Chapter 616: Chapter 430: Heart as Tough as Iron (Part 4)

Once again, when Malin opened his eyes, he noticed Rewo lying on his chest... it was no wonder he felt a bit stuffy. It was a headache, really, as he patted the girl on the back, and after she woke up and rubbed her eyes, only then did she notice her crumbling façade.

The girl didn’t bother to explain but flashed a sweet smile before Malin shooed her off himself.

I’ve gotten smaller again, huh?

Looking at his small hands, Malin turned his head to look at Rewo—it must have been because this silly girl was lying on top of him that Faye and the others hadn’t woken him up.

Really now, is this girl part cat? But that can’t be right either, Maya never sleeps like this.

With confusion, Malin got out of bed, put on his robe (the temperature in Carterburg was around five degrees that morning), and went downstairs with Rewo, also in her robe. He discovered that his girls were all wearing robes too, gathered around the fire, enjoying breakfast.

"Our Malin has come down. You look so adorable today, let me hold you," Nova said, reaching out her hand, but Malin knocked her down with a finger flick, "Didn’t you say we were heading to Rongma?"

"Ah, it’s the Elemental Ebb today. All spell formations are unusable," Nova explained, and that’s when Malin finally realized something was off—yes, he couldn’t sense the elements anymore.

He snapped his fingers, and the small flame flickered out instantly.

"Malin, you’re amazing. Under these circumstances, you can still gather elements; we can’t manage to gather any at all," Faye commented and then looked at Malin, "Wait, don’t tell me you didn’t know about the Elemental Ebb."

"How would I know?" Malin responded and paused for a moment, "Right, if it’s the Elemental Ebb, doesn’t that mean Chaos can’t enter this world then?"

"That’s one way to put it. If the tide of elements stops ebbing, then Chaos won’t be able to enter this world," Clovis said, then climbed over to Malin and hugged him, "Mmm, little Malin, you’re especially cute."

"Don’t act like a weird auntie," Malin said as he pulled on Clovis’s ears that had drooped down when she had lowered her head to sniff at his neck.

Then, as usual, a flick of his finger.

Clovis fell backwards, and Nova laughed out loud.

"So, what are we going to do today?" Malin asked the girls.

"Isn’t it nice to stay at home? To snatch a few moments of leisure from life, you’ve been working hard recently. Can’t you just take a proper rest?" Faye asked back.

Malin was startled, then smiled and nodded, "Alright, let’s take a day off then. Today must be a peaceful day, anyway."

"Then later, I will take Jessica and Lillim to the market to buy spices, while Nova, Maya, and Clovis go to the Semi-Plane to catch a deer for us. Let’s have a barbecue this afternoon!"

"Eh, what should I do?" Matilda raised her hand to ask.

"Take good care of our Mr. Malin, don’t let any bad women take advantage of him," Faye said seriously and earnestly.

"I completely understand. Leave it to me!" Matilda declared with a serious and earnest expression.

What are you guys even talking about? What bad women? Don’t you all have any self-awareness?

Rewo dutifully climbed onto Malin’s head, "Malin, what’s your next new story about?"

"Didn’t I just finish telling you the last volume of Leon’s Adventures last night?" Malin said with a headache; this girl really was a little sprite, she actually enjoyed listening to stories. Last night he told stories until his head ached from talking so much.

"But it’s finished now. What about the new story?" hope shone in Rewo’s eyes.

Facing his number one fan, Malin shook his head, "I haven’t thought of one yet."

"Rewo, writing isn’t the same as a hen laying eggs," Maya said with a laugh.

"Alright then, how about this—I’ll take Matilda and Rewo to the National Publishing House; I have a few things to ask Mr. President."

Now that the tasks had been assigned, everyone finished their meal and set about dividing the work.

Spotty, who was currently working at the orphanage, was in charge of house-sitting, and now that her pups were getting bigger and had started eating meat, she didn’t have to worry as much as before. However, Malin felt that perhaps their separation was drawing near—he had heard that spirits usually chased their offspring away after they grew up.

Ah, it truly was a regrettable reality that in this world, all good parties must come to an end.

After changing clothes, Malin, along with Matilda and Rewo, headed to the publishing house. Due to the Elemental Ebb, mages who usually just opened the door and walked through had to use their feet to get around. It was lucky that Malin had prepared beforehand; the portal in the Semi-Plane used a permanent Spell Formation that wasn’t affected by low tides.

Of course, Malin wouldn’t ride the number 11; he called his own coachman—old Coachman Heisel, a retired Proxy from the Church. Since he was an orphan, he chose to continue serving to earn more money for his family, and Malin had hired him for just that reason.

The Church knew the situation and that Malin’s family seldom used the carriage. For old Heisel, working for Malin was basically semi-retirement, and he was happy with that arrangement.

Today was the first time that Malin had ridden in his carriage, which made the self-proclaimed idler, who was almost sick from boredom, extremely happy.

Sitting in his carriage, they arrived at the front door of the publishing house, where the secretary, still wearing that dress, came to welcome him. It made one wonder if she was still capable of pulling double-barreled sawed-off shotguns from under her dress on a whim.

"Lord Malin, welcome to the publishing house. What brings you here today?" the secretary asked with a smile as she saw Malin.

"I have some questions about writing. Is the president in?"

"Of course, but he’s currently with a visitor. You’ll have to wait a moment," the secretary replied.

With that answer, Malin didn’t mind waiting to find out who it was—it was certainly a private matter. So he told old Heisel to find a warm place to rest while he took his niece into the lobby.

"Good morning, Lord Malin," the guards of the publishing house, who were already acquainted with Malin, greeted him as they met.

"Good morning. Are you on duty today?" Malin asked the young guard with a smile.

"Yes, but I’m covering for a colleague. It’s his wedding day today."

"Is that so? Well, here’s a little something from me; please pass it along," Malin said, handing over a piece of fruit and tossing it into the guard’s arms.

"Thank you for your generosity!" the young man exclaimed gratefully.

"Don’t thank me. When you get married, I’ll give you one as well." Turning to the secretary, Malin inquired, "What about you, madam?"

"I’m sorry, Lord Malin, but I am a follower of the Forbidden Marriage Sect." The lady declined Malin’s ’kind offer’ with a smile. "There’s no need to set me up with anything."

What, there’s a Forbidden Marriage Sect?

Harboring such curiosity, Malin was about to ask Matilda when a roar came from the second floor: "I’ve never dated anyone! How can you make me write this stuff?"

"It’s precisely because you haven’t been in love that you’re qualified to write it! Otherwise, I wouldn’t let you write at all!"

Hmm, it must be the president having an argument with the author he was seeing.

But... these days, even in this bizarre world, there are such strange requirements for writing love stories?
