Chapter 476: Chapter 321: The Endless Night (Part 2)

Buffeted by the wind, the old lawyer shuddered as a troubling thought suddenly struck him.

"Soss, I asked you to feed my Phoenix-tail Bird. Have you fed it?"

"Yes, Teacher," the young man walking through the blizzard replied without turning his head.

The old lawyer clutched his chest in realization—his apprentice was dead.

The apprentice in front of him was an impostor; he never had a Phoenix-tail Bird, nor had he ever fed one.

His hand moved to his waist as he gripped the handle of his Revolver, "Soss, you’ve been of great help all this time."

"Oh, it’s nothing, I’m just doing my job for you, Teacher," a hint of a smirk sounded in his voice.

This exchange should have been heartwarming, but the old lawyer took a deep breath, "Soss, wait a moment, stop."

"Teacher..." The young apprentice came to a halt and turned around. Beneath the streetlight, he saw the old man in the blizzard, revolver in hand, looking at his apprentice with utter sorrow, "Where has my Soss gone?"

"Oh, did you find out?" The young man seemed slightly regretful as he cracked a smile, and at that moment, his jaw seemed to tear away from his face, stretching to his ears.

The old lawyer fired all the bullets in his Revolver in one breath.

Then he saw his apprentice recover from his backward fall; the apprentice looked at his teacher and shook his head. From the spot where the bullet had hit his forehead, the lead bullet was squeezed out by the regenerating flesh and blood: "Dear Mr. Higgs, I had already prepared your funeral. It’s a pity you didn’t appreciate it."

"Chaos!" In that moment, the old lawyer fully understood everything.

There were Chaos infiltrators within the business guild. They had incited the guild’s members to wage war against Mr. Malin, killing workers in Malin’s factory and then framing him. They used such despicable methods to halt the operations of Malin’s factory. Then, today at noon, they incited a clash between the workers and the police.

Such clever schemes, and now tonight, by killing all these lawyers, they aimed to spark an even greater conflict... It seemed very likely that Mr. Casaman Saryan had already been assassinated.

And next, they would kill more, sparking greater and sharper conflicts, until the two sides were unrestrained and the city ran red with blood...

"You all deserve to die!" the old man roared with anger.

"Maybe you should think of a way to die instead," the young Chaos said with a smile, until a Crossbow Arrow suddenly struck his forehead, and he realized he had instinctively tried to dodge the silvery projectile.

But his actions were in vain. The Crossbow Arrow tore through muscle, pierced the skull, and finally, the blessed bolt turned his brain into a combustible tissue. He wailed as he collapsed to the ground, burning in the blizzard, illuminated by the Holy Energy, and lighting up half the street.

The old lawyer turned to see a slender figure standing in the shadows.

"Mr. Malin sent me to ask how you are doing," a youthful female voice said.

The old lawyer gave a wry smile and shook his head, "Usually, when someone says that, it means they’re about to kill me."

"Mr. Malin never kills the innocent. We’ve already rescued your apprentice, Mr. Higgs; he was severely injured and has been taken to Benevolent Hospital. Is there anything else we can help you with?" The figure stepped into the light, revealing a werewolf girl in a strange coat.

"No, thank you. I need to return to my hotel now to confirm who exactly was stirring up trouble at noon today," Higgs said as he looked at the girl before him.

"You don’t need to worry about that." She smiled and shook her head.

"I don’t need to worry about it?" The old man furrowed his brows, but finally, he looked at the werewolf girl, "Mr. Malin... Has he made thorough preparations for these Chaos...?"

"Every traitor to this world must be held accountable, sir." The werewolf girl stepped back into the shadow, "Sir, the night is deep and the snow is heavy. Why not go back to the inn and have another drink to warm up?"

The old man remained silent for a while, and after making sure she had left, he finally turned and walked towards the Thainan-owned bar.

......

"The snow is getting heavier," Malin observed, watching the figures in grey and white camouflage uniforms gradually approach the Chaos team’s residence, extending his umbrella a bit more to cover Faye.

"Is this what you call, ’Mortals’ self-salvation’?"

"Yes, if this world relies solely on Transcendents for salvation, it would be unfair to them, for no one is born the savior of this world. And for these mortals... If they are not taught how to face Chaos, how to ruthlessly kill those who side with it, it would be unfair to them as well."

"Can’t you cut off their path of self-salvation?"

"Indeed, every person must learn to save themselves, because anyone who cannot protect themselves cannot hope to protect their family. I believe they will manage to take down this stronghold; let’s move on to the next location," said Malin, finally reassured as they eliminated the lookouts outside.

"You love to take risks, Malin," Faye turned to look at him.

"Because I must believe in everything I say. It would be truly sad if one couldn’t trust their own words," Malin said with a smile, reaching out his hand. With Faye’s help, a portal opened before him.

"You pass, barely," Faye gave her appraisal.

"It’s a big step for me," Malin said, and taking Faye by the hand, they stepped through the portal.
