Chapter 395: 262nd Chapter: Wish_2
"You should address him as ’Your Excellency,’" the Divine Master said, unmoved by the man’s status."You expect someone old enough to be his father to call an apprentice ’Your Excellency’?" the male cat-person said, walking over to the window of the private box and shaking his head as he looked at the arena: "It’s either you who is mad, or I am."
"Don’t call a kid who can use a five-ring spell formation an apprentice, and besides, he’s already at level nine now, level nine at fifteen years old. To say his heart is as tough as steel wouldn’t be an exaggeration," Ollie finished, flicking her tail at her fellow cat-person: "You’re blocking my view."
"The people haven’t even taken the stage yet." Despite saying this, the male stepped aside, making space, and looked curiously at her: "By the way, didn’t you take action against that Malin?"
"I’m not some bastard from the Rasmusen family," Ollie snorted and watched as the two teams of children took to the field: "See that cat-person? She’s my apprentice."
As if he hadn’t heard the Divine Master’s assessment, the male cat-person watched the little cat step onto the platform: "So that’s the human world’s apprentice you mentioned. I’m quite curious, how a youngling from the human world could possess the potential to become a Shaman."
"Yes, I couldn’t believe it either, but it’s the truth, she is Maya Gaiate," Ollie said while sizing up the Rasmusen before her.
The latter fell silent for a moment, then shook his head: "You’re saying... she..."
"She’s your little daughter, the child your family personally cast aside, the same one that old Hoffman picked up," Ollie revealed.
The man fell silent, eventually turning to leave: "I have some things to do, please convey my regards and the goodwill from The Great Forest Land to Mr. Malin on my behalf."
"I will," Ollie watched as the figure eventually left the private box, her Spiritual Energy closing the door for her, and then the Divine Master smiled.
"Trouble from the Rasmusen house, you had this day coming."
......
Exiting the box, the cat-person walked to the end of the corridor. On the field below, the names of the contestants were being announced. He understood the common tongue and could understand Sydney’s language, too. When the half-human stood next to the little cat, raising her hand and loudly introducing her name to everyone, the large cat pulled out a cigarette case from his pocket.
So... her name really is Maya.
"This cat-person is so cute; she’ll undoubtedly be a beautiful woman when she grows up," someone commented.
"Even now, she’s quite the beauty," another added.
The humans below were conversing, and as he listened to their banter while smoking, their conversation seemed to plunge into depths, and with his hand loosened, the half-smoked cigarette fell, ultimately sparking a piercing scream below.
Humans truly are a peculiar race, in heat all year round, exposing their proclivities anytime, anywhere, truly living a carefree life.
Descending the stairs and reaching the exit corridor, the large cat once again turned his attention to the competition field.
The match was about to begin.
Torn between leaving and staying, he ultimately flipped a coin, then caught it with his outstretched hand.
Not leaving after all.
The man didn’t even look at the coin’s outcome; he just stood there, watching the children take their places on the field, and also saw his daughter holding a vine bow made of World Tree saplings.
Indeed, it was a World Tree sapling; he had seen it before in the hands of the Grand Divine Master. He couldn’t mistake the divine nature of those branches.
His daughter couldn’t possibly have such branches; who gave them to her?
...Her brother? Malin?
Yes, intelligence reports had mentioned he owned two World Tree saplings. By that account, it seemed Maya also had a kind heart; otherwise, she wouldn’t possess a branch of the World Tree.
Such a rare object, if taken by force by those of a different faction or with conflicting ideals, would only lead to one’s own ruin.
If that’s the case, with Maya on stage, Malin would likely be nearby, watching over her. The large cat scanned the surroundings but couldn’t spot the youthful appearance mentioned in the reports. However, the big cat didn’t feel that the brother wasn’t there.
He must be.
Because his daughter carried an aura of wanting to prove herself.
After all, she was a child of the Rasmusen family; even though discarded, who’s to say he ever thought of abandoning her.
How could one person ever stand against their own family, when the unity of the Rasmussen clan is sacred and inviolable?
The large cat looked at his daughter competing in the arena with some sadness because he could not acknowledge her, he couldn’t betray his family, not even for a second.
But he also felt a great relief, because ultimately at his pleading and the Divine Masters’ requests, the family finally agreed to hand his daughter over to the human who had traveled to The Great Forest Land instead of killing her.
Now, he saw his child had grown up and embarked on her own path of destiny; in the future, she would have her own family too, and it would be best if there was a husband who loved her.
With this thought, the large cat turned around, preparing to leave.
Staying to watch for a while was already a violation of the original agreement; he couldn’t continue to make mistakes.
Plus, his daughter was performing well, and the scales of victory were already tilting towards her team. He thought it was best to leave the victory to the young ones, and at that moment of turning away, he noticed the flicker of Spell Formation light in the direction his daughter was facing.
That bright flame... the opponent hadn’t held back!
The next second, a massive wave of fire struck his daughter’s side of the team. The large cat turned, reaching the railing, trying to see the situation within the smoke created by the explosion of the Spell Formation.
The instructor seats from both sides were on a knife-edge, which made the large cat notice a small figure. He just stood on the side of the field, one hand leaning on a World Tree Sapling, the other waving a small fan.
Why aren’t you, her brother, charging forward!
The large cat was furious at first, then he thought of something—why wasn’t he charging forward?
The World Tree Sapling in his daughter’s hand was clearly his, meaning he should be the first to know if his sister was in danger, which also meant... he wouldn’t be indifferent unless—
With this understanding, the large cat saw the dissipating smoke on the field, witnessed the activation of the anti-magic barrier, and saw his daughter with her bow. He saw her relaxed bowstring, and the hole erosion in her opponent’s chest caused by the Elemental Arrow.
In the end, the opponent fell.
My daughter... the large cat placed his hands on the railing, looking at her silvery-white hair, the most notable trait of the Rasmussen clan.
My daughter is not a failure.
He was ecstatic inside.
He watched as the competition was suspended, as his daughter and her teammates were chased off the field, and as the guy with an Elemental Arrow through his chest was carried away—he was still alive; his daughter ultimately hadn’t resorted to killing.
He felt a slight regret, but more so, joy.
My daughter hasn’t been twisted by her origins, her heart is filled with kindness and serenity. Thanks to Mr. Hoffman, to all those who spoke out for us that day, and special thanks to Mister Gaiate, and to Malin... My daughter lives in happiness. Fate took her away from her parents, but in the end, it has given her compensation.
Then, the large cat’s facial muscles trembled, for he saw that child reaching out and hugging his daughter.
That’s my daughter! Get your damn hands off her back!
But soon, he saw the anxiety on his daughter’s face, the comfort he offered her, and the smile that blossomed on her face.
My daughter... this is her most beautiful moment.
In the end, the unqualified father stood up, then turned towards the exit.
My daughter, she has her own path after all. Being able to see her smile is the best reward destiny could offer me.
Thanks to destiny for letting me witness this moment.
The family gave up on you, but your father never did, so... live well, my daughter.
This is the first time I’ve called you this, and it will also be the last.
May Miss Maya Gaiate find joy, may her marriage be fulfilling, may her house be filled with children, and may she... enjoy a long life.
May the Lord have mercy.
