Chapter 233: One hundred and seventy-four: Another You (3)
"Come to think of it, I feel like the killer is getting crazier by the day," Camilla, riding on horseback, looked at the report in her hand, "This week alone he has already killed four victims, two of which looked completely like accidents."
"Indeed, there were no factors suggesting otherwise, but some Sequences do have such abilities, so we can only speculate as such. As for Lady Aurelia Carton, a Tier Three Illusionist of the Pretender Sequence, I can’t imagine how she died in an alley. Was it because she was too close to home and let her guard down?" Colin, also on horseback and frowning next to her, said, "It’s really creepy, my old friend, can you imagine, an illusionist dying at the end of a firearm’s barrel."
"Up until today, I wouldn’t have believed it, but after all, she was just an illusionist. If it were you or me, having our heads pierced by a bullet, we’d stand a chance to survive — just a shot to heal the fatal wound," said Camilla, then turning her head to look at the intersection on the other side, "Hey, isn’t that Malin and his girlfriends?"
"Ah, what could they be doing here?" Colin asked curiously as he rode his horse up behind the youngsters, "Hi, Malin, and ladies, what are you guys up to?"
"We’ve got business, heading to City Hall," Malin gave such an answer.
"Well, busy man, take care on your way, the city isn’t all that peaceful lately," Colin nodded as he prepared to ride off.
"By the way, Colin, where are you and Mr. Camilla headed to?" At that moment, Malin turned into Mr. Curiosity, and Colin felt there was nothing to hide in response to his question, "We’re off to see Mr. Mischael, his family has become a high-risk one, we’ve been thinking whether to provide Mr. Mischael and his sister with some protective force."
"...That’s a good idea, we’re heading off," Malin smiled and nodded, then turned and left with his girls.
"Truly a busy man," Camilla remarked as she rode up.
"A busy man who makes a hundred thousand a month, really no comparison," Colin smiled and shook his head, "But truth be told, their canned food is indeed quite delicious."
"I find it more convenient, the Punisher troops from the Church of Justice have already started ordering," Camilla said while continuing on with her old friend, "Speaking of which, seeing Malin just now reminds me of something, the kid claimed he suspected Mr. Mischael, why would he think that?"
"A kid with dreams of being a great detective, I think it’s quite normal. Mischael’s leg is still injured, I don’t think he’s the killer. What kind of killer with a limp can climb up the Bell Tower, commit a murder, and then escape before the police arrive?" Colin said mockingly to his old friend.
"Clearly, Mr. Mischael can’t fly," Camilla said with a laugh, then her smile faded, "Alright, we’re almost there, old friend, should we offer some condolences?"
"I think it’s fine, after all, his leg’s not healed yet," Colin nodded, "By the way, his sister’s name is Shela, a very cute girl, I heard she’s in love."
"Ah, I smell the sourness of love..." Mr. Camilla said, turning to glance at Colin, "Just like you, buddy."
"Heh," Colin rolled his eyes in response.
......
"They don’t suspect Mr. Mischael," Faye whispered to Malin.
To which Malin was hardly surprised, "Given Mr. Mischael’s current condition, he indeed doesn’t seem like a killer, more like a victim readying himself. I can’t confirm whether his Sequence and Tier are genuine. I remember Colin once said he was only Tier Eight, but I can’t believe he’s just Tier Eight. If the killer is someone else, why not kill him? If the killer is himself, then he must be very strong."
It was a complete paradox.
"We can’t confirm the killer’s identity with our current suspicions; if we can determine that the killer is repeating the death sequence of the Mischael family in a vengeful manner, then he might be suspected of mimicking the murders, possibly even as a sacrifice to please the Evil God," Malin explained to Faye, "But if we’re to pass judgment, then with the evidence we have now, we can’t prove Mr. Mischael guilty."
"...If only I were Holmes," Faye sighed deeply.
Malin laughed and ruffled Faye’s hair, "Too bad there’s no such person in this world. Since this killer dares to murder in such a way, he must have his trump card, so we must be cautious, even more cautious. If we can’t ensure safety when obtaining evidence, we’d rather inform the officers or the likes of Colin. Safety first, always. We lack the strength to confront a killer who is likely very powerful."
"I understand, Malin. I won’t disregard everyone’s safety," Faye nodded vigorously.
This assurance finally gave Malin some peace of mind, "Then our current priority is still to head to City Hall. We must confirm if each death can be matched with an accident. If we can verify this, we’ll tell the officers directly. Sometimes dodging risks is simpler than resorting to abandoning others when pushed to the wall."
