Chapter 191: Chapter 142: Winter Night (II)_2
"Lovely Miss! May I know your name?" he came before Malin, bending down to ask.
The girls tilted their heads in unison.
Malin propped her chin with one hand, murderous intent surging in her heart.
Meanwhile, Secretary Karen smiled and patted the young man’s shoulder, "Sir, the gentleman sitting in front of you is Mr. Malin from the House of Gaiate."
Another young man grabbed his friend’s arm and ran.
"Malin, you should tidy up your hair," Faye whispered in Malin’s ear.
"Well, after I’m done here, I’ll find a barbershop." Malin twirled a lock of her long hair with her finger, nodding somewhat absentmindedly.
At this moment, the secretary made a welcoming gesture, "The president is inside, please come upstairs."
"Thank you." Malin stood up, leading the girls upstairs.
The white-bearded old man sat behind the long table, as before, his hands covering the lower half of his face.
The secretary led Malin and the others into the office. The old man with thick black-rimmed glasses finally lowered his hands, smiled at Malin, and then, as last time, gestured his secretary to get drinks from the liquor cabinet, "Mr. Yang Wenli..." "Now everyone knows my real name. Please just call me Malin," Malin said with a smile.
The old man nodded with a smile, "Well then, Mr. Malin Gaiate, welcome to the National Publishing House. I have reviewed your new manuscript and there’s no issue at all."
"What would you all like to drink?"
"The usual, coffee, with two cubes of sugar," Faye still liked her coffee sweetened.
"Sweet milk," Maya still favored her sweet milk.
"Apple juice," Lillim said with a smile.
"Carrot juice," Clovis was curious about everything in the room.
"Brandy, with some black tea," Jessica, being among the older folk, made a different request.
This request caused the president to look at Malin, "And you, Malin, do you still need black tea with brandy?"
"Of course, I’m an adult now." Malin’s response was natural; during the last visit, she hadn’t been able to order a certain Admiral’s specialty drink that was rather selective which she certainly intended to indulge in this time.
"Karen, please prepare it for Mr. Malin."
"Of course, President."
Miss Karen busied herself at the liquor cabinet and then carried the drinks over on a wooden tray – first came the black tea with brandy and the tea with added brandy, followed by sweet milk and coffee, and then two glasses of apple juice: "Sorry, we don’t have carrot juice here, I will definitely have it ready for you next time."
Clovis took the apple juice. Although there was no carrot juice, such an explanation left the Bunny Girl very satisfied.
"Speaking of which, I thought you wouldn’t write novels anymore, considering your life seems far more exciting than fiction," the old publisher said with a smile.
"Although life is indeed more exciting than fiction, my dream is still to become a big author who can live a comfortable life on royalties alone," Malin explained with a smile, "Of course, what’s more important is that I enjoy writing, because creating a world with words is the best job I can imagine."
"Thank you for describing writing as something so noble. I’ve learned from those authors that for them, writing is just a means to make a living, a bothersome task," the old man observed, looking at Malin, "You are among the few I’ve seen who take pleasure in their work."
"To each their own, President," Malin smiled.
"President, the new author, Luca, is here," another secretary entered.
"Let her in. Oh, and you might want to meet her; she’s a charming girl from the Fox Clan," said the old man with a smile to Malin, "By the way, would you like to take a look at her novel? I really didn’t expect such a darling girl to write such passionate romance novels, and what’s more, the heroine prefers boys younger than herself. Honestly, it’s a little controversial, but considering our society is open and tolerant, I didn’t ban her book."
Malin took a sip of her tea, intrigued – a Fox Clan girl, a romance novel, a younger male lead... wait a minute?
Hearing the sound of the door being opened, hearing those somewhat familiar footsteps, Malin turned his head, "Matilda?"
The big-eared fox that had just walked in widened her eyes, the secretary looked utterly puzzled, while the old man smiled, "Mr. Malin, do you know each other?"
"Yes, we do," Malin nodded.
Matilda stood behind Malin and, noticing Blink, she reached out to poke Blink’s head, but the little creature flickered to the front of Malin’s chest.
"Alive?"
"Beep—!"
Then Malin handed Blink over to Matilda, and the big-eared fox happily held it, "It’s so cute, is this the gift that the War Maniac gave you?"
"This is a living life, not a gift," Malin said with a smile, "By the way, I hear you’ve also started writing novels?"
"Yes, with the encouragement of the sisters in the Church, I’ve also begun writing. Writing in between battles, it enhances my writing inspiration," the big-eared fox explained, causing Malin to chuckle—this girl dares to call someone else a War Maniac.
"Miss Lukka," the old man said, looking somewhat embarrassed at this point.
"Ah, Mr. President, is there something you need?" Matilda asked, lifting her head as Blink lay resignedly in her arms.
"As a newcomer, you’ve done well, but I still have a piece of advice." The old man said this, looking at Malin with a bit of sympathy.
"What advice, please tell me," Matilda’s big eyes were full of anticipation.
"When will your protagonist grow up? You know, male readers have a sense of identification when reading novels," the old man said thoughtfully.
Upon hearing this, Matilda turned to look at Malin.
Malin and the girls by his side looked towards Matilda.
The old man took a deep breath, "Alright, today’s meeting is over. The National Publishing House never keeps authors for a working meal, let’s disband."
The old man was intent on sending everyone away, and since Malin and the others couldn’t very well insist on staying, they left the National Publishing House. The girls formed a group to chat while Malin entertained Blink, the little guy delightfully munching on fruit while wearing the cute clothes Faye had made for her.
Speaking of which, the life he had pursued from the beginning was not the life he was living now.
However, that wonderful life could not appear in his life; this world did not support such a beautiful and peaceful existence.
Oh, what a headache.
While teasing Blink, Malin noticed the girls approaching and also noticed Matilda, "What do you say?"
"We’ve decided to go with you to see that little Brice boy," Matilda stated, standing next to Faye.
Malin spread his hands, "Alright, let’s go together."
......
Shelton Brice of the House of Brice was sitting in a specially-made chair of steel, facing the giant.
As one of the heirs to the Duke of Brice, Shelton had the height and strength a giant should have, but he looked somewhat worn out lately.
The death of his sister was the biggest reason. Sara was a good sister. From the time Shelton was very young, she had been responsible for looking after him—closer to him than his mother and father who were often away at battles. Unfortunately, she had died.
His father arranged for her to be buried with the human she loved, and for Shelton, this was a welcome outcome. That his sister loved that human man was no secret among their generation, and before that, he feared his sister might miss this only chance. Fortunately, the existence of the boy named Malin had changed their father’s mind in the end.
So, contacting Malin today, he wanted to gain rapport with him and then establish a friendship.
After all, they were all giants; becoming friends was only natural.
