Chapter 542: Chapter 370: Continue (3)
Matilda’s Magician bloodline was a mystery that the girls debated all day without resolution. Compared to these professionals, Malin felt like an auditor, only grasping that Matilda wasn’t a Dragon lineage Magician because she lacked the Spell Formation of breath. After all, no matter the type, dragons have a breathing ability.
Whether it’s ice or fire, acid or electricity, sonic waves or crystals, varies from dragon to dragon.
Matilda, having none of these, was thus ruled out of Dragon lineage.
This left the Big-eared Fox, who had her heart set on becoming a Flame Burst gun, quite regretful. However, Malin, speaking with absolute seriousness, told her nonsense that Dragon lineage Magicians grow horns and their bodies are covered with scales. The vanity-conscious Fox Girl immediately expressed that not being of Dragon lineage was for the best.
Since the girls couldn’t come to a conclusion, Malin leaned against the headboard before bedtime and pulled out the tablet computer. The power button was on the left side of the panel, and pressing it for three seconds would turn it on. Although there were only two battery packs, Malin felt that people from that era had already ventured beyond the atmosphere; it would be inconceivable if the tablet’s battery lasted only 8 hours.
The panel’s language was French, which Malin couldn’t read, but soon after, the camera above the tablet moved slightly, recognized Malin’s appearance, and presented an option to change the language to English and a bunch of other languages Malin didn’t recognize.
There was no Chinese.
Having no other option, Malin chose English, and once in the interface, found and changed the system settings to display Chinese.
Then a line of text appeared in the middle of the screen.
·Do you confirm you want to use Chinese?
Do I even have a choice?
Malin smiled, waited for the system to finish converting, and then opened the documents. Karn Kajad had saved a lot of information, and the technology directory immediately fascinated Malin, who clicked on it first.
Hmm, the first sub-folder... Room temperature superconducting nuclear fusion perpetual motion reactor?
Malin wiped his forehead. He recognized every word, but put together, he felt as illiterate as one faced with tons of Gaokao study materials.
The second sub-folder... Fully-automatic Replicator Factory Core Components Assembly List.
Malin took a deep breath. What is this, who am I, where am I?
After asking himself these questions three times, Malin decided to return to the previous menu—this wasn’t something for a scholar like him to look at. Better to look at something easy to understand.
With that thought, Malin opened the photo folder.
Hmm, Karn Kajad appeared to be a somewhat melancholic man, usually photographed in dark green military uniform, sometimes in civilian clothes.
"Eh, what’s this, who’s this man?"
Maya had been nestling beside Malin but noticed that he was browsing something unfamiliar. The big Cat Girl snuggled into Malin’s arms, peering curiously at it and asking.
"It’s something found in that high tower; it’s a ’memory unit’ left by a man named Karn Kajad..." Right, calling it a memory unit should explain it.
"Is he an ancient human, eh, isn’t this our Panthera kind?" Maya pointed at a recent photo of Karn Kajad that Malin had just flipped to, where the young man in a one-piece civilian uniform was holding a young Panthera cub.
"Wow, what’s this?" Lillim heard Maya’s puzzled comment and immediately hopped onto the bed. The little lamb nestled into Maya’s arms and craned her neck to see the picture.
So Malin introduced the tablet once again, and now, all the girls gathered around.
"Aren’t you looking anymore?" Malin turned to Clovis.
The Bunny Girl nodded, "Instead of wasting time, it’s better to look at what you have. After all, these are precious memories from before the Great Destruction. This man... did he keep Panthera as pets?"
"That’s probably correct." Malin flipped through some more photos, and what they all saw were interactions between Karn Kajad and his pet Leopard Girl.
"Before the Great Destruction, were we Orcs considered pets by Old Humanity?" Lillim furrowed her brows.
Malin smiled and patted her head, and the little lamb smiled and shook her head, "If it’s a pet, then it’s a pet."
As Malin continued scrolling down, he saw war scenes—the sky had turned dark green, and deformed bio-humans were falling from it.
