Chapter 393: Section 261: Remember_2
"Galileo del Brunie, Lord Malin," the old mage replied with a smile.
"I have a modest gift for you, Sir. I sense your body might not be in the best condition, so here," Malin tossed the potion to the old man, who was momentarily startled before catching it with a mage’s hand: "Such a surging life force!" The old man looked at Malin, very surprised.
"Fruits born of the Spiritual Energy with the World Tree Sapling. I hope you like it, and may you have a long life." Malin doffed his hat in respect and then walked into the portal without looking back.
......
The old mage fell silent for a moment before turning his gaze to the smiling Lady Anna: "My lady, your... " "Son-in-law."
With that answer, the old man chuckled bitterly, "Your son-in-law is indeed a generous man. He could feel the imbalance in my body, yet this potion is far too precious."
"He can make at least three potions a day, enough to feed the squirrels, so don’t worry too much about it," Lady Anna replied with a smile: "Besides, I am also leaving now. Please take good care of it."
"I wish you safety, my lady."
"And I wish you safety too, Old Galileo."
Once Lady Anna had stepped into the portal, the old mage’s two apprentices gathered around, the young mage feeling the power within the potion: "My goodness, is this the power of the World Tree’s fruit?"
"Yes, it’s a life-saving Spiritual Medicine as well as a lethal poison. Anyone from the Evil Faction who drinks it will enter an irreversible Ashen State immediately. The divine power inherent in this holy medicine will completely Purify the recipient," the female mage said, shaking her head as she looked at the potion: "Mr. Malin is indeed a very generous man."
"Indeed, I could never bring myself to give away such numerous and expensive gifts," the young mage exclaimed.
Their youngest apprentice seemed puzzled, but that didn’t stop him from holding his head high: "Brother Malin is really generous!"
"You should call him Lord!" the young mage and the female mage rebuked in unison.
But their teacher stopped their scolding: "No, this is Raphael’s fortune, as Lord Malin obviously regards Raphael as his junior. He wouldn’t mind the boy calling him that."
Then the old mage turned to the current and future Barons: "I thought we might waste several weeks on the battlefield, but now it seems our cooperation has ended. We will depart at dawn. Baron, could you show us to our rest?"
"Of course, Mage Sir, please follow me and your apprentices," he replied.
Even the future Baron did not delay in addressing an old mage with such respect from the present Baron.
After all, a noble title is never the most universally recognized entity in this world.
......
Malin returned to his annex and glanced at his pocket watch, finding that there were four hours left until dawn. He removed his gear and stepped into the shower — while Lady Anna would certainly need a bath, Malin preferred showers.
After a shower, lathering up with soap, and giving himself a thorough rinse, the three World Tree Saplings returned to Malin’s arm, helping Bippo with his bath and the warm touch grooming Bippo’s fur. Malin then took the little one back to the living room.
Two mouse maids peeked out from the corridor: "The young ladies just went to sleep not long ago."
"So said the second sister among them."
Malin nodded and patted the heads of the two mouse maids: "You girls should go to sleep too."
He then returned to the girls’ quarters, where Melo silently opened the door for Malin. Barefoot on the carpet, he watched the girls sleeping huddled together on the large bed. Perhaps it was the slight shift in the airflow, Matilda’s ears turned towards Malin, but she settled down without further incident as Malin’s Spell Formation interfered.
In the end, Malin chose not to enter but closed the door behind him.
Walking down the corridor, he stepped out onto the balcony, the cool night air making him tighten the collar of his robe.
At this moment, the city lay under the dominion of night, seeming somewhat dark, but for that reason, when Malin looked up, he saw the magnificent Starry Sea.
It had been a long time since he had been so focused on gazing up at the dazzling starry river overhead.
Malin sat on the railing, while Bippo gazed at the Starry Sea, humming a tune its master couldn’t understand, which made Malin think of the creature girl in the tomb.
He pitied them, but he had a greater responsibility to the tens of thousands of survivors; he couldn’t kill them with his own hands because it went against his oath, but to save Faye and the others, as well as those tens of thousands of survivors, he had to kill that little girl.
In the end, he had made a trade with her, saving both Malin’s ideals and those survivors.
So, Malin reached out and pulled the furry little creature onto his lap, as Bippo hummed happily, and Malin gently stroked its small head.
The old dean once said, "Life is like a song you compose yourself." Malin didn’t understand it in his youth, and by the time he did, he realized that seeing through the world’s affairs was a proof of a person’s growth while also witnessing the cracks in a person’s heart.
With age came more wounds.
The sound of footsteps in the hallway made Malin raise his head to see Jessica, the werewolf girl who slept on the outer edge, unexpectedly appearing in his field of vision.
"Malin, you’re back, why not go into your room?" She walked over to him, "You’ve shrunk a little again."
"I didn’t want to disturb you guys." Malin smiled, and for some reason, even though he really hated when people looked down on him like that, when Jessica did it, he didn’t feel any different emotions in his heart.
"But I heard your heartbeat." The werewolf girl lowered her head and hugged Malin, "How is it in the Farol Principality?"
"A poor principality, their soldiers are still fighting Chaos with cold weapons."
"Yes, over the mountains, those dozen or so principalities on the peninsula are mostly like that, the wild climate of the Storm Sea prevents Thanan ships from landing, Carterburg is prosperous because of such favorable conditions," Jessica’s words solved a puzzle for Malin.
"Jessica." Malin called her name near the werewolf girl’s ear, and her white fur made his nose itch, "Your fluff is tickling my nose."
"I thought Mr. Malin would like it." The werewolf girl lifted her head and looked at Malin with a smile.
"I’m not a kid who likes furry toys." As he said this, Malin sighed and told Jessica everything that had happened that day.
The werewolf girl dragged a bench over to sit by and at that moment, she became Malin’s best listener.
By the time Malin had finished, he looked at her, "Do you think I was too generous in giving them those things?"
"I don’t think so, Mr. Malin, every investment you make is a very targeted business move, it was the same in Carterburg, before I met you, I had never heard of a child gaining so much in just a few years, the gifts Mr. Malin gave today will also one day become the most splendid entry on your investment success sheet," Jessica said.
Her words made Malin somewhat embarrassed; he smiled, if not for what he had seen and heard in his past life, he couldn’t have achieved all this: "I’m just a child standing on the shoulders of giants; all this should be credited to those predecessors."
His words made the werewolf girl shake her head, "Mr. Malin is always so humble."
The joy and respect in the werewolf girl’s eyes finally made Malin bow his head. He brushed away the stray hair on her forehead, then gave her forehead a kiss.
Let’s go back," he said."
"Yeah, let’s go back to the room and sleep."
Jumping down from the railing, Malin and the werewolf girl looked up at the night sky before leaving the balcony.
"Mr. Malin, Orcs have a legend that those who die for this world will become stars, looking after the world," the werewolf girl said, looking up at the night sky.
"The Starry Sea remembers the undying," Malin sighed, then took the werewolf girl’s hand.
"Yes, the Starry Sea remembers the undying," Jessica’s voice carried a hint of resolve.
