Steampunk Era: Mad Abield
Chapter 351 - 239: Embrace (3)

Chapter 351: Chapter 239: Embrace (3)

Malin spent the entire morning dealing with those four tykes’ parents, all of whom seemed to have boundless energy. Whenever Malin got to some particularly exciting parts, Roben’s father would even ramp up his acting.

And I have to say, it worked quite well—at least much more reliable than a certain lady. Every time Malin saw her smack her son’s head, his only thought was, "If you don’t lighten up, Cassie is surely going to die."

Malin really had no idea how Cassie’s elven father fell for that northern lady.

Well, every family has its issues. After finally sending them off, Engma and Cassie said they were leaving, and Logan mentioned something about using a spell to fix his teeth.

"You’re not leaving?" Malin asked, looking at Cohen standing beside him.

"I’m about to go see my cousin, aren’t I? The kid isn’t dumb, he managed to guess what’s up after catching just bits of information, and even bothered you to leave me an intact body." Cohen said as he gestured to a carriage by the roadside, "You’re heading back to the hotel, right?"

"Yeah, let’s go together. I’m planning to hit the arena with my mentor this afternoon to see what the fuss is about and perhaps fight a couple of rounds myself." Malin was quite eager to try since he heard that everyone up there was a skilled fighter, and nobody would want to get up there and make a fool of themselves, so Malin was impatient to test his skills.

After all, constantly walloping all sorts of apprentices had left Malin struggling to grasp just how far he was from the real Transcendent World.

"Can I come with you then?" asked Cohen.

"Sure, but what for?" Malin felt with his skills, running away from a gunfight was possible, but stepping into the ring with those high-level Transcendents? That was practically a death wish.

"I’m going with you to make a fortune, man. When you enter the ring, I’ll bet all I have on you," Cohen replied earnestly.

Malin paused, then smiled, pointing to himself, "You have that much faith in me?"

"Of course, Malin. After fully understanding everything about you, I swear, by any means, you can at least remain unbeaten." Cohen finished his speech and opened the carriage door, "The usual rule, honored guest first."

......

Malin returned to the hotel by carriage and briefed Mr. Bishop from the Church, then waited for his mentor Emmet Selkirk to come back. Logan and his cousin hugged as soon as they saw each other, showing a touching display of brotherly affection. Unfortunately, Malin still spotted the two of them sneakily pinching each other’s waists.

"You little bastard, you were that eager for me to die, huh? Bet you didn’t expect me to come back alive."

"What a pity, I was actually feeling sorry for you. Now it seems I should’ve told Malin to kill you first if anyone."

Are the two of you cousins or what?

Malin scratched his head and then noticed Clovis: "Didn’t spend your day in the Mage Tower?"

As the Bunny Girl holding many patents and production goods, and having a somewhat ambiguous relationship with Malin of Carterburg, she had long become a popular figure in the Mage Tower. She even mentioned that the old Tower Master had seen her and asked her to deliver a keg of dwarven spirits. After confirming that it had an alcohol content of 90%, Malin decided to leave it to Clovis to handle—was this stuff really different from industrial alcohol, and wouldn’t it fry the Dwarves’ brains?

Of course, that was just a thought. The Dwarves’ engineers still had excellent working conditions, and Clovis was very satisfied with the effects of such strong alcohol.

"Wrapped up everything, a few High-Order Mages wanted to keep me for lunch, and discuss some spell models in the afternoon meeting, but the old Tower Master stopped them." Saying this made the Bunny Girl blush, "He said you needed me more."

"Isn’t that the truth," Malin nodded – lately, sleeping without you as my personal pillow, I’ve been feeling the bed’s a bit hard."

The Bunny Girl’s head visibly began to steam.

Malin chuckled and patted her head, "I’m heading to the arena this afternoon, do you want to come along for fun?"

"Sure." Clovis was good about this; she was always up for an invitation or request from Malin, "By the way, where’s Maya?"

"The first-year students have started their final training. The competition begins next Monday, four days from now." Malin said, then turned to Logan, "Logan, can you still enter the competition?"

"Can’t, I’ve crossed the line." Logan said with a grimace, "My mentor said I’m in the right form to compete, but if I got seriously injured and couldn’t sustain the effects of the Healing Spells, there’s a good chance I might die."

"Then you better not compete. Are you coming with your brother this afternoon?" Malin offered an olive branch with the label ’peace over war, profit for all.’

"Please make sure to bring me along no matter what!" Logan didn’t need the explicit mention of ’making money;’ his instincts prompted his response.

So Malin continued to wait for Mentor Emmet Selkirk, who finally arrived at the hotel as expected—dressed in his Elvis outfit with fringe, and iconic large sunglasses on his face, "Sorry, got held up on the road, I’m back now."

"Not too late, we just got lunch ready. Everyone’s at the arena training, so it’s just the few of us eating. Will that suffice?" Malin said as he came out of the kitchen with a bowl of meat soup atop rice.