These bio-humans originally meant to replace the living in working in space suddenly mutated, began to reproduce in large numbers. Malin saw the Eiffel Iron Tower blown down, the starry sky at night aflame with burning star-rings, and zombies sweeping across entire regions like waves.
In the last section of the recording, a one-legged Kahn Kajad, with the help of Number Seventeen, entered the top floor, where he ordered Miss Isabella to arrange it to resemble his own apartment. He died after recording the message that Malin had heard earlier.
"He was like a hero." Although the girls didn’t understand what he was saying, Faye commented while looking at the young man bowing his head in the final scene.
Malin nodded, yes, in that era, countless young men like him bled and sacrificed themselves, yet still couldn’t prevent the arrival of destruction. In the end, they must have used nuclear weapons.
"My girls, no matter what, you must bury what we’ve seen today deep in your hearts," Malin said as he started to look through other files.
The girls watched Malin’s fingers flip through the screen until he found an advertisement.
The name was simple, the latest product recommendations from Kajad Pet Store.
Malin opened the video, which began with a PowerPoint-like presentation, displaying various orc species on the screen.
There were all sorts of orcs, the Bunny Girls like Clovis, the Big-eared Foxes like Matilda, the Werewolves like Jessica, the little lambs like Lillim, and the finale was the Leopard Girls like Maya.
"It seems like they’re all female," Faye frowned, "In the era before the Great Destruction, if orcs were pets, then what about elves like me? That man looked like a normal human."
While she was speaking, a new screen popped up, this time featuring male orc species, all adorable boys.
"Ah, I suppose the Old Humanity wouldn’t have imagined the modern-day bears would get so big," Clovis sighed as she watched the bear orc on the screen.
"Yes, they’ve reverted to their ancestors. Look, adult male Pantheras were only about one meter four in that era, but now they’re almost two meters tall. They must have undergone some sort of reversion," Jessica commented.
"But it still doesn’t explain the origin of pointy ears like mine and round ears like Malin’s."
Faye looked somewhat anxious, and Malin patted her shoulder, "Don’t worry, perhaps elves are a branch of humanity that emerged after the Great Destruction."
"No, I’d rather be a pet. All my sisters are, but not me, that’s just unfair," Faye said.
Clovis was the first to laugh, "It doesn’t matter. The Great Destruction is so far in the past now, we are all members of the civilized world."
Then the other girls hugged Faye in turn.
Malin continued to select a new video to watch.
"Ah, look, Faye, elves have appeared," he said.
The newly appeared video was also an introduction to pets. Having seen these, Malin instinctively felt a sense of sadness, "In the era of the Great Destruction, genetic technology was far beyond imagination. Humanity could cobble together gene sets like building blocks, creating entirely new species. I understand these videos, humanity treated you as commodities... I’m sorry, girls."
"You too, Mr. Malin, how could you not be with those round ears of yours?"
"Exactly, Mr. Malin, you don’t need to apologize."
Lillim and Clovis both assured Malin that there was no need for him to apologize.
Malin smiled awkwardly, and then the new video began to play.
This time, Malin saw the emergency rations.
The girls saw it too, and Faye glanced at the screen, then turned her head to look at the emergency rations lying in front of the carriage exit, "Are Spirits also a product of the era before the Great Destruction?"
"...No, the emergency rations should be the descendants of that era’s pet bears, which underwent reversion or mutation. They are much stronger than their ancestors," Clovis, as a professional, remarked, "What’s that number for?"
"3000 Union Currency, it’s like money, similar to our Sydney dollars," Malin explained.
"It sounds like a big number, but in the era before the Great Destruction, it must have been just a small amount of money. After all, I just saw floating motorbikes in the background, and we still can’t replicate those," Faye said, fascinated by the machinery.
The video that followed was more pet information. Unlike the earlier orc species, Malin saw many animal pets, like Spotty, the Snow Leopard pet was also there, and it looked very cute, not as large as the current Spotty.
"I’ve heard people say that the time before the Great Destruction was like paradise. Now it seems that it was only a paradise for some," Clovis reflected, and the girls all agreed.
