoulder: "See that? The Church’s people have already come looking. You go and keep those foolish Barons in check. If they think their friendship can stand against the Church, then hand them over to the Church along with their lands. Our friends at the Church will provide an answer that leaves no one able to say a word."
......
Malin watched as the Baron under severe torture confessed his reckless assassination desires, only to be disappointed, so when his accomplices were killed, the guy lost his mind in anger, hence the previous performance.
But then again, for the sake of immortality, the country folk of this era indeed were full of imagination. Without Malin, the private troops of the House of Brice would have blindly fallen into the trap. Not weakened by Malin, this contingent of Nagoth’s Chaos troops would have definitely caused heavy loss to the House of Brice, even the possibility of total annihilation.
Now that the truth had been exposed, no one objected to sending this person to the pyre. The Barons who were previous indignant about the Church controlling their ’friend’ were now rushing to apologize to Malin, and there was a unified opinion on how to construct the pyre—there was no need for the Church’s friends to intervene; they would take care of it themselves, in righteous indignation.
So there was Malin, tapping the head of a dying Beastman with a Staff of Civilization transformed from a World Tree Sapling, while watching the Barons stack the funeral pyre for their former ’old friend’ with fervent enthusiasm.
"Lord Malin will not kill this Beastman?"
"I think we can save it and then use it to test how much damage Holy Water can cause to such a creature. This life must be from another plane, just worshipping the Evil God. The researchers will like it," Malin said and signaled his Guards to bind the Beastman.
Then Malin poured a large bucket of Holy Water over the Beastman, using number six Holy Water.
When the Holy Water touched the Beastman, white mist spread out, and the Beastman screamed in pain. However, some of the wounds on its body were indeed healing.
"Indeed, it is a living being, but they have embraced the faith of Nagoth and carry the disease," Clovis said.
"Yes, that’s why I say the research institute indeed needs such excellent assistants." After speaking, Malin gestured for the soldiers to carry the Beastman away—the Holy Water had purified its shell, at least for a while it would not carry disease.
As for the land, Malin thought that a complete Purification ceremony was still necessary; otherwise, there would definitely be a major epidemic in the Duke’s domain.
"Perhaps I can try to heal this land," Maya said as she approached Malin at that time.
"You?" Malin glanced at the young Panthera before him, realizing the girl had somehow grown stronger again.
Well, it’s not that Malin was not observant; it’s just that in his eyes, however much stronger the girls became, it would not change the fact that he was the strongest in the house. Therefore, Malin never really paid attention to the girls’ abilities.
"Alright, you try it," Malin encouraged her.
Then the young girl clasped her hands in front of her chest, and the next second, the previously clear sky began to darken, and then the rain fell.
As the sky dimmed, Rewo sensed a change in the air.
It was no longer the scent of disease, but the pure scent of nature.
Maya has ascended, how incredible.
Elatedly, Rewo stood beside Malin, the girl picked up by Malin rested her head on his shoulder.
"Purification Rain?" A contemplative Nova lifted her gaze to the sky, feeling the raindrops on her face that brought with them a warm, natural essence.
A sacred, natural essence.
Nova watched the young girl beside Malin, and at that moment, it seemed as though the rain could not dampen her, as if something were blocking the rain, or perhaps it was that the rain did not wish to desecrate its summoner.
Maya Gaiate had, at this very moment, completed her ascension to a higher level.
Among the sisters, one had achieved legend, stirring Nova’s emotions greatly. She had once thought that among the sisters, it would be either herself or Faye to first become legendary, but she never considered that this Panthera girl who seemed like a little follower by Malin’s side would be the first to reach legend.
A legendary being, not yet of age.
Standing in the rain, Clovis watched her kin with full-hearted joy—her happiness stemmed from the fact that finally, a sister possessed the bloodline strength to bear Malin’s offspring, a legend, even if of the bronze class, had the quality to have children with the Golden Blood.
What a relief, in this brutal world where life and death partings were commonplace, her Malin finally had the chance to leave descendants. The rabbit smiled, letting her tears dissipate in the gradually intensifying rain.
If only Clovis had been the one to make all this happen, how wonderful that would have been.
Then Clovis wiped her face— but this is good too, isn’t it? Malin’s children are Clovis’s children too.
With this thought, Clovis positioned her long staff upright, then knelt on one knee—offering the respect that a Beastman should to her kin who had just become legendary.
Jessica stood in the rain, letting herself get soaked, filled with envy—envious of Maya’s legendary achievement at this moment. Maya’s efforts might have been invisible to others, but she had always seen them.
Her father always said that those who work hard will seize the opportunity when it comes.
So, Jessica, as the eldest among the sisters, you must try harder and not become the least qualified.
With this in mind, the Werewolf girl reversed her sword and stabbed it into the ground. Beastmen respect the strong, and as someone who had just touched the threshold of silver, it was only fitting for her to pay her respects to the legendary Shaman who had come before her.
Feeling slightly aggrieved, Lillim knelt on one knee, following Beastman customs to offer respect to her recently ascended legendary kin.
How she envied Maya, yet it also seemed only right, for Maya was the earliest among the sisters to follow Mr. Malin. Everyone said that being with Malin invariably increased one’s own power. Lillim had been skeptical at first, but as she gradually grew stronger, the Rebbish Sheep girl started to believe that it must be the Truth.
Offering respect to her Panthera sister, as one Beastman to another.
I must become stronger, I want to be with Mr. Malin forever.
Matilda watched Maya, a Paladin who only showed reverence to her Deity, so she did not kneel. But when Maya had concluded her prayer, Matilda was the first to run over and embrace Maya in the pouring rain.
"My sister, how wonderful—it’s among us too, a legend."
"Is this what being legendary is?" Maya countered.
Matilda paused, then burst into laughter—yes, this was just like her sister.
And Malin approached Faye, wrapping his arms around the pointed-eared girl who was laughing through her tears.
Sometimes, in moments like this, silence is more eloquent than words.
