Chapter 431: Chapter 288: Before the End of the Competition (Part 4)_2
```
"What?" Lady Anna started, then immediately understood and turned around, somewhat surprised, "Is it really that?"
"Yes, my lady, I have no reason to lie to you. This child’s spiritual energy has controlled that thing on its own. I think we must contact the Church of Justice, who are proficient in handling chaotic energy."
Then, contrary to Constantine’s expectations, an assistant priest from the Church of Justice arrived quickly. After confirming the situation, he provided coordinates and took Lady Anna and the two children back to the church.
Old Constantine and the carriage driver, as contacts, were also taken away.
To be honest, Constantine himself was aware of it, but the procedure for those exposed to chaotic energy was just so, and the old man could not expect to carve out any exceptions for himself—only those with experience can truly comprehend how terrifying the world of spiritual energy is, and how thin the line sometimes is between a sage and a wizard.
Every day, psychics face danger.
Luckily for them, they were received by High Priest Charlotte—she is the head Punisher of the Church of Justice in the Sydney diocese of Regensburg, equal in rank to the Bishop, usually in charge of matters relating to spiritual energy.
The moment she saw Constantine, she walked over and shook his hand, "It’s the troublemaking youngsters being sent over this time, eh?"
Because Lady Anna had gone to talk to the Bishop, Charlotte only knew Constantine, perhaps because she hadn’t activated her psychic vision, she didn’t notice anything unusual about Malin—she didn’t even realize Malin and Faye were there.
Was it consciousness shielding, or something else?
While Constantine was puzzled, he pointed at Malin, "It’s Mr. Malin."
"Mr. Malin, oh my goodness, where is he... oh my goodness, Mr. Malin, I’m sorry, I really didn’t notice you." The middle-aged man walked up to Malin Gaiate feeling somewhat embarrassed, and as he was about to extend his hand, he was stopped by Constantine, "Wait, Charlotte, you better take a look at him."
"Take a look at him..." At first, the High Priest looked puzzled, then her eyes widened, and ultimately she turned to glance at Malin, "May the Lord have mercy! Mr. Malin, do you not feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
"Not at all, sir." Malin replied quickly, and he seemed to show no sign of discomfort whatsoever.
Charlotte then performed a chaotic energy purification ritual with him, and Constantine watched as the small spiritual body under Malin’s conscious control poured that chaotic energy into the ritual magic circle.
"The ritual was a great success." Charlotte came out and shook Constantine’s hand, "Thank you. I almost came into unprotected contact with Mr. Malin, which is frightening. It’s the first time I’ve seen a librarian able to control chaotic energy trying to contaminate its host."
"No, Mr. Malin is not a librarian." Constantine continued with his embarrassment.
At that moment, Anna appeared at the door, stumbling alongside the running Bishop.
"Your Excellency, it has been resolved."
"That’s wonderful, Charlotte. I heard that Mr. Malin almost went mad after his spiritual body was contaminated."
"It wasn’t contaminated, Mr. Malin’s spiritual body controlled that chaotic energy on its own."
Several psychic masters chatted among themselves for a while, eventually letting Constantine conclude the matter.
"I think there are three points to make about this incident. First, Mr. Malin’s psychic abilities consider this event to be very normal, since he has an affinity for spell formation; it’s practically a foregone conclusion these days that an excellent spell affinity bearer like him would become a psychic," Constantine said, glancing at Malin standing to the side, "Secondly, Mr. Malin clearly does not hold the sequence of a sage, yet why was he able to deep dive into the era of the Great Destruction? According to his explanation, I believe he indeed reached that timeline. The only doubt now is that, according to our historical records, the era of the Great Destruction was an era when Old Humanity destroyed each other, and I have never seen any records of Chaos invasion."
Here, Constantine paused to think, "After hearing about Mr. Malin’s previous experiences, I made a bold hypothesis—that the Old Epoch Mr. Malin deep-dived into is not the Old Epoch familiar to us belonging to our timeline, but one belonging to another timeline! That’s the third point I wanted to make."
"An excellent hypothesis, but how exactly did Mr. Malin deep dive? Relying only on his spiritual body while asleep? But then, what were those previous experiences of his?"
```
A group of elders began another round of discussion.
Of course, in the end, they did not come to any conclusion, but Constantine was very pleased—because the child had finally decided to choose the Sage Sequence as his second long sequence.
It wasn’t until then that Constantine realized, the child could actually choose three major sequences; the power of his Spiritual Body was beyond his imagination!
"A fine choice, this sequence can greatly enhance your original Mage profession, and the intelligence added by your Detective Sequence is beneficial for both your Mage profession and Sage Sequence," Constantine felt a flicker of joy—such a strong Spiritual Body, the child would definitely climb to the highest peak of the Sage Sequence, achieving a height that no one in this era had reached.
He had to live longer, just to witness this child achieve legendary status.
Constantine silently swore.
Before bidding farewell to the young man, out of professional habit, Constantine asked a question.
"Child, what do you think power is?"
......
Malin felt that today’s meeting was a good choice; it made him understand many things he hadn’t understood before. So, when it was time for Lord Constantine to leave, he took the initiative to escort the elder out of the Church.
When they reached the carriage stop, and Constantine was waiting for his family’s carriage while Malin prepared to leave, the elder stopped him.
The question "Child, what do you think power is?" took Malin by surprise, but he quickly responded: "Power is the tool in our hands, my lord."
The elder smiled and nodded, apparently satisfied with the answer: "Then, my child, if power thrusts you onto a throne, if power makes you supreme, would you accept such a fate?"
Malin considered for a moment: "Then, Lord Constantine, may I ask, what kind of price would such power, such a fate demand of me?"
With a wave of his hand, the elder stated: "Everything you see as a price, what would you do?"
Malin laughed and then shook his head: "I would take the heads of such fate and power from their necks, and stuff them into their asses."
The elder laughed heartily and patted Malin’s shoulder: "I hope you remember everything you said today. Oh, and remember to invite me to witness when you drink the Sage Magic Potion; I have high hopes for you."
"Thank you for your guidance."
Malin watched the elder leave—he could sense that the old man had been on guard against him. Actually, when putting himself in the other’s shoes, Malin could understand; after all, not everyone could see through deceit at a glance and notice the Chaotic Energy trying to distort him, and manage to control it successfully.
In the realm of Psychic Energy, only the cunning can live long; if Mr. Constantine were naively sweet even in the slightest, he wouldn’t have lived to such an old age.
All in all, an interesting old man.
This made Malin think of old Hoffman... after the contest, he would return to Carterburg to accompany him for the last stretch.
And then... then to find his cheap father; no telling whether the guy is dead or alive.
He hoped he was still alive... at least to leave a whole corpse behind.
Or to say... at least to leave something behind when purified.
