Chapter 507: Chapter 343: That Summer Solstice (Part 1)_2
Malin had once wondered, for with the vision of an astrologer and star predictor, Malin’s was the horoscope of the king of all kings. Considering his immense reputation in the world of craftsmen, everyone said Malin would be the greatest king of craftsmen in history, those before him mere children wearing crowns of brass.
Malin could only laugh it off—they would never understand that since his youth, he had been brought up with the belief that nothing is as important as one’s own kind. In his eyes, nameless mortals had built a beautiful world with their blood and flesh as the cost.
The vision revealed by Malin’s soul was a future free of oppression, where every person was their own king.
"Alright, my children, come on in and have a seat with this old lady."
Malin followed the elderly woman into the grand entrance hall of the mansion.
Inside, people were standing on both sides, some clapping, others greeting, and Malin also saw representatives from various Churches.
Malin walked towards them smiling, first to greet the elderly lady from the Church of the Harvest Goddess, "Madam, hello."
The lady smiled and embraced Malin, "Old Hoffman’s godson, welcome to Galicano."
"I’m here, madam, may I stay at the Church tonight?" This was a statement of intent—given Malin’s status, he could only reside in the Harvest Goddess Church if he were to stay somewhere, unless this city lacked one.
"Of course, my child, the Church is always your home," the old lady embraced Malin once more, then stepped back with a smile.
"Hello, child walking upon the Golden Prairie." The Bishop of the Church of Justice in Galicano was a middle-aged man with a stern demeanor; he extended his hand and shared a firm handshake with Malin, the kind between men.
Withdrawing his hand, the corners of his mouth turned up slightly, "Welcome to Galicano, sir."
"When I’m free tomorrow, I will certainly visit your Church," Malin said as the World Tree Saplings on his wrist wriggled out and bloomed at his fingertips, then fruited, eventually leaving four fruits in Malin’s hand, which he held out to the man, "There is a saying among the Thanan people, ’to offer Buddha flowers borrowed from another.’ I think these fruits are something you should accept."
The man was silent for a moment, eventually smiling as he cradled the four fruits with both hands, "Thank you, sir."
"You and your parishioners walk the righteous path and deserve praise."
After bidding farewell to him, Malin opened his arms wide for a hearty hug with the Dwarf before him, and then both men lifted silver flasks, guzzling down the liquid inside fit to be industrial alcohol.
The friendship between a mighty man of one meter twenty in height and another of one meter twenty in girth needed no verbal explanation—one gulp down!
After embracing the Dwarf once again, Malin belched and extended his hand to greet the Bishop of the Church of the War God, "Hello."
"Hello, the Lord has always instructed us to persuade you to convert, but we know your faith is unshakeable," the old lady said with a wistful smile.
Malin laughed heartily, finding it amusing to tease this person for the first time, and he also marveled at how his performance had given everyone so many illusions.
Malin had no faith in the Harvest Goddess Church—what was unshakeable was his loyalty to the knowledge he had accumulated.
After meeting with each of the Church dignitaries, Malin turned his head and, under the introduction of Lady Moriti, started to familiarize himself with the local nobles.
Of course, the lady did not bring out every distant nephew of her seventh uncle to introduce them to Malin; she introduced only the most prominent nobles.
Malin shook hands with each of them, and Duochi trailing behind him did not dare to breath too heavily—these grand nobles were existences with whom he, as the fourth son of an Earl, had absolutely no connection.
Once the introductions were completed, the old lady finally acknowledged the little follower behind Malin with a smile, "This child, he’s a Richie, isn’t he?"
"Yes, madam." Malin was unsure whether Duochi was indeed one of her descendants, but considering Richie had entrusted the boy to him, he was bound to protect him fully.
"Greetings, great-grandmother, I am Duochi Moriti, the fourth son of Richie Moriti."
"It is good to see you so lively, my child."
The lady affectionately patted Duochi’s head, dissolving the doubts in Malin’s mind.
"Mr. Richie has asked me to take this child to Anthony’s wedding." Malin repeated the matter truthfully.
Then the old lady pondered for a moment and finally stretched out her hand, gesturing to a young lady standing not far away, "Alice Greenleaf Moriti, the great-granddaughter of my eldest son." she introduced thus.
The girl with obvious elven lineage smiled as she lifted the hem of her long gown.
Malin was smiling too—if it were someone else, Malin would have been worried, but as it was this lady, Malin truly had no concern about her making the gesture to send her great-granddaughter.
"I’ve heard that you share a camaraderie with Anthony from the battlefield."
"Indeed, my lady."
"Since that’s the case, you’re gracing his wedding with your presence, I, an old woman, should also let my most beloved granddaughter bring a modest gift. How about I have her accompany you?" The elderly lady said with a smile, looking at Malin.
"I will definitely escort her to our destination and then bring her back to you unharmed."
At this point, Malin saw the laughter in the old lady’s eyes, that contented smile of an old fox pleased with her little fox’s watertight demeanor.
It made Malin’s impression of the old lady improve by quite a bit.
Then the old lady found an excuse for the young people to chat and left, leaving Malin with her granddaughter.
"Mr. Malin." The young woman, towering in stature, leaned forward slightly to look at Malin: "I have heard that you possess exceptional strength; I wonder, may I witness it myself?"
Malin was startled—wait a minute, the ambition behind tossing someone else’s daughter into the mix was practically public knowledge, but what’s with this Moriti family’s daughter doing the exact opposite? There must be some ulterior motive!
"Of course, given the chance, I will certainly let you have a look." With this in mind, a hint of joy appeared on Malin’s face—this little girl from the Moriti family better not be frightened too much.
"Malin, come, let’s dance." Faye approached and took Malin’s hand.
This made Malin realize—the Faye before him seemed to have returned to the height she was the first time he saw her.
Seemingly noticing the surprise written on Malin’s face, Faye proudly led him towards the dance floor: "This is my Transformation Technique."
Truth be told, Malin was quite moved.
A girl who could change for him, to be with him, to offer each other loyalty and love.
"Malin." The girl in the dance hall looked at Malin.
"What is it?" Malin, who was holding her, asked.
"I see that old lady standing there alone." The young woman’s words drew Malin’s attention toward the old lady’s side, and he saw her standing there, just one person watching the lively scene in the hall.
She was Legendary, and yet her husband had not reached the pinnacle.
Lovers, in the end, were defeated by time, so the cruelest thing in this world is nothing but the anguish of parting in life and death.
"I must strive to achieve Legendary status, not just to make myself worthy of the Mowish surname, nor to make my mother touched and proud, but simply because I don’t want you, one day, to also stand there alone." Faye’s whisper came close to his ear.
Malin felt even more moved, and he held the girl in front of him: "Then we have a deal, I will wait for you, and you will wait for me."
"It’s ’us’." Faye said, glancing toward the side of the room.
Malin looked to the side and saw the girls, who were smiling and watching them attentively.
Malin smiled and nodded.
"Yes, it’s us." Malin began to move to the rhythm of the music, starting to wander with Faye.
That summer, we made an oath together.
We agreed to witness eternity.
