Chapter 529: Chapter 360: Choice (Part 5)
When the train departed from Rongma, Her Highness the Princess made a point to come and say farewell. The northern nobles seemed already aware that their princess and Malin had fulfilled their agreement—they didn’t know she saw them as foes.
Such is the bitter fruit of asymmetric information.
Malin nodded his head in greeting, which was a gesture of courtesy. His girls, on the other hand, hugged Nova goodbye, playing out a scene of deep sisterly affection.
And the princess, she didn’t skimp on the hugs either. She embraced Malin and Rewo, and even kissed the former goodbye.
The latter grimaced with distaste.
In the matter of facing the princess, Malin found he had something in common with Rewo.
"I see a vengeful spirit bent on revenge," Rewo said bluntly.
Malin could relate to that. He knew all too well what a girl of her age would do to survive.
He hadn’t believed a word she said that day—the so-called "You are a merchant, I am the merchandise" was nothing but the greatest sacrifice a girl seeking vengeance could make.
Malin was certain that if the nobles were overthrown, this future queen would surely treat her husband as a brand-new rival.
Even as an enemy.
Malin had no intention of pulling chestnuts out of the fire for her. If this nation truly needed redemption, it should come from the collective self-rescue of the Farolians, not the so-called salvation by a handful of people.
The reason Malin hadn’t refused her... was simply for the sake of his girls.
But Malin believed the princess would eventually slip up. Her ambition was visible to the naked eye, her schemes known to all.
Hmm, we’ll see about that.
With these thoughts in mind, the train carrying Malin left the platform. Under Faye’s command, who was pinching her waist, Malin had no choice but to wave farewell to the princess.
"Don’t be like that, Mr. Malin. She doesn’t seem tired of you," Faye said, leaning on Malin’s shoulder after the train had traveled a fair distance. For some reason, Malin thought of four words for his shoulder—unable to bear the burden.
"Malin, you always say life is full of disappointments. When you think about it, Princess Nova is actually quite pitiful, so, could you help her out?" The half-elven beauty with long ears and white fur wheedled in Malin’s ear.
Malin remained silent.
No way! How can a man admit to being tired! And to be seduced by such bribery... I, Malin, cannot be enticed by mere temptation!
"Malin." Faye cooed.
Malin snorted.
"Lillim." Faye called out.
Malin continued to snort—Do you really look down on me that much, girl? Even Lillim wants to try this tactic? What a joke!
Lillim approached.
"Charge!" Faye used her taming skill.
Lillim raised her head.
Malin rolled his eyes: "Alright, alright, I’ll help, okay?"—This damn girl, to think she would betray her own husband for the sake of another woman!
"See, that settles it." Faye said with a smile, gave Malin a peck: "We’ll make you something delicious tonight."
"Really?" Malin looked up.
"Really, don’t worry, it will definitely be the tastiest," Faye promised.
This certainly raised some anticipation in Malin.
.........
In the afternoon, Malin specifically started sunbathing on the roof of the car—the sunshine in this region was nice, and the girls all said that they wanted to tan to a beautiful complexion. Naturally, the boy from the Moriti family couldn’t climb up to the roof, but his female cousin mingled with Malin’s girls.
"Mr. Malin is really impressive," the young lad with Malin exclaimed.
"Ah?" Malin, who was busy writing, turned to glance at the boy.
"Even the princess has fallen for you, you’ve already collected two princesses!" The boy said with great admiration.
Well, it was just great admiration, nothing else, absolutely zero political acumen. But considering that this boy obviously wasn’t being groomed as an heir, there was no point in critiquing his insight.
"Do you also fancy your Princess Nova?" Malin asked curiously.
"..." The young lad showed an unexpected look of confusion, "Mr. Malin, have I offended you?"
"Not at all," Malin asked with some confusion.
"If I said I liked Her Highness, you could challenge me to a duel right away. Aren’t you just trying to kill me?" The young kid said.
You’re quite the slippery one, do I need a reason to kill you?
Malin rolled his eyes and then continued typing.
Traveling south from Rongma, they first passed through the Sunlight Lake District, a very beautiful place, and most importantly, the lakes in this district glowed at night.
How much radiation must there be to make that happen?
For safety reasons, Malin eventually chose a different path—the train conductor specifically came to ask for Malin’s opinion, to which Malin explained with divination.
It was a magical response, and the conductor preferred to err on the side of caution, so he had to switch to another line.
Eventually, the train bypassed the Ridge-Under Fishing Village and then headed to its next station.
.........
After circumventing the fishing village, the Raging Sea began to appear before Malin’s eyes—the sky turned completely dark, like in the tales of the Great Destruction Era, sadly without zombies. But there were other things—such as the sea-dwelling amphibious spirits now chasing the train, screeching as they joined in the pursuit.
Unfortunately, they posed no danger at all—their speed couldn’t match the train’s, and their shells were as thin as tin foil against bullets. Malin killed a few, and these creatures completely lacked brains, as they kept chasing the train until it left them far behind.
This leg of the journey lasted three days, and Malin saw a city by the sea, Latindro City.
This was an interesting city because it was the only city in the Farol Principality that provided seafood. Although the ferocious spirits had been proven inedible, some seafood was still suitable for consumption.
However, both the girls and Malin expressed their mistrust of seafood as soon as the train entered the city—please, are these things really safe to eat?
Malin couldn’t help but wonder, looking at the seafood that resembled deformed creatures.
But Malin still watched them eat these seafood products, so for the next two days, he had to take care of the food for himself and the girls.
Luckily, they brought enough food with them.
Unfortunately, a giant fish hung near the station, its thirteen eyes staring straight at the station.
"Can this fish really be eaten?" Malin specifically asked the person in charge of the Church of Justice.
The latter nodded, "Absolutely, please trust us," the head of the Church of Justice replied emphatically.
