Chapter 582: Chapter 400: Nobel Holiday (Part 3)
Having attended the banquet, Malin was set to take people back to the south of Farole, after all, someone was still waiting for him there—Anthony’s family heard of Malin’s military exploits, and although it was originally one of their elders who was to officiate the marriage, they decisively changed it to Malin. Their patriarch insisted on requesting Malin for this occasion.
Malin had no ill intent toward this elder, and since they had approached with a request, Malin had discussed it with Nova and decided to grant them the honor.
For this purpose, Malin had made special contact with the military in Sydney, especially Ataf and the commanders of those twelve regiments—most of the nobility still didn’t know the outcome of Malin’s discussions with the royal family, and Malin was certain that among them, there were those eager for a spectable, though as to whose spectacle it was, Malin preferred not to inquire too deeply.
All he wanted was for outsiders to understand one thing—that he, Malin, was not the ambitious type. Indeed, he wanted to change the world, but he had never considered pushing it towards destruction. The planet beneath his feet was Earth, a world that countless people had strived for and gradually improved.
Even if time flowed swiftly by, as long as Malin remained, the spirit of the old Earth would never falter.
Then there was the matter of explaining the situation to Emperor Goethe, who was very understanding—since the Gallo family was giving Malin such respect, his presence alongside Faye would put an end to many rumors.
Malin had this in mind too; with Faye by his side, many rumors and lies would be self-defeating. Whether it was the Church of Justice or the Church of the War God, both would speak on his behalf, and there was no need to mention the Church of the Harvest Goddess, for that was Malin’s own maternal family.
Mere noble gossip? In these times, not many would dare concoct stories about a champion.
And while bidding farewell to the emperor and his two wives, Malin also made a point of conversing with Lady Manli once more.
The lady was likely in an awkward position—she had always been opposed to Malin leading the troops or even maintaining contact with Sydney’s military and the nobility.
She had managed this quite well, and Malin never considered having any dealings with Sydney’s combined military and nobility, but all of that became an illusion due to his child, Joe.
Moreover, she no longer had the power to stop Malin—holder of the divine Pastoral Staff of the Harvest Goddess, the champion of the War God and the Lord of Justice, Lady Manli, if she had any sense left, wouldn’t dare confront Malin head-on, let alone entertain any malicious thoughts.
Doing so would only destroy her family and leave her three children with nothing—The Mowish family certainly could not oppose the three churches just to save her children, and in that case, Faye would become the sole heir.
This was surely an outcome many kingdoms and great nobles did not wish to see—a red-robed Bishop of a church who is also the father of heirs to two kingdoms, one that seems destined for legendary deeds.
"Lady, I know what you’re worried about. I know you don’t trust my promises, and in your eyes, I have always been a problem," Malin said, causing a wry smile to emerge on Lady Manli’s face. She nodded, acknowledging everything Malin said.
"Lady, you do not understand my intentions. What I am doing is to restore the glory of human history. Can you understand that?" Malin asked this.
Lady Manli looked puzzled as she gazed at Malin but then chose to humbly ask, "Malin, the glory you speak of, from which era does it date back to?"
The glory from before the Great Destruction Era.
"With all due respect, Mr. Malin, that is already the age of myths," the elven butler said.
"Jason, come, greet this lady."
Malin opened his tablet, and the next second, Jason projected himself in front of Malin.
The elven butler was taken aback for a moment, then bowed his head: "It’s a projection, an autonomous machine from before the era of Great Destruction. Sir Malin, you truly are the chosen one."
Lady Manli glanced at her husband and then nodded, "Malin, it seems you do indeed have power. I am starting to believe what you say, but an autonomous machine alone does not prove anything after all, in our youth, we also encountered an autonomous machine in an abandoned town from the old era in the Union’s North."
"Lady, I am Jason, the core of the old Burles airport. I witnessed the Great Destruction, the final struggles and brilliance of the old civilization, and I saw your ancestors emerge from the shelter to start conquering the world again. I now serve Mr. Malin, and everything he demonstrated in the previous battle has entered our domain of awareness."
"You all?" Goethe couldn’t help but interject.
"There are 72 highly autonomous units like myself, scattered across this continent you inhabit, and on the other side of the planet beneath your feet, there’s another continent, but there remains only destruction and Chaos."
Jason projected an image of a virtual planet above the coffee table: "Sir Malin, what you just spoke of, the desire to restore the glory of human history, has triggered the second level lock of our memory banks. May I ask, are you truly willing to fuel the rebirth of this world’s light with yourself, expel the darkness, and lead the people of today to new heights?"
Malin nodded, "Yes, I am willing."
That’s wonderful. It seems that the people of that time, even when faced with despair, did not yield to it—they were resilient and stubborn in their choice to embrace hope.
"Thank you, Mr. Malin. Please continue to converse with me when you find the time. I will introduce you to a sealed shelter where you can talk to the Reforger inside."
After finishing, Jason turned to converse with Lady Manli: "Lady, I can sense your trepidation towards Mr. Malin. Do not worry; what he is doing is for the sublimation of the entire civilization. Under no circumstances should you do anything foolish. And to console you and your family, I, as an individual, am willing to offer you some compensation. I have activated the first four layers of the Underground City beneath The Capital. Now, their functionalities are beginning to fully restore. If you manage to repair the energy conduits, I can activate the fifth layer and the lowest shelter, where there are many weapons excellent for your era, as well as the tools to produce them. I hope this can atone for you."
Lady Manli may be a bit naive, but everyone knows that the technology of the old era is the best. With that, what else is there to say? Transaction is always pleasant.
After leaving, Malin asked Jerin how long it would take to repair the energy conduits.
"Given the current state of materials science, it’s impossible. You will need to pass the trials of the Reforger first, then you can locate the maintenance factory. Sir Malin, that lady is very stubborn; can we take care of her?"
"...Jason, we are different from the Chaos," Malin shook his head.
