Chapter 332: Section 229: Trading Is Always Pleasant (Part 3)
Engma Roben, beneath the shade of trees just outside the Underground City exit, had just applied a mosquito repellent spell to himself and was now smoking alone.
His friends had just gone to a hotel, all seemingly celebrating their luck today, as the traps that were originally only one-third completed were unexpectedly finished in their entirety due to today’s mishap.
It was a very joyous occasion, so Cohen and the others decided to go and have a good drink, incidentally mourning the last night of some poor sod in silence.
Calling it a revelry might not be an exaggeration.
Think about it, their opponent was about to drop dead any moment, and after kicking out the biggest rival of the Odero family, they could legitimately become suitors.
At this thought, Engma took a puff of his cigarette. The smoke followed his respiratory system into his lungs, circled around inside, and then left through his nostrils with a trace of regret.
Due to the morning’s incident, the Underground City was now somewhat desolate, which was beneficial for their operation.
Look, even Fate has made its choice, the odds of winning are so great that it’s hard to see how they could lose. A wonderful life starts tomorrow, right?
Sighing at this point, he glanced at the street he had come down, Engma was a bit anxious because he was waiting for a car.
Waiting for a car carrying an old lady.
......
Holding her own little doll, Linz looked out the window. The carriage belonging to the Action Department was moving, and the young lady from the Mowish family (doubtful) had been attracted by the motorcycle she saw this morning—it was such a beautiful mechanical creation, it’s just too conspicuous, unsuitable for the role she was to play.
Today she was to meet someone, a young lad who had just joined the trade less than a year ago. Lady Nuo insisted on stuffing an Apprentice into Linz’s hands after she returned to the National Security Action Department.
Quite a troublesome kid, although he was cute, she always felt that he never really saw the Lady Linz in front of him as a woman in the practical sense.
Ah, Lady Linz, there’s a problem with the arrangement of this Spell Formation.
Ah, Lady Linz, what is our work for today?
...Damn, are all the men in this massive National Security Action Department heartless tools and blind? Can’t they see such a beautiful girl?
Completely oblivious to the age issue, Linz leaned against the carriage window, and the woman who viewed herself as a young girl looked out to see her Apprentice.
Drawing on the cigarette butt like an idiot, having picked up such bad habits by the age of seventeen, utterly intolerable!
The carriage stopped in front of him, and Linz looked down from on high at her Apprentice, frowning: "Throw away the trash in your mouth."
"Uh, sorry, Lady Linz." The young man dispensed with his cigarette butt and climbed into the carriage.
"How’s your little game of house going?" Linz eyed the Apprentice before her. When she heard this kid talk a few days ago about a bunch of guys joining forces to take Malin’s life, her first reaction was whether these kids were tired of living—Malin could squish you with just a finger because, before that, Linz had never seen a lamppost make a noise like breaking the sound barrier in the hands of a child shorter than her.
"Great, everything is set up, they’re probably all in the Thanan-owned hotel in the Southern District by now, waiting for the net to be drawn." The Apprentice was eager.
"Wait a bit longer." Linz said, having to admit that, like her, he couldn’t make any effective judgement on the situation, which was probably the difference between action agents like them and thinkers like the department heads.
"Wait a bit longer. If that kid Malin gets buried in the Underground City, believe me, I’d turn state’s evidence even if it meant betraying the Action Department. I don’t want to die at the hands of those crazy girls," the lad named Engma said.
Linz was sure this kid would do it, because compared to being stabbed to death by Malin’s girls at a street corner, becoming a cooperating witness could ensure he stayed alive.
Yet Linz still didn’t want to suggest the kid do it because: "You can try, and then you’ll see how the Action Department deals with traitors."
"I am helping the Action Department, Lady Linz!"
Seeing the kid bristle, the lady laughed and kicked at Engma’s shoes: "Alright, just a joke. Our head has made a decision, just follow the script, and we’ll ensure your safety afterwards, no matter what."
"Really?" The teen was still a bit apprehensive.
So Linz took out the certification the head had written for the kid and tossed it into his lap: "Here, take this. Whether you end up in court or facing some girl’s blade, you’ll have a chance to use it to save yourself, even those girls, after seeing it, would only think about how to stab the head with a knife."
Engma skeptically read over the identity certification letter, verifying the handwriting, before nodding contentedly: "Well, to be honest, I’m really nervous about how things have gone so far. They don’t know what kind of person Malin is, but I do. I’m even thinking, with just these fishing tools, can we really kill him?"
"Even the greatest hero can die from poisoned wine, just as the greatest Emperor can fall to an assassin’s blade," Linz finished, glancing at the lad.
"But the things he’s been through... to tell you the truth, if it were me committing any terrible act, my grave would probably be as tall as me by now, just like the Zhao kid said." With that, the lad from the Roben family let out a long sigh: "These past two days, I can’t sleep, you know how scared I am? I’ve just been in the business for a year, I’m afraid you all won’t acknowledge me afterwards and throw me out to take the fall, I’ve seen too much of this in Noble circles."
