Chapter 358: Chapter 241: Past Events of the Royal City (Part 2)_2
Malin turned around and nodded, spreading his arms. Lorrin and Fio, as World Tree Saplings, emerged between them, burrowing into the ground before Malin and ultimately forming a beautiful wooden greatsword.
The waiter turned his head to glance at the judges, who clearly recognized the quality and nodded. The waiter then nodded at Malin, "Your Sequence and staircase."
"Staircase Ten, Apprentice, accepting challenges from Staircase Six and below." After watching the old men from the Quaiser family compete, Malin chickened out. Originally, he wanted to say anyone below Staircase Four was welcome, but considering that the two displayed both Positive and Negative Energy in their swordplay, Malin truly feared encountering a fierce man whose every strike was a blaze of fire.
So it was better to be modest and set his sights on Staircase Six.
Malin had already chickened out, but the waiter didn’t quite grasp his reasoning. After thinking it over and looking somewhat puzzled at Malin, the waiter once again sought the judges’ guidance. Someone stood up and nodded, so the waiter posted Malin’s challenge request.
And then a hand plucked it off.
The owner of the hand tossed the request back to the waiter and then strode toward Malin.
"That little maid of yours isn’t bad, though she’s highly deviant. However, I quite like her uniqueness," the youth said while pointing at Clovis sitting on the railing, then taking the greatsword handed to him by his servant, "I come from the Eastern Kingdom. You don’t need to know my name, and I don’t need to know your identity, but when I defeat you, you can offer her to save your pathetic life."
Looking at the young man with grey hair, Malin turned his head to look at the waiter, "Is killing allowed here?"
"Intentional killing is not allowed," the waiter responded seriously to the two of them.
Then Malin turned back towards Clovis and saw that Madam Mariam had already stood beside her. The tall and strong lady nodded and then made a throat-slitting gesture.
Malin smirked and turned to the youth, "What’s your bet then?"
"You should be worrying about saving your own life, kid."
"You must state your bet before the battle," Malin said, one hand on his hip, the other gripping the hilt of the sword.
The young man looked at the waiter, who nodded, "Sir, for fairness, you should indeed state your bet."
"This is such a hassle, fine, my bet is this sword. Made from the heartwood of an iron tree, it’s a weapon comparable to an alloy sword," the young man finished, raising his longsword.
The waiter raised his hand and then let go his fingers, the handkerchief began to fall.
Malin didn’t move until the handkerchief hit the ground, until the young man swung his greatsword at him. At the exact moment the sword was about to reach him, Malin turned and ’glided’ a short distance to dodge the attack, while his hands were already gripping the hilt, lifting the World Tree greatsword high in the next second. With the force from his spin, he struck forcefully down upon the iron tree heartwood sword.
In the first second, the face of the young man blocking with the sword changed.
In the second second, numerous cracks appeared on the heartwood sword.
In the third second, the young man’s mouth opened, then the World Tree Sapling sword, having broken his heartwood sword, crashed heavily into his face.
The young man’s head shattered like a balloon hit by a pin.
In the fourth second, Malin emotionlessly shook the fragments off the blade and turned to look at the young waiter, "Call someone to clean up."
"You’ve killed someone!" the waiter screamed, looking towards where the judges sat at their long table, only to find that none of them were watching. Only the master of the arena stood there, staring intensely at him.
Eventually, he lowered his head and walked in with his team to start collecting the bodies.
Malin watched as the young man’s servants fled; he didn’t stop them, and he even thought it would be nice if they could bring something back with them.
Challenge requests were once again put up, but after the unfortunate example set by the first challenger, no one chose Malin as their opponent, which made Malin quite depressed. At that time, Fio transformed into a treant, fanning Malin with a fan made of leaves to chase away the stifling atmosphere, while Lorrin became a tree stump for Malin to sit and rest on.
......
"Your boyfriend really does like you a lot," Banai said, looking at Malin sitting down, he couldn’t help but sigh in front of this Bunny Girl.
Despite the severe mutations, this little bunny seems to still retain a complete mind, even judging from her adornments, she is at least a fifth-ring Mage; look at her fingers... completely mutated claws, heaven knows how much effort this girl must have spent to be able to perform spellcasting.
Such an incredible child, naturally should be protected; and this young man named Malin Gaiate seems to very much dote on her. Just now when he was talking to that server, Banai had already written off that prince from the Eastern Kingdom as dead—you should see what the kid has in his hands, two World Tree Saplings, he’s not just a favorite of the Lord of Justice, he’s practically his son.
You’re thinking of getting your hands on this bunny? Do you want me to teach you how to read the word ’death’, you East country bumpkin.
And upon hearing Banai’s words, this Bunny Girl, who seems to be named Clovis, smiled shyly and nodded: "Mr. Malin is the most reliable man, I believe him and never doubt him."
Ah, for some unknown reason, despite Banai having been on a train all day, having not eaten anything and rushing here, despite being so hungry earlier that he could have eaten ten steaks, upon hearing this bunny utter those words, he felt completely full.
The Gnome gentleman sat on the railing, his face cradled in his hands, tears of pain streaming down.
......
Malin sat for a good while; he didn’t receive the flames of vengeance, but instead, a group of Transcendents arrived, led by Jiaxi.
"I knew it was you," he said, eyeing with a look the poor sod bagged up, "That’s a prince you’ve killed there."
"It was an accident, I used World Tree Saplings, as you know, normally, the thing in my hands shouldn’t have been able to kill this unfortunate fellow," Malin pushed the matter onto the prince himself.
First, because he really hadn’t expected this guy to be part of the Evil Faction, and second, because the dead can’t speak, let him try rising out of the bag then.
"Is that so?" Jiaxi glanced at the server who nodded in response.
And standing by his side, Lady Marium smiled and nodded, "As everyone knows, the World Tree’s lethality towards the innocent is near nonexistent, and this person died upon a single hit to the head, so I believe if we find his dark material, there should be a lot, right?"
"That has nothing to do with me, I’m just here to catch someone; that kid’s servants said someone in the arena killed their master." Saying this, Jiaxi laughed somewhat vexedly, "Speaking of catching someone, how am I supposed to catch, if my team really came at you, wouldn’t they not be enough for you to kill?"
"Right, so I have another solution here, look, I just recorded the whole incident with a Demon Crystal for recording, here’s a copy, take it and close the case," Malin finished speaking and tossed a Demon Crystal into Jiaxi’s arms, "He said he wanted to win my girlfriend away from me, I decided to teach him a lesson, but I didn’t expect that even the World Tree Sapling could crack his head open."
Jiaxi watched the recording in the Demon Crystal for a short while, then nodded in agreement with Malin’s statement, "You used a World Tree Sapling weapon, which can prove your intention, so with that said, I’ll be heading back now."
Malin leaned back satisfied, right against the newly grown chair back.
Having connections really does make things easier, it seems that’s exactly the principle at work here.
