Chapter 539: Three hundred and sixty-nine: The Old Days (Part 5)
On the rooftop, the gryphons refused to carry Malin again. When Jessica confirmed that Matilda had begun to run a fever, Malin once more opened the portal, then, holding Matilda, he and Jessica and Clovis entered the portal together.
"Such a situation has never occurred before, Lord Malin. My old assault team didn’t have an orc either." Dante followed, his face full of anxiety, "Damn it, having heard all you said, those zombies were actually weapons manufactured by the old world..."
"I personally suggest that you keep this secret to yourself, and also, could you contact the Churches in the Eastern Region for me? Ask them for a cure for the undead poison. Matilda’s initial condition was very bad, I’m afraid she won’t live long." Malin looked at Dante, who agreed immediately, then went to the local Church of Justice, deciding to make inquiries through the Church channels.
Malin asked Jessica to go home and call Faye and the others, then he went to the Church of Justice with Clovis, taking Matilda with them.
Soon, a wizard who had been with Malin before was found. He was a commoner from the Eastern Kingdom, and also a bear person. When he arrived, Malin almost didn’t recognize him—the bear person seemed to be completely furless, totally different from those he had seen in Parol City before.
Then he learned that this bear person had originally been poisoned by the zombies. Surviving the great disaster, he had accidentally triggered his Spiritual Energy, but because of his low Elemental Affinity, he could only take the risky path to become a wizard. He was among the second batch of wizards to flee, and was now no longer a wizard. Having the gift of Spiritual Energy, he was chosen by Maya’s mentor as her new apprentice—Maya now had a little junior.
Though it was hard to say this guy was little, compared with his kind, he could be considered small and thin.
"Mr. Malin, I fell into a coma within the first hour after being poisoned, and it wasn’t until five days later that I miraculously woke up, whereas Lady Matilda still has a clear consciousness. I believe it must be that the potion delayed and reduced the effects of the undead poison."
"See, I’m definitely fine." Matilda proudly patted her chest, "Mr. Malin, don’t worry about me."
"I’m worried to death. I can’t help but think, if you stupidly get yourself killed, how am I going to explain to everyone at the Church of Justice?" Malin patted the big-eared fox girl’s head, "You rest first, take the potion regularly. I’ve already asked someone to confirm if there’s a specific antidote."
"Ah, speaking of a specific drug, I brought back that zombie’s arm." Then Malin dug out an arm from this silly girl’s bag, "Good, I’ll have the druids try to analyze the poison." Malin handed the arm to the youngster who had come at the news, instructing him to take this item to the members of the Holy Oak Tree congregation—even if Matilda didn’t need it, it’s always best to be prepared.
Then someone from the Church of Justice in Matilda’s hometown arrived—a fox woman, her face full of sorrow; she burst into tears as soon as she entered, not even looking around—it seemed as though the foxes too had a sense of what was happening; to them, the incident with Matilda seemed like a certain death.
So when this lady saw Matilda sitting up in bed looking at her as if she were looking at a fool, she immediately widened her eyes in shock, "Matilda! Weren’t you poisoned by a zombie?!"
"Yes, but I’m fine now."
"I thought you were a goner!" The young lady was extremely happy, embracing Matilda, "My goodness, this must be the blessing of the Lord of Justice."
Malin smiled at this and with a glance stopped Matilda from saying what she wanted to explain.
Let the lady believe what she wanted; as long as the deity really helped, Malin didn’t mind letting her think so.
Matilda really did seem to be completely fine, but Malin still sat by her side until the girls all came over. Malin recounted the earlier events, and the girls showed expressions of joy from having survived a catastrophe.
Only Matilda was very curious about Malin’s adventures, so Malin specifically recounted it for her.
"I’m so curious," the Big-eared Fox sighed, then shook her head with some discomfort, "I feel so dizzy, Mr. Malin."
Malin reached out and found that the girl seemed to have an even higher fever.
So, he took out the medicinal potion he carried with him; the fruit of the World Tree had the advantage of minor side effects. In this initial acute phase, it would be better to have Matilda drink another bottle.
After this potion was downed, Malin could confirm through the wound on the girl’s hand that the situation was improving—the inflammation and swelling of the wound were no longer widespread, and the reddened spots that had spread out were also beginning to fade.
"Without this potion, she would have been doomed," said the Church official called by Dante, who had passed through ten teleportation gates with their special potions, only to find Matilda had fallen asleep upon arrival.
The lady said this decisively after inspecting Matilda’s wounds.
Thus, Malin very appropriately gave the lady ten bottles of potion, and several weapons produced by the forge.
The lady seemed very satisfied; she thanked Malin, which made him quite embarrassed. After sending her off, Malin then received several other representatives, all of whom were the most skilled officials of their respective Churches. Malin hosted them one by one, allowing them to inspect Matilda’s wounds, and then sent them off with gifts.
All the ladies had come at Malin’s request, so he had to behave most graciously.
Once it was confirmed that Matilda was alright, Malin burst through the doors and headed straight to the fortress. The Gryphon Knights had just returned, and without a word, Malin detained the two leaders of the Gryphon pen—you choosey feathered creatures, if it hadn’t been for the girls’ pleas, Malin would have stewed your whole family today.
After laying down the law, Malin returned to Carterburg and once again made sure Matilda was fine before he finally set his mind at ease.
"You do care quite a bit about Matilda," Nova said the next day, even bringing potions herself, "Next time, ask me before you get desperate, after all, the Farol Principality has the most experience with zombie poison."
Malin felt a bit helpless about this; in the heat of the moment, who would think of that, but fortunately, the princess’s arrival was strange, and her departure was swift, leaving Malin somewhat reluctant to probe further.
But Malin did confirm Nova’s wish... Never mind, Malin found he still couldn’t refuse this girl.
After all, she came here with potions, without even bringing her guards.
As she was leaving, Malin followed her out and escorted the princess away; she seemed to be in a very good mood, "Thank you, Mr. Malin."
"... It’s me who should be thanking you, after all, you came before me. If I hadn’t had the potion, you know better than I what would have become of Matilda," Malin asked with a smile.
"Yes, some advised me, having one less rival is much better than having one more. I refused," said the princess standing before the teleportation portal, "because I don’t think that matters. What matters is how to win your heart."
